Summer trends are slowly fading; fall is approaching and with it comes an array of new trends. If you’re like most you are anxiously awaiting fall's romantic weather, eager to wrap yourself in colorful layers and stylish add ons. One of our favorite trends of the season, however, is the fierce fur bag statement seen at Miu Miu, Fendi, Louis Vuitton, and Marni among others. Sometimes it just seems like designers like to work together. Whether they come in a bright, colorful hue or something a little deeper they’re each just as furry and cozy, so don’t be surprised if catch yourself hugging your bag more than once.
City dressing is all about versatility and being able to go from day to night. This flattering dress from DVF Diane Von Furstenberg will certainly take you from the office and beyond. We love the retro-inspired print. Top the look off with the jacket of the season -- a leather moto-jacket by All Saints.
It's fun to keep it chic. Who says that classic lines aren't sexy? We can't begin to tell you how many compliments this model received as she strutted down the Bloomingdale's runway in this amazing Tahari tweed sheath dress. The makeup artist added a bold fuchsia lip for added appeal. A Fendi purse in a pop of color and Marc by Marc Jacobs statement necklace completed this look. Don't be shy and add edgy accessories, such as these leather grommet-detailed gloves.
Leather can now be worn to the office and beyond. This Hugo Boss leather skirt was to-die-for . The color of the skirt and the the way it was cut is so flattering on the body. This model rocked the look with a pretty Gerard Darel blouse and Links of London layered necklaces. Links of London is a brand favored by Kate Middleton and the pieces were gorgeous.
A wool fedora is such a great way to add a little mystery to your fall look. Think "undercover chic." This colorblock jacket by Marc by Marc Jacobs was a real head-turner. Many who attended the runway event were saying that they wanted this piece. Joonbug adores Marc Jacobs and all of his designs, so we also are a fan. With a slight military influence, but with an air of added whimsy with accent colors in burgundy, blue and tan this warm jacket can be worn with many outfits. The skinny jeans with patch accents are also by Marc by Marc Jacobs. The burgundy/wine color Ray Ban shades the model wore are perfect for fall!
Another notice-me look was the Ted Baker London ensemble. Florals can also be worn into fall. We saw this as this look graced the runway. The skirt was gorgeous and can definitley be styled to reflect your personality. If you wear the skirt with a leather jacket, you can make the look more street chic; or you could give it that upscale Park Ave. feel with a blazer and a chain-link bag. Ted Baker London has a great collection for fall including a chic tan coat we noticed.
It’s the absence of color that has taken the runway by storm this fashion season. The best footwear and handbag designers are using this crystal clear trend to project a mix of elegance and sophistication with stylish and innovative shapes and sizes. While slight hints of color are employed to make a shoe pop and handbags stand out, it is the lack of color that make these accessories a hit for spring. Not to mention, it offers a versatility that allows for easy pairings with almost anything in your closet.
Simona Blumenfeld Kornberg the owner of NJ based boutique gem, Mint Vintage boasts an array of chic finds. Here's the store and Kornberg's interesting tale.
What inspired you to open a boutique?
Ironically, I began my career at age fourteen in the modeling industry. I was a top model in Israel and learned a lot about fashion that way - designers, cuts, styles, fabrics. As a teenager I was always going to flea markets in Israel and dressed myself with the great fashions that I found there. I liked them so much better than the designer clothing that I could have gotten for free as a model. At the age of twenty-five, I decided to move to America with my mind and heart set on opening my own boutique. My dream since I was a little girl was to have my very own designer boutique. How do you select your pieces, Simona? I have a very discerning fashionable eye. It's something I think you're born with and develops with life's journey and influences. I select my pieces based on the notion - that timeless beauty is what's always in style and forever will be. I do like to feature trends, but then we all become slaves to the latest trend, rather than what looks flattering on us an an individual. I know my clientele and I know what they like and dislike & style my boutique accordingly. I sell designers such as Chanel which speaks to every woman of every age. Often, the quality of vintage is better and everybody is copying everybody - it's hard to find an exciting item to wear. You'll never have that problem at Mint Luxury Consignment. From a stunning Escada runway dress, to a Cozy Dior sweater set, to a hot pair of red sole Louboutin beauties, to a rare Chanel purse -- you'll find it all here. My customers often joke that Sarah Jessica Parker's "Sex and the City" character Carrie Bradshaw, would be in heaven here. This is a mother/daughter boutique. Tell me about your background in the fashion industry? After I was a model, I opened 6 very successful boutiques name: Fuga, featuring the latest style of clothing, handbags and accessories from France and Italy. I liked selling contemporary, new designs, but I always had a passion for vintage fashions. I did quite well with my Fuga stores. I sold the 6 stores moved back to Israel for 4 years, and had children. I missed my country so it was a nice break. When I came back to the US, I saw all the estate sales and I knew the time was right to open a vintage designer boutique in the US. What are some of the hot vintage styles you're featuring right now? I carefully pick amazing clothing and handbags that you can never replace, and all are in amazing condition, fresh, artistic and individualistic. There is only one at the boutique and you and only you will have it (if you buy it). How exciting is that? Plus the price is so much more reasonable than any item you'll buy in a mainstream department store, for the same quality. Some of the "hot" styles I'm featuring are vintage cloche hats, party dresses, gorgeous sweaters, and stunning Louboutins. I also have a coveted Fendi, Chanel and Louis Vuitton collection that women from Manhattan travel to see me. I also carry vintage baubles, but these are high-end and stunning. I also carry 1960's sunglasses from Pucci. Every item tells a story. Advice for others who are interested in opening their own fashion boutique or business? Have a vision, have a goal. Work hard and make a plan. Have a niche. Never have regret and follow your dreams, even if it leads you to other countries. All the wisdom and information you gather will guide you. Never let anyone tell you who you are or limit your success. The sky is the limit!
One store. One city. One luxury experience for one-hundred and eleven historical years. Bergdorf Goodman is preparing to commemorate its 111th birthday, and the fall surprises include something for everyone. As one of the most successful single stores in a single city, this occasion is not only a monumental event for the company, but also for the designers who started at the New York City store.
While Bergdorf Goodman has a combined total of 190,000 square feet between the men and women’s departments, and brings in an estimated $600 million in annual sales, rivaling even the likes of other, larger, competitors, it takes flawless dedication, an undying commitment to fashion, and a strong vow to nurturing relationships and providing quality service, to last this long. With this many successful years under the iconic store’s belt, we think the festivities are well deserved.
While you're out relaxing at the beach and soaking up some sun, the fashion taste makers are already hard at work deciding what menswear trends are going to be must-haves for Spring 2013. London started off the men's fashion weeks with its first ever stand-alone menswear fashion week. Prince Charles kicked off this momentous fashion event with a soiree at St. James Palace. With it's young up-and-comers, London Fashion Week provided a glimpse into what the edgy downtowners are going to be rocking next spring. Milan's Fashion Week is almost coming to a close but not without it's own surprises such as Dolce & Gabbana's model-less runway show. Read on to check out the Spring 2013 must-have trends.
While this classic trend has never gone out of style, floral prints and patterns will certainly be making a much more diverse statement for summer 2012. Betsey Johnson mixed vibrant colors with oversized tropical floral prints for her spring/summer 2012 collection, while Prada brought back the mod-look, and still others like Valentino and Isaac Mizrahi took a romantic approach.
Big bangles are the latest fun accessories hitting the streets for this spring and summer. We saw them on the runways during SS ’12 FW, as designers everywhere decorated their models with big, bold, bulky bangles. From Fendi, to Yves Saint Laurent, to Chanel and Donna Karan, big bangles were a themed accessory. Chanel opted for gold gemmed cuffs, while Donna Karan chose bulky wooden bangles.
As the weather warms, bangles are appearing everywhere. This accessory really makes a bold statement with striking colors and daring patterns. Wear them alone, or pile them up to create a fierce look.
If you love designer bags, shoes, and accessories, a new boutique has come to Chelsea called DF Discount. As covered in Time Out NY, the boutique offers in-season designer goods from Prada, Fendi, Tod's, Burberry, Jimmy Choo, Balenciaga, Dolce & Gabbana, and more. Savings average about 20% off what you would normally pay. We were a little confused as to how this was possible --we always assumed we had to pay full retail for our designer goods! According to the owner, all items are 100% authentic and the key to their business is that they import their goods "duty-free" from overseas in small quantities, passing the savings on to their customers (which apparently includes celebs in-the-know). As described on their site: "We travel throughout Europe to bring you current authentic merchandise from top highend designers. We keep our over head low so we can offer you the lowest price possible. Visit us often as new styles are always arriving."
Buying a nice bag can be tricky. There are those purses that can cost over $3000 and will break your bank account, and then there are totes that ring in at under $100 and will, well, just break period. So what’s a good budget when buying a nice bag? Our thinking is that you want to get something nice that will last (translation: over $200), but that doesn’t make your rent check bounce (yes, that’s happened). So, we’re thinking of spending no more than a grand. Good news: we scoured our fave designers' collections and found MANY amazing bags in this price range. See our picks below!
