The Best of City Harvest's Summer in the City Benefit

This past Wednesday City Harvest's young professionals group, Generation Harvest, held its eleventh annual Summer in the City restaurant tasting and cocktail party at the Metropolitan Pavilion. During the event, guests had the opportunity to participate in a silent auction, featuring numerous goodies, both food and non-food related, as well as sample eats and libations from some of New York's best restaurants and bars. This year's event had over 650 attendees and raised over $230,000 to support City Harvest's mission of feeding NYC's hungry.

Share our Strength's Taste of the Nation

Share Our Strength's Taste of the Nation was held this past Thursday, June 2, 2011 at the Broward County Convention Center. Dozens of the city's chefs and restaurants participated as well as our very own radio personalities Paul Castronovo & Young Ron Brewer of Big 105.9 FM who hosted the event.

I couldn’t think of a better way to help put an end to childhood hunger than tasting some of the signature dishes of South Florida's finest chefs and washing it all down with a premier selection of vintage wines. If only all charity work was this easy! My first stop of the night was at Chops Lobster Bar’s table where Chef Holger Strutt was serving up Lobster Bisque and Veal Schnitzel with Confit Lemons and White Anchovies. The bisque really set a high bar for the night. This was the best lobster bisque I’ve ever tasted. The flavors were well developed, it was creamy and rich without being overbearing, simply perfect. The veal schnitzel was also delicious; their confit lemons were sweet but not candied which really added a great element along with the white anchovies and super tender veal (I’m talking about able-to-cut-with-the-side-of-a-plastic-fork tender).

Benjamin Franklin had a pretty accurate theory going when he said, "Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy." The more you think about beer and the good times spent together, the more you see the truth in this quote. So, if you value beer as much as Mr. Franklin seemed to, a heady beer festival awaits you.
