DAVID LETTERMAN
Coldplay appeared on Late Night with David Letterman earlier this week to perform their new single, "Paradise." Typical to their performances, Chris Martin and company executed the track perfectly, preserving the catchy sense of weightlessness that makes the song so memorable.
"Paradise" will be featured on the quartet's upcoming full-length Mylo Xyloto, which is slated to hit stores on October 24th. Judging by this track, as well as previously released singles like "Major Minus," the consistently creative Coldplay might just have another Grammy-winning gem of an album on their hands.
You can check out the band's performance of "Paradise" below. Are you excited for new Coldplay tunes?
Let's face it, comedy is a hard business. Even the Jerry Seinfelds and Jon Stewarts of the world have their share of hecklers. Hell, Louis C.K. made a career out of telling people how much his life sucks. So it's a wonder that there are any newcomers who want to join the club. Lucky for us, New York has always been the epicenter of standup, and after all the abuse, an exciting new crop of comics have arrived on the scene. So if you can't score the Chris Rock tickets, rest easy. These are New York's up and comers:
After the disaster that was Drake’s attempt at a free concert last week at South Street Seaport, Jay-Z and Eminem made up for it all. The two performed on the roof of the Ed Sullivan Theater in a surprise/secret show leaving fans scrambling in the streets. The concert promoted Eminem and Jay-Z’s upcoming concerts and Eminem’s new album, Recovery. Parts of their performance will air on Friday on Late Show with David Letterman. Check out the video below!
Somewhere lies a contract that entitles Jennifer Connelly to don Balenciaga forever.
And I am entirely too jealous.
Connelly appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman on January 11th wearing pieces from the Spring 2010 bevy, looking completely ferocious.
Best of all, I bet against all odds that she barely had to put in much effort.
In case you haven't heard by now (you are on the internet, after all) or somehow managed to miss reading the headline of this post, NBC has announced plans to push the "Tonight Show" with Conan O'Brien back 30 minutes. Conan responded by stating he would not host the franchise if moved to the 12:05 spot. Speculations about Conan's future at NBC, including his own, have been widely debated since. According to many, NBC's recent prime time ratings slump prompted this most recent move. The 11:35 spot would be filled by a program hosted by recently departed "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno, whose recent prime time venture was cancelled after less than 6 months. And then things start to get interesting.
New York City and followers of the indie-music scene are mourning the tragic death of drummer Gerhardt “Jerry” Fuchs, who died on Sunday from a five-story fall down an elevator shaft in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. While riding in a manual freight elevator during a benefit party, the elevator got stuck between the fourth and fifth floors. A passenger riding with Fuchs had managed to jump to the fourth floor, but on one of Fuchs’ attempts to jump to the fifth floor, his clothing caught on something in the passageway and he fell to the bottom of the elevator shaft.
Alex Frankel, Fuchs’ roommate and singer of the band Holy Ghost!, of which Fuchs was the drummer, arrived at the party shortly before 1AM to find the distressing news that someone had fallen down the elevator shaft.
In support of their upcoming album, Raditude, due to hit stores on November 3, the nerd-rock band Weezer will be touring in select cities this fall. With sold out shows in Los Angeles, New York, and a two night gig playing “The Late Show with David Letterman” on October 29 and 30, this tour will be expected to be a special treat for diehard fans of the group.
The new album explores realms that, until now, were previously undreamt of when considering contributions to a Weezer album. Teen hyper-pop producers Dr. Luke and Butch Walker (who worked with Kelly Clarkson and Avril Lavigne, respectively) contributed to some of the sounds on the record as well as hip-hop and R&B super-producer Jermaine Dupri. Rapper Lil’ Wayne also performs a cameo appearance on the track “Can’t Stop Partying.” No word is in yet if Wayne, who is currently facing gun-related criminal charges in New York, will be joining the tour.
A guest on The Late Show last week, Alec Baldwin had a response ready when David Letterman asked him if he had any plans to expand his family. The 30 Rock star joked* that he was “thinking about getting a Filipino mail-order bride at this point... or a Russian one.” The studio audience thought this was funny.^ So did David Letterman. Not so much Philippine senator Ramon Revilla.
Blasting Baldwin for the “arrogant” remark, Revilla said that,
John Mayer is one present short this Christmas; girlfriend Jennifer Aniston gave her sole wardrobe item from her racy GQ cover shoot to Late Show host David Letterman last night. Aniston appeared to promote upcoming film Marley and Me and brought out a wrapped box when talk turned to her recent GQ cover in which she appears nude, wearing a strategically placed Brooks Brothers tie. Dave was thrilled and immediately threw off his tie so he could wear Aniston’s. I guess John Mayer won’t be missing a little tie when he can have Jennifer under the tree all for himself.
