COUNCIL OF FASHION DESIGNERS OF AMERICA
According to the CFDA, the "Americans in Paris” initiative was created as a global showcase for emerging American designers. As Paris Fashion Week attracts a wide array of international retailers, the showroom will provide invaluable global exposure for the designers as well as the sales, marketing, and media support necessary to expand their respective businesses." This spring Tommy Hilfiger and CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund collaborate with ten lucky American designers to design their own versions of the Tommy Classic Trench Coat. “My own experience at the beginning of my career inspired my commitment to mentor young designers,” Hilfiger comments in a release. “I know firsthand how difficult it can be to enter the fashion industry and I believe designers benefit from supporting and inspiring one another.” Not only are these trenches gorgeous and unique, three of each are for sale worldwide--talk about exclusive--and we foresee our favorite styles trickling down into our wardrobes in the near future!
A change to come!
At least that is what the board was thinking yesterday morning when they changed the bylaws of the CFDA/Council of Fashion Designers of America.
Diane Von Furstenberg, who has served as president for two-two year terms, has been re-elected to serve another term until December 31, 2012.
The two year term rule was enforced after former president, Stan Herman, served as president for 15 years - far too long. However, Diane's term-expansion was highly supported by CFDA board members who believe Diane's leadership has helped expand the organization's membership.
Calling all designers, buyers, merchandisers, public relations assistants, fashion interns and lovers of fashion - the Council of Fashion Designers of America wants you to invade the intersection of 39th Street between Seventh and Eighth Avenues in New York this evening. At 5:30 p.m. today, the final scene of a public service announcement for Fashion’s Night Out is being filmed on location, and is hoping to drum up as many industry people as possible. Passersby who come across a manifestation of stylish people should note - it's all in the name of a good cause. Don't even attempt to be fashionably late because the first 200 on the set will take home a 'Fashion's Night Out' T-shirt. The commercials will run on television, in taxis and online in the run-up to the citywide shopping event on Sept.10, which is organized by Vogue, NYC & Company, the CFDA and the City of New York in hopes of getting people back into stores and shopping!
Last night, the CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) nominees for 2009 were announced. The ceremony will be held at Alice Tully Hall on June 15th where the First Lady is being honored with a Board of Directors’ Special Tribute.
Who will it be ladies and gents? Marc Jacobs, Rodarte or Narciso for Womenswear Designer of the Year? Which men stood out best in their wares: Calvin Klein’s sleek designs or Band of Outsiders updated funk collection? We have our faves in both.
See the complete list of nominees below and enjoy Marc’s collections! We’ll keep you updated on the winners.
New York’s fashion week is getting a whole new makeover. Staring in 2010, the twice annual event will be held at the Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park, located at the southwest corner of the Lincoln Center. Fashion Week has been held at Bryant Park since 1993 and is moving for more space. Apparently New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg has been working with the Council of Fashion Designers of America and IMG Fashion for over two years now to find the shows a new home. Fashion Week takes about ten days and has outgrown the six acre Bryant Park. Even though the venue is changing, the shows will still be held in tents and the Lincoln Center location just gives it more class. [nytimes]
