DENIM
It's true. We're denim fanatics. If our 30+ pair collection of every color, style, and brand is any indication, we may even be denim addicts. So when we heard Isaay.com was having a 40% off sale on one of our favorite brands, 7 For All Mankind, we had to share with our loyal readers (and denim addicts).
The sale is gone tomorrow, Thursday, February 2nd, so get over there now for the best sizes and selection and enter code: denim40.
Happy Shopping!
You like wearing your wedged sandals with flared jeans. But there is one problem --so does everyone else! Looking like a clone is not a good look. So how do work wedges with pants for a more original look?
Cropped, slouch fit, chino pants, (such as the one's worn by Reese Witherspoon, pictured left) make a great summer alternative to denim. J Brands Inez cropped chino, when worn with a turn up, works perfectly with a wedged shoe. To look even more on trend, wear, ‘Sun faded pomegranate’ -a bubblegum shade of pink. For those who cannot stay away from denim, boyfriend fit jeans, in non-distressed shades work well. Once again, ensure to wear with a turn up, to expose a sexy glimpse of ankle.
Reading "Soul of a Lion" by author Barbara Bennett not only takes one to unknown places such as Namibia, Africa, but also gets the fashion wheels a-turning. Marieta, one of the characters in the book, is hailed for her toughness as she raises her children , both human and animal alike. Marieta von der Merwe, a real life mother to nature got us thinking, what would we wear in such a place? From the February 2011 issue of Vogue to Rodarte's latest spring collection the possibilities are endless. But if you were going to work at the Harnas Wildlife Reservation, I’m not so sure you want to feed a lion or vervet monkey in such high fashion.
Despite its name, there is nothing quiet or understated about Philly’s sexiest new club/lounge, Whisper. Located in the former Denim space in the Rittenhouse Square Neighborhood, this welcome addition to the city’s late night scene leaves little to be desired, even for the most discerning nightlife aficionados.
Chris Nork (formerly of Denim) manages the new space, which has been entirely re-concepted and was originally unveiled in October. Upon arriving at the discreet entrance (or not so discreet entrance, depending how large the crowd waiting to get in), partiers must first fill out a membership form before being allowed entry; the membership itself is free, although nightly cover can be steep. After a quick elevator ride, guests step into the club itself, where they’ll find deep eggplant walls, antique mirrors, a massive overhead chandelier, a wall of LED panels, and a state-of-the art sound and lighting system that rivals any on the East Coast. With a 400 square foot dance floor, 6 bars, 3 lounge areas, a private room called “Shhh”, and a frosted glass dance floor above the entrance to the men’s room, Whisper truly sets a new precedent in Philly nightclub design, aesthetic, and quality.
Flannel shirts, denim jackets, and puffer vests, oh my! As the weather transitions from maxi dress and jeweled sandals to wool coat with over-the-knee boots, we need to adjust our wardrobes accordingly. Classic American is back in a big way, and here are some ways to honor the U.S. of A with your look and stay within your budget:
1. Fur-trimmed hoodie puffer vest from Gap – Ah, the classic American styles of the Gap. A perfect place to go for standard wardrobe staples and with the weather rapidly starting to dip, a nice fur-trim vest is just what the doctor ordered.
O'neal Mcknight is no stranger to Joonbug parties. But this Saturday, Mcknight isn't just appearing as a performer - he's also making his debut on Joonbug's designer committee at our Fashion Week Gala event at Capitale. ReWash Jeans, his new denim label with a vintage twist, is reinventing the classics with a modern rock flair. Jessica Gomes, Kelly Killoren Bensimon, Angela Martini, and Jaimie Hilfiger have all been spotted sporting the coveted new "jeans of the future," and we're sure that many more are soon to join in. In addition to promoting ReWash Jeans, Mcknight has been busy in the studio recording with Kid Cudi, Mr. Bently, and more! Make sure to check out his hot new tracks "Something Bout Tonight" ft. Mr. Bentley and "Speed of Light" ft. Kid Cudi and Jessica Gomes!
Lady Gaga isn't the only thing to look forward to this fashion week - there's real fashion too! Although I'd pay money to spy Lady Gaga perform in a simple pair of Levi's sans blood, that's none too realistic and far from the company's intentions. Instead, Levi's is teaming up with Opening Ceremony for a debut of unisex pants and shorts. A dash of corduroy here and more denim there for jackets and shirts, and you have yourself an official launch. With pricing below $150, Opening Ceremony flagship locations, as well as Barneys and the Levi's San Francisco store, will debut in the middle of February. We hear the corduroy will be launched in eight colors, but I stopped counting after I heard fuchsia and teal. Marvelous! With recent Rodarte releases, and Chloe Sevigny shenanigans, I say we petition a raise for the marketing director of Opening Ceremony.
Recessionistas, have no fear! I know every woman has an expensive pair of jeans in their closet that they paid way too much money for! But why wouldn’t you buy them? Your butt has never looked so good, nor have your legs ever looked this skinny! They make you feel great about yourself! However, it is hard to continue dishing out a few hundred dollars for a pair in these tough times.
Have no fear, Daniella Siri is here! Her Recession Denim line, launched in April 2009 gives women great jeans on the cheap. They range from $85-$120 and like to hug the figure. Only the brave should slip-on! Daniella’s idea is that women spend a little more on a pair of great, staple jeans that will be in style for a while. This allows you to splurge on the trendy tops, sweaters, and jewelry you have been eyeballing for days! [Couture in the City]

The Jean Shop
Well I have a favorite belt, yes I’m blogging about a belt. I’ve had this belt since college and trust me that was many many years ago. Anyway, The belt is worn in just right. It's a dark brown heavy leather belt which has been worn to a point where the belt now looks light brown and weathered. It's just beautiful and perfect. The problem is, it's torn in the back and now my lovely belt needs a replacement.
I was at the Apple store on 14th street and walked the block for a cab and passed by the Jean Shop. This place is amazing. Jeans and jackets hang on the wall in all shades of leather and denim, belts and shoes in display everywhere. They offer any style, color, wash - whatever you like in jeans.
