Who Wears the Pants?

In with the highs, out with the lows! You can kiss your low ride Levi's goodbye! From the runways to the blogs, and most recently the streets, the high-waisted pant is the new "it" item. It has always been a fashion rule for women to primarily wear dresses and skirts to events, however, celebs such as Rihanna and Leighton Meester think other wise. Ladies show off those curves and look chic while doing it. Women normally frown at the thought of wearing hip hugging pants, but once we show you a few of this season's stylish favorites, you'll be thinking other wise.

The Global Fashion Awards Best Dressed

WGSN held their 2nd annual Global Fashion Awards honoring fashion elite from all over the world last night. The event was held at Gotham Hall in New York City and select attendees came in the masses for the black tie ceremony and dinner. The event was hosted by fashionisto and personality Robert Verdi and some of the notable attendees included Anna Sui, Peter Alexander, Charlotte Ronson, and Liam Gallagher. While the night was focused on who was winning what, one of the most exciting features of the night was who was wearing what. So let's get to what it was really all about --the fashion in the room! Of course everyone was dressed to the nines (as you can imagine), but here are a few major standouts that really made an impression.

CHARITY
Why Be Charitable?

I know, I know. It's rough out there. Paychecks are being cut, the cost of health care is skyrocketing, and competition for jobs is greater than ever before. There's no denying that it's financially tight out there, which has caused many of us to ask: why give?

Even the most philanthropic of us all been starting to ask ourselves that question, and with good reason. But giving to others can actually help boost both the economy and ourselves. Not to mention, it's never bad to give back.

So here's a list about why it's important to stay charitable, even in these rough times:

FIRST COURSE
Tacos and Jeans

Cheap tacos. Free jeans. And a soda.

The lastest food truck launched by the Gap, appropriately named, "Pico de Gap", is a little bizarre, but note-worthy nonetheless. As a means to promote their 1969 denim collection, the Gap has teamed up with several big name celebrity chefs such as Ryan Scott and Marcel Vigneron (of Top Chef fame), Katie Lee (of Billy Joel fame), and Rick Gresh to create an outside-the-box dining-promotion hybrid.

Two signature recipe tacos (crafted by each respective chef) and a drink will cost you just $1.69. If you can show proof of a same-day Gap purchase, your food is free. Twenty dollar coupons off the denim collection will be given out with every order and some lucky winners will even score a free pair of jeans. Win. Win. Win.

Style Icon, Career Woman, and Family Gal Sarah Jessica Parker is the Modern Day Wonder Woman

Blessed with a whirlwind movie career, an unbelievable business swagger, and a sense of style so iconic she'll go down in fashion history among the likes of Coco Chanel and Jackie O, Sarah Jessica Parker can do it all. An accomplished actress from a young age, Parker is best known for her role as "Carrie Bradshaw" on Sex and the City, the hit TV series turned movie sequel, where she also served as executive producer.

Former president and chief creative officer for Halston Heritage (reports just surfaced that she will no longer be associated with the company), Golden Globe winner, Emmy winner, UNICEF representative, and former Gap spokeswoman make up a mere fraction of her credentials list. She also has a fragrance brand that grosses seven-figures a year as well as a clothing brand. If that weren't enough, Monolo Blahnik has named a shoe after her, the SJP.

High/ Low, High/ Low, It's Off To Shop We Go!

The phenomenon of mixing insanely expensive designer pieces with label-less bargain duds began when Sharon Stone appeared on the red carpet of the 1996 Oscars wearing a Valentino skirt paired with a plain black t-shirt from the Gap. It's been fifteen years (105 in fashion years) since the birth of the High/Low craze, yet it is still going strong. Quickly evolving from a trend to a necessity, High/Low fashion has come to mean that mixing a $3 tank top with a $300 skirt is more than acceptable. In fact, it's highly encouraged. Celebs and commoners alike are balancing their wardrobes with high-end designer pieces and cheap-o trendy clothes and accessories.

Frugal Floral Footwear

Sometimes bold, sometimes delicate--floral prints have been a favorite trend of ours this spring. From scarves to sunglasses to dresses, this trend has come up everywhere, and while we would love to get our hands on all of it, we've learned that a few key pieces are all that's necessary to incorporate the trend into our wardrobe. A fashionably achievable look we've seen so far has been floral print footwear, which adds just the right dose of pretty to your outfit. Shoes allow you to stay on trend without breaking the bank, so we found some floral print footwear each under $50 for all the flower power lovers out there. We may even have thrown in a pair of socks.

The Gap Gives Away 10,000 Pairs of Jeans!

As part of a new Facebook API location feature, announced today by Mr. Zuckerberg himself, Gap will be giving away lots of free loot.

The new application will allow shoppers to "check in" at a Gap location (on a certain date, yet to be disclosed) and as a thank you, the first 10,000 checked-in shoppers will be rewarded with a free pair of Gap jeans. After the first 10,000, the remaining shoppers to check in will receive 40% off a pair of jeans. The new Facebook feature will be similar to Foursquare, which also doles out promotions. However, with the coming launch of this new feature, scoring a great deal at your favorite retailer may just be a click away.
