Hi Joonbuggers!
A quick welcome to my new weekly column (and that was it if you missed it) and now lets get down to business.
And business it was last week especially for all the stores that participated in Fashion's Night Out, but more of that in a minute, first I want to talk about the sharp end of fashion week, the shows. I kicked off this season by taking a strut down to West Broadway to check out the new collection from Prince Peter, that cheeky little character talent who seems always to hang with the hippest and best looking people on the planet. As usual his show was full of great looking things draped in his designs and the liquor was free-flowing and plentiful which was a result for me because I then got a chance to eat it off by going in to see my old mate Kevin, the Maitre D at Balthazar which was, needless to say, filled to the brim as usual .
Remember when Gemma Ward traveled to NYC for her birthday and she was, well, fat?
And then, Gemma promised her return to fashion.
Apparently, an anonymous magazine-position tipster, is claiming Gemma's modeling days are over - due to the photogs ruining her brand at IMG.
IMG hasn't confirmed any details, though they turned down Gemma's appearance in Harper's Magazine the same month her 'fat' photos surfaced.
Model Sessilee Lopez came straight from Philly and has worked her way up into the world of fashion. Born in 1989, this 20-year-old is American born, but is of Dominican and Portuguese descent, giving her an extra flair that makes her an intriguing figure in the modeling industry.
For Sessliee, modeling was a strong desire but seemed a distant dream, in part because she growing up in a tough city, resulting in her tomboyish manner, but primarily because she suffered from the skin condition eczema when she was 12. In fact, skin seems to play a major role in the career of Sessilee because she is often cited as being an “African American model”—her Latina heritage is largely ignored simply because her skin is of a darker complexion.
Cosmetic company leader Maybelline in accordance with media giants IMG announced they are moving to a new location- Bryant Park. As previous sponsor MAC heads downtown to do fashion shows at New York’s Milk Studios, Maybelline will become the official cosmetic sponsor for IMG Fashion’s Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week, confirmed the New York Times on Thursday.
The cosmetics company inked a two-year deal, which will begin at the showing of designers’ spring collections in September 2009 through the much anticipated fashion week’s transition to Damrosch Park at the Lincoln Center in September 2010. The deal is an incredible platform for growth in the fashion industry for the company whose models include industry names such as Adriana Lima, Christy Turlington, and Jessica White.
CALLING ALL FASHIONISTAS! CALLING ALL FASHIONISTAS! One of my favorite seasons has approached and I am so excited! No, I’m not talking about summer; I’m speaking of fall haute couture season. For those of you who don't already know, haute couture (better known as couture) is French for "high dressmaking". It refers to the creation of exclusive custom-fitted clothing. Haute couture is made to order for a specific customer, and is constructed from high-quality fabric that is sewn with attention to detail. Twice a year (fall and spring), the fashion industry introduces the word to daring and imaginative collections. This season, fashion houses such as Christian Dior, Chanel, Armani Prive and Valentino (to name a few), are viewing past the current economic state and shelling out the big bucks for amazing quality.
Hilary St. Claire, better known as Hilary Rhoda, was born on April 6, 1987, in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Her modeling career began in 2004, when her mother took her to an open casting in Washington, D.C. Often compared to a young Brooke Shields, Rhoda is renowned for her heavy eyebrows and has graced the covers of Vogue, W, Dazed & Confused, British Harper’s Bazaar and French Elle, to name but a few.
21-year-old Australia native Gemma Ward has become a household name. She has appeared on runways, in fashion magazines and ad campaigns and even a few movies. Her start in the fashion world was not a planned one. She was discovered on Australian television show "Search for a Supermodel" that she didn’t even audition for in 2002. Despite this fact, she was scooped up by Vivian’s Model Agency and eventually signed with IMG in 2003.
Her debut in September of 2003 at the Prada show in Milan took everyone’s notice and lead her to be named one of nine "It Girls” by American Vogue.
The Jean Shop
Well I have a favorite belt, yes I’m blogging about a belt. I’ve had this belt since college and trust me that was many many years ago. Anyway, The belt is worn in just right. It's a dark brown heavy leather belt which has been worn to a point where the belt now looks light brown and weathered. It's just beautiful and perfect. The problem is, it's torn in the back and now my lovely belt needs a replacement.
I was at the Apple store on 14th street and walked the block for a cab and passed by the Jean Shop. This place is amazing. Jeans and jackets hang on the wall in all shades of leather and denim, belts and shoes in display everywhere. They offer any style, color, wash - whatever you like in jeans.
Chanel’s Paris/Moscow pre-fall ready-to-wear collection incorporates elements of imperial Russia and Russian folklore. The fashion house’s couture ateliers have once again created a luxury collection that stands out from the previous while keeping in form with the Chanel name. Photographed by Karl Lagerfeld himself, Sasha Pivovarova (IMG) is the face of the campaign, and we are not surprised by the designer’s choice. While the clothing remains a staple, the accessories speak for themselves – shining through each picture as their own shining statement. Below, check out the House of Chanel’s Paris/Moscow accessory video:
