Rollingstone Magazine : the Playlist Issue

I've always wondered what famous artists do listen at home, or while driving their Escalade. You probably know that a lot of people who work on TV don't actually watch it at home. I was also curious to see if my favorite artists shared my tastes. I was astonished to see that Chris Martin from Coldplay could actually be able to listen some good sh!t (hate Coldplay).

You have here fifty different artists ready to share their Top 10 songs on one theme they care about. Wanna know what MGTM's 10 best psychedelic songs are ? Are you curious to see what king of blues does Mick Jagger listen at home ? I find that pretty entertaining.

GLAM DAMN IT David Bowie in Labyrinth
Halloween Gender-Bender: Labyrinth David Bowie

October 1st already? It’s about that time to get ready for the one night of the year we can get away with obnoxiously imitating our favorite people.

Sometimes Halloween can get frustrating. I know I’m tired of seeing the same options for women year after year. Seriously, there are only so many years we can be a nurse, a witch, or a random fairy tale character.

This year let’s be Jareth the Goblin King, also known as: Labyrinth David Bowie. Many of us may not even have to travel further than our own bedroom for the transformation.

Peter Gabriel Releases "Scratch My Back"

Peter Gabriel has long been a monster in the music biz, immortalizing himself with hits like "Solsbury Hill," "Sledgehammer," and "In Your Eyes". It's the former Genesis lead singer's place in the classic rock canon that makes his most recent album so surprising: a cover album. And among the classic rock hits he reinvents (Bowie, The Kinks, Paul Simon, Lou Reed, Neil Young), Gabriel also pays homage to the present indie scene. The list includes Bon Iver, Regina Spektor, The Magnetic Fields, and Arcade Fire. There's also some Radiohead in there, too - something I never thought I'd hear from Mr. Gabriel.

Interview: DJs Claudine DeSola and Micprobes Talk Music and Fashion

After 10 years of booking the hottest DJs for the hundreds of parties and events she has planned, Claudine DeSola's passion for music has manifested in an extraordinary way. We are lucky enough to host Claudine DeSola's first DJ Performance at Joonbug's Fashion Week Gala, this Saturday, February 13th. There, she will present her fashion inspired playlist, which she comprised by asking top designers such as YEOHLEE and Adam Lippes, what music sparks their creativity when designing their collection. Claudine's exclusive 30 minute set called "Inspiration Played" will appear on www.caravangirl.com and www.joonbug.com after its premiere at Joonbug's Fashion Week Party.

Making A Show Out Of of Montreal

In my efforts to report on the latest touring schedules for the New Year, it has come to my attention that labeling the encompassing stigma surrounding the band of Montreal as “art-rock” is as much an understatement as labeling Jersey Shore as an intellectual stimulating program full of wit and merit (I know, two Jersey Shore slams in one week is a little trite, but I just hate that show so much. Go “pump that fist” right into your stupid f’n faces!). Where musical visionaries like David Bowie and Roxy Music brought a much needed visual element to a lack-luster rock environ, the live music performances of of Montreal have thoroughly exemplified the gonzo-zen statement uttered by the late Hunter S. Thompson:

Tijuana Panthers
Genre: "Barbershop Surfpop"
Website: www.myspace.com/tijuanapanthers

"Our music isn't that serious. All of the bands I looked up to growing up weren't serious, either. They would have serious lyrics and silly music or serious music and silly lyrics. Music should be about having a good time."

-Phil Shaheen, Tijuana Panthers

California is the home of sunny weather, Hollywood phonies, celebrity politicians, and breast implants numbering two for every one female. However, every one of these characteristics can be transplanted to any region of the country willing to lower its standards. There is one Golden State feature that is strictly held as a California staple, no matter how justified one feels toward redefining the location-identifying label. That is the sweet, echo-y sounds of surf rock.

Jamming the Hell out of Terminal 5

The walk from the subway station to Terminal 5 left me with a feeling of defensive worry as the nearly empty streets brought up memories of warnings laid upon me by my small-town family members about the “dangers” of the big city. As I approached the remodeled factory style venue that would be my temporary occupancy for the evening, shady characters begged me for extra tickets. Ignoring their pleas for an opportunity to resell such a precious entry permittance as a ticket for the night’s show, I hustled through the chilly air knowing there was nothing that would keep me from attending the show for the night. Thoughts of possible muggings left my mind as I envisioned images of a stage occupied by Junior Boys, RJD2, and Lotus.
