FALL FASHION
As the weather continues to transition, the advancing chill will only get more biting. And no matter how much we want to back up and retreat away from our windows and doors, jobs, responsibilities, and recreation call us forth. While you have to bid adieu to the warmth and comfort of your bed and blanket, say hello to the next best thing: fall's oversized knitwear. The right oversized sweater can have you feeling as snug as a bug in a rug, even if you're a cranky commuter in a cramped train car. But for now, stay where you are. We already took the liberty of doing some of the searching for you. And not only did we find some cute cozy knits, but we bargained and penny pinched our way to some of the most affordable ones. Which one can you see yourself wrapped up in?
For the average clotheshorse, compulsive shopper, fashionista, and anyone of their ilk, the arrival of fall is as highly anticipated as Christmas; maybe more. Imagine them dancing in place with childlike excitement, not outside the windows of a toy store, but Barney’s instead. And what on earth could they be tap dancing their little feet about? Naturally the shoe trends for fall 2011! But before anyone sticks their toes into the circle for a suspenseful recitation of “eenie meeni minie moe” we thought it would be smart to round up the major players for this season’s shoe tag.
With the popularity of the legging-boot combo, wearing dresses for Winter and Fall is not only realistic, but a great way to add variety when you seem to be constantly reaching for your comfortable jeans --or God forbid, sweatpants! (Side note: we are in fierce opposition of sweatpants, for the record.) So how do you stay warm, comfortable and stylish? The answer is knee-high boots, tights/leggings and a dress. With these styles, you may get through the winter without ever slipping on a pair of pants. Here are few of our on-trend, comfortable and warm picks.
Boots in every style, color and texture!
Hot off the catwalk, the Italians: Valentino and Prada, chose to showcase traditional stacked heel styled boots. Whereas The British Fashion house Burberry preferred to make their statement with chunky, ankle length, lace ups. The boots came in a range of materials from soft as butter leather through to slouchy suede and sexy python.
So how do we work this look?
The riding boot with its flat sole and discreet 'go with anything in your closet' style is perhaps the most versatile and flattering to wear. For those who wish to add an element of Je Ne Sais Quoi, a stacked
heeled boot spells serious sex appeal. And for us fashion mavens? It has to be the wedged, ankle style. Worn with the wrong type of clothing (short skirts being one example) these boots make your feet look like they are attached to a pair of clompy bricks! But, team with a pair of slim fit/slouchy pants and you will provoke serious fashion envy.
From Prada to Christian Dior and Gucci, the catwalks were awash with fur this season. The problem is we like little fluffy animals. In fact, we like them soooo much that we don't really want to start wearing them dead on our backs. So how can we work this season's fabulous trend and still remain animal friendly?
Halston Heritage tapped into the opulent trend for jewel colored furs, with its faux fur coat in sapphire blue. Whilst Rachel Zoe's long awaited new collection, showcased a ton of wearable faux furs --from on-trend faux fur vests to her ever so cozy, but stylish, cropped 'Penelope' jacket.
They say fashion trends are cyclical, but the reappearance of this fad is even more surprising than the return of 80’s fashion! Behold, the Moon Boot. Maybe it was Russia’s announcement of the upcoming Space Hotel; whatever it is, outer space is in again.
7 years ago, in 2004, The New York Times declared this puffy footwear as the next big thing. That same year, Marc Jacobs sold over 9000 pairs, but they then went out of style as quickly as they came in, disappearing from collections and wardrobes alike.
This season, fashion giants Jimmy Choo and Chloe are both offering pricey options for those willing to give the look a second go. Jimmy Choo’s come in a variety of colors, ranging from black to leopard print and will run you a whopping $695. While Chloe offers fewer choices, with only two types of shearling, they retail for a comparatively reasonable $525.
It’s that time of the year again, time for fall fashion week. It is not just New York City, like some people seem to think; all across the country cities are creating their own festivities. Case in point: Austin Fashion Week, now in its third year its following and prominence is expanding at an exponential rate.
Austin’s fashion week is different than many others in that there is not just one specific location, but rather a variety of events taking places in salons and retail stores all around the city. Last year, in 2010, an impressive 125 events occurred including clothing and jewelry showings. Even home accessories and furniture makers took part in the fun.
After clicking through pictures of New York Fashion Week’s new collections, Miami fashionistas might find themselves discouraged by the upcoming Fall trends. We love Oscar de la Renta, but who are we kidding? Fur gilets have no place in the 305. Don’t let that get you down, though. There are a ton of other trends perfect for our November weather. Miami isn’t as seasonless as you think.
Alongside the fur and heavy velvet were sheer dresses, cheerful colors, and too-loose silhouettes suitable for South Florida. Floaty tops and pants with extra leg room are just some of the wearable trends. Breezy skirts with Spring’s longer hemline appeared at Tracy Reese and Christian Siriano. These skirts are perfect for windy days when you don’t feel like battling the wind to keep your skirt down.
Miami's fall fashion trends may not match the fuzzy boots or knit coats worn all over Manhattan, Boston, or Chicago but there are several right-off-the-runway trends for Miami fashionistas to sport this fall, right here under the sun. One of the best ways to stay cool, of course, is to be in the nude. Though not literally, more than ever our natural birthday suit complexions come in all shades, in patent pumps, strapless silhouettes, and bare shades of make-up to compliment that sun-kissed skin. Conveniently, these nude shades appeared this summer and will stroll right through the fall to substitute for those darker neutrals like brown and black. This color will keep you looking chic during the fall and most importantly, bare!
