German Vogue: Minnie and Wonderland

Shot in California (but doesn’t it look like Africa?) early this year, photographer Mark Seilger shot model Chanel Iman as the trendy and stylish counter part of Mickey Mouse, better known as Minnie Mouse. Iman donned the famous mouse ears and sultry red lips to perfect the intended look. Styled by Madonna's long time stylist Arianne Phillips, Chanel Iman is seen in everything from polka dots to mouse printed dresses. Truth be told, this is the most enchanting Minnie Mouse I've ever seen.

Rosie Huntington's Edgy Shoot for Exit Magazine

Photographer James Meakin can turn any natural environment into a fashion wonderland. For this shoot, the expanse of the desert serves as ex-Victoria’s Secret model Rosie Huntingon’s playground as she strikes fierce pose after pose for Exit magazine.

The shoot is edgy at best, featuring an array of zippers and cutouts, bold shapes and a little bare boobage. We love the juxtaposition of the model and the intriguing geometric structures, showing off the architecture of the garments all while leaving you breathless at the beauty of Meakin’s work.

Scientific Glamour for Vogue China

Greg Kadel has long been renowned for his on-location photography, and his latest offering in Vogue China’s latest editorial Scientific Glamour is no exception. The stunning shoot, modeled by Eniko Mihalik, is based around the architectural designs of Frank Gehry, leaving us readers torn between what is more capitivating: the buildings or the clothes?

Brian Molloy’s styling for the shoot is spot on, with each ensemble expertly posed against one of Gehry’s backdrops to mirror it somehow in color, form or texture. The strict metallic palette of blues, greens, golds and greys, along with their highly constructed design, allow the clothes to fit seamlessly into their setting, without blending into the background. Intricate beading and metallic and high-shine fabrics, along with architectural shoulder-pads that soar past eye level, deforming Mihalik’s shoulders into threatening points, and hip widening designs (perhaps not one for us non-models to try at home…) all merge perfectly to create Kadel’s version of sci-fi meets high fashion.

Siren Call for Elle Magazine

One glance at the editorial Siren Call and you would be surprised that it was part of an American Publication. Elle Magazine and their amazing photographer Alexei Hay have produced this romantic shoot in the Audobon Terrace Historic District of New York City. Model Valeria Dmitrienko strikes poses invoking a sense of power, and other times inducing a state of lustful vulnerability. Dmitrienko is donned in garments of orange, red and black, embellished with furs and lush patterns. The looks also feature embellished clutches and elbow length gloves with indulgent textures.

The Spanish influence of the shoot is a dead giveaway. In one of the looks, Dmitrienko models outerwear that looks like a feminine update on a matador’s jacket, while continuously featured with bright red lipstick and curled hair. The location of the shoot was no accident either as Audoban Terrace contains a statue devoted to El Cid, a historical Spanish Hero.

The Wild Orchid for Vogue Nippon

It’s pretty hard to make a bouquet of flowers look high fashion and provocative, but somehow Mariacarla Boscono pulls it off. The Wild Orchid, photographed by Camilla Akrans for Vogue Nippon, is the epitome of decadence, from the rich velvet and silk fabrics to the Italian palazzo setting. The fashion story is interesting in its portrayal of the different sides of the female, from the suggestive, almost exposing, shots of Boscono sat in a gold foil mini dress with her legs spread and posed on a couch barely covered by draped silk and a large necklace, to the prim scene where the model is sat in a short, but demure, pink one-shoulder dress.

The juxtaposition of the feminine flowers with the edgier outfits like the leatherette minidress in the bathtub and embellished satin jumpsuit in the meditation shot works perfectly, while the dress worn in the nighttime statue scene with its train created by hundreds of layers of chiffon is breathtaking. I think Vogue Nippon have stumbled upon something brilliant by teaming Boscono and Akrans, let’s hope this is the start of a new fashion duo…

Lady Gaga dons the cover of V Magazine

Most people consider Lady Gaga to be just another fabricated pop diva; but we know better.

The editorial shots in this month’s issue of V Magazine were taken by photographer Sebastian Faena who has shot the likes Naomi, Jourdan, and Linda (yes, that’s Campbell, Dunn, and Evangelista) and feature Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta (no wonder she stuck to Gaga) in Marilyn Monroe meets space-aged dominatrix themed photos. Gaga dons one of her famous blonde wigs and an orbiting headpiece designed by Nasir Mazhar. Gaga puts on a much more daring pose (baring her breasts) than she did even for the iconic cover of Rolling Stone, where her entire body was covered only by well-placed transparent bubbles.

Model Breakdown: Caroline Trentini

Caroline Trentini was born on July 6th, 1987 in Rio Grande de Sul, Brazil. Caroline was brought up in a single parent home after the passing of her father and was unexpectedly discovered at the age of 13 while walking down the street. This was no ordinary occurrence because she was discovered by the same model scout that scooped up Gisele Bundchen, perhaps an omen of the enormous success Trentini would have in her later modeling career. The discovery sparked a move to the model town of Sao Paolo and eventually New York City where Trentini couldn’t speak English but was fluent in the language of modeling.

Iris Strubegger Brings A Touch Of Class to V Magazine

The latest issue of V magazine sees Iris Strubegger, better known as the face of Valentino, working the androdgynous look to perfection in this dark editorial.

Photographed by Willy Vanderperre, the Austrian model ignored the summer temperatures to preview Fall fashions including a fur coat and thigh-high rain boots topped off, bizarrely, by a pair of white fishnet tights over the top. The shoot, entitled A Touch of Class, is a high-fashion take on an aristocratic uniform mixing the masculine ‘hunter’ style of the rainboots and high-waisted pants with the glamour of the oversized shoulder pads and dress coats.

Bruce Willis and Emma Heming Model for W Magazine

Inside the July edition of W Magazine you will find actor, Bruce Willis, and new wife, model Emma Heming, in interesting positions. Photographed by Stephen Klein at The Standard Hotel in New York, both the actor and model let go of all inhibitions and showed their raw emotions. I don't know what to make of this editorial, but I like that Bruce Willis, who is in his early 50's and who is known as "a guy's guy," looks so vulerable in these photos. A few of the pictures are too risqué for my taste but, somehow they are shot in a classy fashion. In the article, the couple talks about why they married and what it's really like being one big family with his children, Demi and Ashton.
