FORBES
Ah, Thanksgiving. The time of year where families reunite, turkeys are consumed in copius amounts, gluttony ensues... and fellow Americans pepper spray each other to get a moderate discount on an Xbox 360. Well, at least this year. One can always rely on national holidays to ring in interesting headlines. So, in case you were in a tryptophan-induced coma for the past 4 days, here's a roundup of what happened in the interim:
The Forbes '30 Under 30' list is officially underway. In their January issue, Forbes will feature 30 bright, talented stars under the age of 30 in 12 categories; including finance, entertainment, music, media, science, real estate and more. The best part is you have a chance to vote for someone you think is worthy! To nominate a candidate, log in here with your Facebook, Twitter or Linkedin account and post a comment with the name of the individual and why they deserve to make the list.
Hey Ladies (and gentlemen?), contrary to popular belief, there are still single eligible men left. Well, at least according to New York Observer ,who released their '2011 50 Media Power Bachelors' list a couple days ago. If you're like me and you have a predisposition for loving nerds, you will dig this list. It includes well-knowns like Anderson Cooper, Shepard Smith, and the extremely drool-worthy "Brad Pitt of Media," Pete Cashmore of The Mashable. (Who would be my #1 stalking choice if I was still single.) Honorable mentions go to lesser-known cutie patooties, Jeff Bercovici (Forbes), Tyler Hicks (NYT), and Jason Kincaid (TechCrunch).
Who woulda thought? Ahead of Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, John Lennon and Marilyn Monroe is iconic French designer Yves Saint Laurent as the world's richest posthumous celebrity. The designer, who passed away from brain cancer last year, grossed over 350 million dollars from the sales of his estate. This number beats out musical-makers Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein, who had a combined income of 235 million dollars from their back catalogue, Michael Jackson who had 90 million dollars and Elvis Presley who had roughly 55 million according to Forbes.com.
At the top of his modeling career, Delaware native Garrett Neff needs no introduction. Being named Forbes’ fifth most successful male model goes to show that this gorgeous, 6’1”, perfectly sculpted body made it to the top.
Most recognizably, he is the face of Calvin Klein Body, where he appears as the first model in the iconic campaign. He follows twice Oscar-nominated Djimon Hounsou, Mark Wahlberg, and Kate Moss. Legendary photographers Bruce Weber and Tom Hintnaus shot the current Garrett series. From the pictures, you can see he will have no problems filling these infamous shoes.
