Bassnectar: Leaving his fingerprints on the Fillmore

If you were walking down Washington Avenue last Friday and thought you might have heard a dinosaur stampeding by, don’t be alarmed, it was just Bassnectar shaking the Fillmore at the Jackie Gleason Theater. With his artillery of in-your-face bass lines, devastating drops and shattering drum hits, Lorin Ashton got behind his equipment and gave an anxious and ready to explode Miami crowd a performance that will have them remembering the name “Bassnectar”. The crowd of (approximately) 300 was properly prepped by the sounds of Eskmo (San Francisco) and the energy filled VibeSquaD (Colorado), but the chants of “Bass! Bass! Bass! Bass!” were just a small taste of the electricity that would fill the room at 11pm. It would be an understatement to say that Miami gave the bass man himself a warm welcome but as the show went on, the love was thrown back to the crowd with a mind wobbling light show and an abundance of synchronized and invigorating visuals. The crowd moved as one as every person moved their hands to the beat and surrendered to the spine tingling beats and galvanizing stage presence that was handed to them. Straight out of San Francisco, Bassnectar is proving himself to be an innovator in the world of dubstep and has displayed his growth with his set list of hits including “Timestretch” and “Bass head." His part in combining some of the top songs in today’s electronic music scene with his own beats, as well as producing his own material, has brought Mr. Ashton to the top tier among Dubstep artists. We wish him the best of luck on the rest of his tour and will be excited to see him next time he hits the 305.
