For those of us obsessed with television dramas there is a strong desire to be closer to our beloved characters. We yearn to be transported to the time and location of the shows we watch on a weekly basis. The cookbook industry has devised a plan to make obsessed fans feel like they too are living in Bon Temps, the 1960's, and even the late Middle Ages. Sadly, Sookie or Don Draper won’t be serving us drinks, and no one has invented a time machine yet. Thanks to these three cookbooks, fans and those who love to cook, can enjoy authentic recipes from the Bayou-set True Blood, Medieval dishes served in Game of Thrones’ Westeros, or the cocktails drank in Mad Men’s 1960's haunts. All the featured recipes are a great addition to a viewing party with friends or a creative way to mix up a dinner party.
Poor Jamie Oliver.
He's just a boy, standing in front of a portly nation, asking it to love him eat better.
And how has America thanked him? By deeming his latest cookbook one of the least healthy tombs of the year. Sort of.
It was announced yesterday that the Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine released it's annual list of the country's worst cookbooks and Oliver's Meals in Minutes was at the top. The group specifically criticized the nutrition-conscious chef's recipe for a Meatball Sandwich, as it contains "more fat than a Big Mac and more than double the calories, cholesterol, sodium and saturated fat." The offending sandwich calls for ground beef, pancetta, Jarlsberg cheese and ciabatta loaves.
Yeah, but what happens after that? Yes, women do like men who can cook. I’d rather they messed up their kitchen than mine! However, this book: Have Her Over for Dinner (A gentleman’s Guide to Classic, Simple Meals), is basically an instruction book, on not only how to cook, but what will excite, please, and most probably seduce. Even though he states: “I didn’t create this book to show you how to “win” the girl of your dreams or prepare foods to ensure a “hookup”. Who are we kidding here? Matt Moore, the cookbook’s writer hails from Tennessee, is a “performing country music singer/songwriter.” So why isn’t he married?
