HARVARD SQUARE
I caught up with Amanda Maciel Antunes, owner of d.aMa design to ask her about where to go to find great gifts on a budget and what kinds of things make the best gifts. We took a tour of her most loved stores to find some covetable items perfect for giving.
What better way to kick off the new season than to stuff one's face with some of Boston's best cuisine? Make a stop at any of these culinary extravaganzas to get a heavy dose of fall flavor and fun:
1. Phantom Gourmet Food Festival
When: Saturday, Sept. 25th, 12-5 p.m. Where: Landsdowne and Ipswich St. next to Fenway Park Price: $40 in advance. Tickets will not be sold at the event.
Offering dishes from over 80 different restaurants in the Boston area, as well as free access to the Fenway bars, the entry price seems to be well worth it. Rumors of a mechanical bull and eating contests may make this Saturday more than just a party in the "pahk."
1. Boston Common and Public Garden
Since 1634, this 50 acre green was used for everything from grazing pastures and war protests to public hangings and once even served as a British camp. While it boasts a unique history, today it caters to every Bostonian's simple need for space. Whether its sunbathing in the summer, ice skating in the winter or just curling up with a good book next to the Duck Pond, the Common continues to be central in contributing to the enjoyment of the city and the well-being of its inhabitants.
2. Copley Square
There's no better place to experience the city's hustle and bustle. Attend one of the vibrant farmer's markets every Tuesday and Friday to pick up fresh goodies and meet some of Boston's friendliest residents, or simply grab a frozen lemonade and partake in the sport of people watching. In the Square, it's hard not feel like you're in the center of everything, because, well, you are.
Until a few weeks ago, Rialto was the only restaurant based at the gorgeous Charles Hotel without their own little outdoor spot for diners. Even dining indoors feels airy and natural. Now, in or outdoors, Rialto is the perfect setting to relax, settle in and feel at home, that is if your home is an exquisite villa in Italy with some of the best local ingredients prepared by an extremely talented chef.
Cheap comedy and chow mein: could a better combination exist?
Located on the 3rd floor of a Chinese restaurant, The Comedy Studio is one of Boston’s best-kept secrets. High above the bustle of Hong Kong Restaurant in Harvard Square exists Rick Jenkin’s masterpiece, a small dark room with a stage, bar, and tables, lit up by the fluorescent blinking eyes of a dragon mounted on the wall. Each night, 6 – 12 comedians, all ranging in ability, talent and gender, light up the stage for an audience mixed with familiar faces and new curious souls.
The Clover Food Truck, which started as a pre-restaurant test phase by a former MIT student, has quickly turned into a phenomenon, as more and more people discover its delicious and surprising little secret. Located in what was once the food desert of Kendall Square, it offers breakfast, lunch and dinner choices that are fast, cheap and, believe it or not, healthy. Hauling the majority of its ingredients from a farm share called FarmFresh Rhode Island, everything on board is fresh, local, vegetarian and usually organic.

The Harvard Lampoon boasts itself as the longest running humor magazine based on the English language. Along with the vast numbers of humorists who have gone on to careers in the comedic entertainment industry, the organization will occasionally honor those whom it finds worthy of being included in the notable ranks of humerati. The latest of these honorees is the controversial synth-glam maven Peaches, who will be honored in an induction ceremony tonight in the mysterious “Lampoon Castle” located just outside of Harvard Square in Cambridge, MA.
