GUCCI
Now that spring has officially sprung, we’ve turned our attention towards re-vamping our wardrobes for the warmer months. Along with pastel accessories, neon jeans, and peplum-adorned tops, one of the top items on our “Must Have List” this spring is a fabulous hat with a brim wide enough to shade our faces from the sure-to-happen blistering heat.
This straw fedora holds its shape wonderfully and has a wider brim than a standard-issue fedora. The red grosgrain ribbon is also a great, classic embellishment.
Frida Giannini, Creative Director for Gucci, has a soft spot for some of the world's least fortunate children, who face the challenges of hunger, lack of clean water, and a life of severe poverty in Africa. Not only does Frida Giannini work for one of the biggest fashion names in the world, she travels to Africa, devoting countless hours to helping impoverished children and other relief efforts through her partnership with UNICEF.
Gucci and UNICEF have been in a partnership since 2005. Since then, Gucci has donated over $12 million to the foundation for the prevention and research of HIV/AIDS and funding for improving the education system of Africa.
With Fashion Week here it’s likely that you’ve been thinking a little more about fashion and your own personal style. A great way to put a spring back into your step is to update your look with a few key wardrobe pieces such as a great statement blazer, a crisp white shirt, a fabulous black pencil skirt, a show-stopper dress or a flirty top that has special detailing!

No matter the occasion, red carpets, celebrities, and paparazzi never fails to bring us fabulous fashion we can revel in for days! The evening captured a theme of "classic elegance," says Nicole Richie, celebrity mentor on the upcoming series Fashion Star and famous boho beauty. Shining, shimmering, and showing some skin our favorite Hollywood bombshells lit up the event. Here are our nominees for Unparalleled Style in Best Golden Globe Fashion.
Lea Michele looked fabulous in this silver and sheer Marchesa gown. All of that choreographed dancing and singing has completely paid off in the form of an amazing body! To offset the elaborately embroidered design, Lea kept it simple with a classic updo, understated makeup (smokey eye, nude lip), and a bright emerald green cocktail ring.
Buying a nice bag can be tricky. There are those purses that can cost over $3000 and will break your bank account, and then there are totes that ring in at under $100 and will, well, just break period. So what’s a good budget when buying a nice bag? Our thinking is that you want to get something nice that will last (translation: over $200), but that doesn’t make your rent check bounce (yes, that’s happened). So, we’re thinking of spending no more than a grand. Good news: we scoured our fave designers' collections and found MANY amazing bags in this price range. See our picks below!
Oprah Winfrey and her production crew have given us a peek into the creative processes of some of the most talented individuals of our time with new documentary series Visionaries: Inside the Creative Mind. Among various industry professionals like Tyler Perry, Will.i.am, James Cameron, and Annie Lebovitz the latest subject is infamously private designer Tom Ford. Based on headlines, blogs, and magazines, you may think Tom Ford is simply a ready to wear designer; but after watching clips of his documentary, there is so much more behind the man in the suit. Tom Ford characterizes himself as a perfectionist and very secretive person, informing the camera crew he has never allowed anyone to film him so up and close before. Upon viewing documentary footage of Mr. Ford's everyday life, calling him a perfectionist is truly an understatement.
WGSN held their 2nd annual Global Fashion Awards honoring fashion elite from all over the world last night. The event was held at Gotham Hall in New York City and select attendees came in the masses for the black tie ceremony and dinner. The event was hosted by fashionisto and personality Robert Verdi and some of the notable attendees included Anna Sui, Peter Alexander, Charlotte Ronson, and Liam Gallagher. While the night was focused on who was winning what, one of the most exciting features of the night was who was wearing what. So let's get to what it was really all about --the fashion in the room! Of course everyone was dressed to the nines (as you can imagine), but here are a few major standouts that really made an impression.
The economic climate in recent years has broken down the spendthrift. These days even spendthrifts do less spending, and more thrifting. However, sometimes you just can't find what you need at the price you want. And that's ok, because some pieces are meant to be investments. Investment pieces are signature items of any wardrobe - rightfully termed and categorized as such for the practicality, durability, and timelessness of their nature. You can't put a price tag on quality like that, but when there is it's usually pretty high. Here are some big ticket investment pieces that we think actually are well worth the purchase.
Miuccia Prada never fails to impress us with her cohesive imagination in her collections. Last year’s Spring 2011 collection sent us reeling with delight as we watched the stripes and bananas promenade down the runway. This year Prada sent an equally, if not even more, desirable assortment of ready-to-wear and accessories down the runway that left us revving our engines. Seriously, those shoes have taillights! A perfect counterpart to the retro men’s collection, knee-length, pleated A-line and leather pencil skirts paired with midriff bearing bandeau tops were made for the seemingly innocent companion to the Prada man. We were most impressed by the silhouettes of the swimwear and dresses. Following the contour of a woman’s shape, Prada pieces together contrasting fabrics to emulate, in a much less literal way, the undeniable shape of a vintage hot rod. Flaming footwear and leather clutches with hot rod imagery complete the execution of the throwback to the 50s. Finished with lace and eyelet outwear in paled pink and blue, the collection certainly accomplished the “sweet” précis coined by Miuccia Prada herself.
