DRUGS
The modus operandi of record labels is to move units, but not exactly this kind. The Department of Justice provided defense lawyers with some shocking shipping records, which reveal that several road cases normally meant to carry musical equipment were being shipped in and out of Interscope Records' Los Angeles office. However, instead of guitars and amps, the cases were filled with kilos of cocaine, as well as upwards of $1 million. Wow.
According to The Smoking Gun, this discovery is the result of a year-long investigation and has led to the indictment of rap manager James Rosemond, who is being held without bail in Manhattan's Metropolitan Correctional Center.
Though reactions to Amy Winehouse's demise have ranged from sympathetic to brutal "she had it coming" sentiments, one thing is certain --she is not the first, and likely not the last musician to suffer such a fate. It's known as the 'Forever 27' club, it includes Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and Jimi Hendrix, who all died tragically and unnaturally.
Marco Perego created a sculpture two years ago called, 'The Only Good Rock Star Is a Dead Rock Star.' The piece shows Amy Winehouse shot in the head by William Boroughs. Winehouse replaces Joan Vollmer, Boroughs' wife who was shot during a game of William Tell in 1951. The sculpture was part of 'The Truth Is All of These Things. The Truth Is None of These Things. The Truth Is Some of These Things,' at Half Gallery.
We thought that Kate Moss ex boyfriend was out of trouble. Obviously he's not.
He is about to stand trial on a drugs possession charge following a probe into the death of a British filmmaker who was shooting a documentary about him.
In January 2010, Robin Whitehead was found dead in an East London's apartment. She died from a suspected overdose. The home where she died was rented by one of Pete's best friend, Peter Wolfe.
Two weeks after her stay at the Betty Ford Clinic, Lindsay Lohan is staying clean and passed all random drugs and alcohol tests. She really seems to be back on the right track.
Her father, Michael Lohan, told Radar Online that she was doing well and that she has cooperated with all the tests she was required to pass: "Lindsay is doing four or five tests a week and she has passed all of them with flying colors. She's doing really great right now. She is serious about staying healthy and is avoiding all the old things she used to do."
She became as good as gold. She even skipped the Golden Globes Ceremony and watched it at home, probably eating popcorn and drinking water...
Congrats Lindsey, wanna have a drink to celebrate?
Ok, so apparently T.I. might not have a day job much longer. Clifford Harris, the rapper known as T.I. should be on an amazing high. His movie Takers, which he executive produced and starred in, is number one at the box office. He has a new album out this month and has finally made his long time union with Tameka "Tiny" Coddle legal. Maybe that just isn't enough for someone who has everything though. As of just yesterday, the rapper and his wife were pulled over in West Hollywood after police suspected marijuana in the vehicle. After a search of the car, police discovered methamphetamines in the form of pills that "resembled Ecstasy," a spokesperson for the police department commented.
The cast of the Jersey Shore had returned to the Garden State! They are already starting drama in Seaside Heights the best way they know how- by flexing their muscles! According to sources, The Situation was hanging out on the balcony of the Aztec Hotel. The crowd started to form outside the hotel as he was dancing, and it turned into a violent riot when he removed his shirt to reveal his famous 6 pack. The Chief of police had to ask The Situation to put his shirt back on in order to calm the crowd.
On top of the ridiculous riot, sources are saying that one of the housemates developed a little bit of a habit while filming in Miami. One of Jersey’s finest was doing large amount of cocaine while the camera’s weren’t rolling in Florida. The housemates will not admit who it was, but I’m sure we will find out soon enough! For now, we are pumping our fists until premiere night!
Detailing the ups and downs during the brief success of an all-girl rock band in the 1970s, The Runaways offers a look into the ambition, hardships and volatility of being a female rocker in time when men ruled the stage.
The movie zooms in on the behind-the-scenes drama that both propelled and destroyed the band's short-lived celebrity. Pair lead singer Cherie Currie's (Dakota Fanning) broken home upbringing with Joan Jett's (Kristen Stewart) tough-as-leather demeanor, add three precocious California girls - Lita Ford (Scout Taylor-Compton), Sandy West (Stella Maeve), and Jackie Fox (who did not lend her name to the script, but who Alia Shawkat's character is based on) - and sprinkle it with a dose of overbearing crazy from their over-the-top manager, Kim Fowley (Michael Shannon) and what do we get? A pack of eager, under-aged, parentless vixens out to devour fame, experiment with drugs and alcohol, blur the lines of sexuality, and bask in warmth of their rise to the top. And for a while, the girls succeed in their dream of being the first alleged all-girl rock band - garnering press, fans, and record deals and following in the footsteps of their idols. But excess and greed prove to be the accelerants for their cherry bomb as fighting, drug abuse, and exploitive tactics from their manager eventually result in The Runaways' fall from rock and roll grace. Based on the book by Currie, the movie (produced by Jett and directed by Floria Sigismondi) is a history-rich, fast-paced glimpse into the lives of the women that paved the way for future female rockers.
I am fortunate to have a very close friend who has been prominent in the night club scene in London for many years now. Through him, as we grew up together, I got to discover a world that not many people get to see. I saw how the nightclubs ran, what it took to make them successful, I saw the glamour, and the grime behind them. I met some very odd, very scary, and very successful people. While we may all think we could run a successful night spot, there’s a reason why so few last, and even fewer are worth mentioning.
This past week, in conjunction with Mirrorball and Perrier, plans have been put into motion to create an online Nightlife Hall of Fame. The committee that has been assembled to choose the nominees for the first round of entrants is as impressive a repertoire of talents as any possible nominations. Sadly, there names will mean nothing to any but a select few people. Carmen d’Alessio, possibly the most successful party thrower and party goer of her generation is on the committee, along with Steve Lewis (manager of the Limelight in its hey-day and today's final world on all things nightlife), Nikki Camp, and a handful of other names that you won’t remember.
