Dare to Wear: Extreme Men's Trends

Heeled Boots

For those of you unfamiliar with the genius of Rick Owens, allow us to introduce you. This American born but Paris based designer is worshiped by the fashion elite for his innovative, edgy, slightly Goth aesthetic. For Spring 2012, Rick introduced his 100mm Mohawk Wedge Boot for men, his first heeled boot for men. (For those of you too lazy to Google it, 100mm translate to just under 4 inches.) Although visionary, Rick Owens was not the first to introduce the heeled boot trend. Jeffrey Campbell, the beloved footwear brand, had its Areas men’s boot with its 2.5-inch heel. Other designers who have embraced the heeled boot trend are Gareth Pugh and Alain Quilici.

Pugh Not To Be McQueen's Successor?

Everyone is patiently waiting for Alexander McQueen's last collection to save the god awful Paris Fashion Week. But, even better, everyone is eager to see who will replace the late designer. Speculations pointed to Gareth Pugh and Olivier Theyskens. As if Theyskens can really do what McQueen did - we just all feel bad for him because he's unemployed. It looked like both the industry and the Gucci Group owner, PPR, all felt that Pugh had the potential to pull it off.

The Beginnings of Paris Fashion Week

The first two days of Paris Fashion Week are the most important, no? And as much as we want to take off our Marc Jacobs sunglasses to make a very clear statement about how we're not impressed, we won't, because 2 out of these 5 designers definitely made an attempt to design for the future, and not yesterday's financially stressed buyers. Can you guess who?

Anne Valerie Hash: Initially we thought this may have been an experiment gone wrong. But, after careful reevaluation, we began to fall in love with Anne's (can we call you Anne?) weird and twisted fascination with transparent organza-like fabrications, short trousers over, uh, feggings (abnormal fabric leggings?) and overlay heaven. Also, weren't the silver pointed brogue-style flats just killer? This isn't our first time seeing them during fashion month. Can they please stay forever?

Rihanna's Superbowl Looks

It's actually quite amusing to witness Rihanna donning Christian Siriano over Superbowl Weekend. Friday night, she hosted the Pepsi Refresh Project Kickoff Party at LIV Nightclub in Miami and welcomed NFL rookies wearing this strapless Christian Siriano dress and Jimmy Choo heels.

Christian Siriano and Superbowl weekend in the same sentence? Awkward. Typically, when we think of Rihanna's promotion of young designers, we easily expect her to dreadfully don her favorites - mainly Alexander Wang or Gareth Pugh - in some pretentious way.

Are You Ready For More Beyonce?

Reporting on Beyonce's next move isn't typically the most newsworthy of material - unless of course we're speaking on her Gareth Pugh mishaps - but, she's creating quite a buzz with her fragrance launch party, scheduled tonight in Union Square.

Although we've seen her face on plenty of other fragrances, we'll go along with the celebration surrounding Heat as if it's her first.

Apparently, the party is open to all, since my family, who visited over the weekend, also knew about the event via Macy's employees.

We're not saying whether or not we like the scent, so we'll leave that up to you, should you decide to attend.

The show will be at Union Square and 14th from 6pm to midnight with - wait for it - a light show.

How exciting!

Anticipation Arises Around Gareth Pugh

Bringing Gareth Pugh to New York Fashion Week is like buying your first pair of Manolo Blahniks—exhilarating, yet implausible.

Cosmetic company MAC has invited the Paris-based designer to debut his film this Sunday, September 13. Pugh tells Vogue that it “Will represent the essence of what the show this season is about, although it couldn’t be further from a trailer, it’s more of an abstract insight.”

Designer Profile: Gareth Pugh

Gareth Pugh’s road to the runway hasn’t been an easy one. A native of England, Pugh began his fashion career at the tender age of 14, working as a costume designer for the English National Youth Theatre. He earned a fashion design degree from Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in 2003 and has since moved to Paris to move his line forward. But before moving to Paris, Pugh worked out of a warehouse and was soon evicted. Hard work paid off when he won the ANDAM prize, which included a fiscal prize of 150,000 euro. The money allowed Pugh to show his RTW Spring 2009 collection in Paris.

Chicago's Stylish Streets

The spring issue of The New York Times T Style Mag features photographer Raymond Meier and model Natasa Vojnovic in the “City of Angels”. The future is now is Chicago where a “newfound vitality is fueling a boomlet in style and design”.

Chicago has been famous for it’s spectacular architecture since the Great Fire and the city’s rebuilding in 1871. Steel-frame skyscrapers, flat geometry and clean minimalism keeps the city at the cutting edge of architecture since its pioneering days. Although many may not attribute the same to Chicago’s fashion. What may have one been lost between the glamorous coasts is now found in this high end pictorial with city scenes from such well known Chicago stops as the stairs at West Wacker Drive, the Franklin-Orleans Bridge, South Franklin Street, Wabash Avenue, at the Lakefront by North Avenue Beach and the Quincy El train stop.
