SCENETRACKER Anne Marsen
Interview with Girl Walk's Anne Marsen

You know the feeling. The one - right after your first kiss, or after landing the dream job, that makes you feel like you could burst out in professional dance moves to your own theme song, walking home down a busy city block. You never do it, because our inhibitions quell that burst of complete happiness out of fear of what some stranger might think, but imagine having the cahonas to do it. Enter Girl Walk// All Day- an epic music video (movie length), that follows three dancers as they explore NYC. After the second screening of Girl Walk, Joonbug was able to snag Anne Marsen (who plays The Girl) for a Skype chat.

You all might remember Modern Family's Mitchell breaking it down for Cam during a flash mob...so if you don't understand the concept check out the video below. Check out this webpage to take dance classes and participate in future flash mobs!

Lexicon...

'Champagne Showers' -LMFAO f/ Natalia Kills

What was once the famed East Side den, Branch, is now Lexicon. Fellow Joonbugsters may remember our older siblings speaking of it on Sunday mornings over coffee, macaroons and even raspier voices. Happily, we can do the same for the next generation. And when I came here (as a last resort, mind you) it was well worth it. Totally beat the lines at Hudson Terrace, and gave the night that extra, 'UMPH!'.

The party that Lexicon provides is similar to what Snooki would like from her one Jersey Shore fav, Karma. Basically- gonna fist pump till my arm falls off!

SHM's Sebastien Ingrosso at Webster Hall this Saturday!

Its members may be newly collaborated with each other (they just released their first single "One" on May 26 this past year), but Swedish House Mafia's Sebastian Ingrosso, Steve Angello, and Axwell are internationally known on the house DJ circuit. The group will not be all together at Webster together this Saturday, but New Yorkers are welcome to rage to DJ sets by internationally famed Sebastian Ingrosso, who produced MGMT's "Kids." He has also collaborated with house 'veterans' (so to speak) like Royksopp, David Guetta, Felix, and Mike Snow, so you know this party is going to be one you don't want to miss. You can grab tickets in advance for just $40 - no drink specials, just abnormally great beats to pound the thought of Valentine's Day out of your head. Perfect.

Scissor Sisters and Lauren Flax Spin in Space Tonight

Amazing DJ sets and dancing in an enormous space that feels as though you've jumped straight out of a rocketship and settled in gravity-less land? Without a space suit, much less? Sounds trippy and unreal, which is what this event will likely turn out to be. The Fader is hosting tonight's One Step Beyond party in The Rose Center of the American Museum of Natural History, featuring the garage-electro Scissor Sisters and distinguished remixer Lauren Flax and the Activaire DJs. The whole party-in-a-museum-without-drinks thing may turn some people off, but be assured, partying in the dark beneath a bunch of replicate planets to great house is bound to be more fun than you think...and definitely more fun than staring at your reflection in your mug at a dreary bar. Tickets are only $25 - you can buy them in advance here.

Where West Philly meets Romania

Have you ever found yourself in the mood to dance to Balkan music played live by a 15-piece band at a delightfully sweaty South Street bar? Next time the urge hits on the second Thursday of the month, Tritone has you hooked up.

This diverse bar/lounge/music venue features some of the most quirky and unusual events in the city, including the aforementioned West Philadelphia Orchestra Balkan Dance Party. While much of the music and dancing is rooted in Eastern European tradition, all are welcome and encouraged to groove to the beat of instruments that most of us have probably never even heard of.

3 Years of Party Every Night at The Barbary

If you haven't heard of The Barbary in Fishtown, you need to hit the streets.

Their website consists of a one page calendar and their venue is on a block undergoing heavy construction, so it's safe to say that The Barbary has been vibrant for 3 years off its street credentials. Word of mouth in these parts is that you better be ready to sweat!

With a dance party almost every night, local DJs spin weekly sets of British Pop, Reggae, Heavy Metal, 80s, House, or Hip Hop. Their signature parties are ACD WSH every Thursday for 80s lovers, TigerBeats on Monday's for the Indie crowd, and the BOUNCE featuring club anthems on the first Friday of every month. Expect to share the dance floor with 21 and up skateboarders and hipsters who are vibing hard off the tunes. The few nights each month without a dance party keep up the energy with Comedy Dreamz and Karaoke Night which both ultimately lead to...you guessed it...a dance party.
