Causing a stir on the internet, and sure to be popping up at Urban Outfitters stores any day now, Ryan Gosling coloring books are now available for sale! Featuring 17 pages of black and white Ryan Gosling portraits ready to be colored in, this is just one in a series of "Colour Me Good" adult coloring books created by Brit Mel Simone Elliott, the director and soon-to-be powerhouse behind I Love Mel.
"I Love Mel started out life as a few badges that were made and handed out to make Mel Simone Elliott feel better after her boyfriend dumped her," Elliott writes in the "About" section on her company's website. She goes on to discuss graduating from the Royal College of Art and how her little badges developed into a brand selling anything from temporary tattoos to original paintings. In discussing her company initiative, Elliott explains how she saw a niche of young adults who were interested in reclaiming the pastimes of their youth. The major cause for concern within this niche was that while the young adults had grown up, the artistic mediums of their childhoods had not grown up with them. So Elliott took it upon herself to create paper dolls and coloring books for adults, giving them the simple creativity of cutting out and coloring in that they so desired.
Influenced by pop culture, fame, celebrity, and glossy magazine, it is no wonder that Ryan Gosling (not to mention Kate Moss) would be at the top of her subject list. If the internet buzz today is any indication, Elliott seems to definitely know her audience, Ryan is always a hit!
Pippa the playa is single again!
The wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton was a truly spectacular affair indeed. It is quite commendable that despite this day and age, the world can still very much respect a traditional and historical event such as this and celebrate it.
BUT, we are in the modern era after all. Aside from the marriage everyone was waiting for, the true center of the wedding was arguably Pippa Middleton, the beautiful little sister of Kate. Almost instantly, a star was born. However, after only a couple of months in the heavy spotlight, Pippa has broken up with boyfriend Alex Loudon, a former cricket player for England. Reports say that their relationship had taken a backseat to her newfound fame.
The Dandelion, Stephen Starr’s latest contribution to the Philadelphia food scene, has officially set the bar for all British Pubs to come. From the décor to the creative play on traditional cuisine, this gastropub nails it. Securing a dinner reservation is a feat in itself.
Located on the corner of 18th and Sansom Streets, The Dandelion’s interior is warm and cozy thanks to artwork, furniture and decorative pieces imported from England. The first floor has two levels with both areas dedicated to drinks. The upstairs is used for sit-down dining with another small bar area located in a side room.
You think birthday clowns are the best ? Think again. Prince Harry would like Snoop Dogg and Tinie Tempah to come to Prince William's engagement party. Some make their proposal at White Castle and get grunk in Vegas. Some marry Kate Middleton and call Snoop Dogg to share fish and chips.
So this would be a little buddy party. The kind of party where you play Wii and ask Snoop Dogg to bring the drinks : nothing special. I do it often. Rumours say Tom Jones has been invited to the "official" party. Queen Mum dancing on Tom Jones music ? Gross.
Harry will officialy contact Snoop Dogg next week. The rapper used to be banned from England since he had a fight on a plane with police officers. Now he is welcomed by the royal family. As you kids can see, you must never lose hope.
This week Matt Berninger returned to us with his ever so distinctive deep baritone tremble, On May 11th 2010 The National’s 5th studio effort High Violet was released in the United States and as per usual, The National have arrived with yet another poetic tale about the pitfalls of humanity.
Following 2007’s Boxer, High Violet is an earnestly exhausting execution. For every one awkward moment in our adult lives there is a track on High Violet that occupies it and provides an arbitrary explanation that is satisfying to anyone going through anything.
Well folks, here it goes - another boy/girl pair up, another case of matching plaids, songs about love, relationship ambiguity. I didn’t want to give Slow Club a chance, I was adamant that there was nothing new to learn there. Yet despite my unreasonable doubts, I recently listened to the music from duo Rebecca Taylor and Charles Watson of Sheffield, England. Their debut album, Yeah So, lent further proof to something I had already proved to myself by thinking that I knew how I'd feel about something before giving it a chance. The message, in short: You’re wrong about yourself.
On Thursday afternoon, the United Nations Climate Change Conference was privy to an unexpected (and in some circles, unwelcome) guest as Radiohead’s Thom Yorke mysteriously acquired a press pass to attend the final two days of the weeklong conference. As representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) were unfairly thrown out, Yorke managed to sit-in on the remaining discussions, including one conducted by members of the U.S. government, alongside fellow environmentalist Tony Juniper.
Although normally reserved for upcoming musical performances, I feel it necessary to include comedian Eddie Izzard in the list of imminent tour dates. It has been nearly six years since the acclaimed comedy staple has embarked on a stand-up comedy tour and information such as this cannot be ignored.
Eddie Izzard has been a performing stand-up since he was unceremoniously ejected from the University of Sheffield and began working as a street performer during the eighties. He slowly began to grow in notoriety throughout England and eventually took his act to stand-up comedy clubs that began popping up throughout Britain. He continued refining his material and, after several successful comedy tours, he gained noted public appeal as the result of his “Dress to Kill” tour, whose video was regularly run on HBO. Izzard continued performing stand-up, but his growing public demand allowed for a successful transition into other facets of entertainment, including various voice-over projects, numerous roles in major motion pictures, and the lead character of Wayne Malloy on FX network’s defunct drama series The Riches beside co-lead Minnie Driver.
As we find ourselves well into the “digital age” and a vast majority of people find themselves using the internet as their primary source for news, it sometimes pays off to pay the required pocket change for an archaically fast-fading newspaper, even for the super thick Sunday edition. In England’s Sunday Times newspaper, the week-end feature-ette of the London Times, loyal print patrons received a special bonus by way of a free CD by the former Brit-pop superpower Blur. The ten-track addition, made exclusively available for the November 22 issue, is a composite of live performances of classic Blur tunes that the group performed during their short-lived 2009 reunion. The paper also included an opportunity for an extra five songs that can be downloaded from itunes for free on November 29.
The former front man for the Smiths and patriarch for the melancholy, Morrissey, was released from a hospital after collapsing during a performance in Swindon, England. A spokesman for the hospital stated that the singer’s condition was “much improved” and that “he was admitted overnight as a precautionary measure.”
The incident occurred during a performance at the Oasis Leisure Centre in Swindon Saturday night. Prior to the opening song, a rendition of the classic Smiths’ tune “This Charming Man,” the singer had addressed the audience by saying, “Good evening…probably.” According to fans that were in attendance, he struggled through the song occasionally holding his hand up to his mouth as if he were hiding an urge to vomit. At the conclusion of the number, he dropped down to his knees and then fell to the floor. Two band members helped the fallen singer offstage where the he was reported as having difficulty breathing. A spokesman for the venue then announced to the audience that the show was cancelled due to serious illness.
