HERALD SQUARE
If you have never been to New York City before, or are unfamiliar with our eclectic neighborhoods, take some time now to get familiar with what's where and who's going to be there. New Year's Eve is a great time to take in some culture and the party spans out well beyond the confines of Times Square.
Manhattan island is split up into three major sections: Uptown, Midtown, and Downtown. Doesn't give you much to go on does it? Let this be your whirlwind tour of the three major geographic locations in NYC.
Uptown:
New York is taking street style literally this summer. "Sidewalk Catwalk", which began yesterday and will run through Labor Day, is a public event that involves A-list designers putting dozens of mannequins on display in the middle of the Fashion District. The 32 designers participating in the massive street display include Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors, Diane von Furstenberg, Isaac Mizrahi, Jason Wu, Betsey Johnson, Kenneth Cole and many other local talents. The mannequins will be dressed in elaborate, artsy ensembles constructed with materials from the area in order to celebrate New York's Fashion District. Once the exhibit is over, all the mannequins and designs will be auctioned off and the proceeds will go to Materials for the Arts. The outdoor runway will be open to the viewing public on the pedestrian plazas along Broadway between Herald Square and Times Square and is expected to be a major tourist attraction this summer. Don't miss it!
