Faves of London Fashion Week: Clements Ribeiro

Husband and wife design team Clements Ribeiro have once again defied the old adage love and business shouldn't mix with their Autumn/Winter 12 collection. The couple, who met while studying at Central St. Martin's and went on to form their eponymous label in the early '90s, stayed true to their femininity but this time showing a tougher side with leather.

The show was held in the ornate Goldsmith's Hall, which with its gilded mirrors and crystal chandeliers was the perfect juxtaposition to the punk feel of the collection. Models wore disheveled chignons held back by turban styled headbands and aces were dewy and fresh tainted only by a brilliant hot pink lip to match their spike heeled Jimmy Choos.

Duty Free Discount Offers Designer Brands for Less

If you love designer bags, shoes, and accessories, a new boutique has come to Chelsea called DF Discount. As covered in Time Out NY, the boutique offers in-season designer goods from Prada, Fendi, Tod's, Burberry, Jimmy Choo, Balenciaga, Dolce & Gabbana, and more. Savings average about 20% off what you would normally pay. We were a little confused as to how this was possible --we always assumed we had to pay full retail for our designer goods! According to the owner, all items are 100% authentic and the key to their business is that they import their goods "duty-free" from overseas in small quantities, passing the savings on to their customers (which apparently includes celebs in-the-know). As described on their site: "We travel throughout Europe to bring you current authentic merchandise from top highend designers. We keep our over head low so we can offer you the lowest price possible. Visit us often as new styles are always arriving."

And more news that makes our hearts melt—not only will the Marni for H&M collection include apparel and jewelry, shoes and menswear will debut as well.

Hunter Boots, Now Hunter Handbags?

Hunter boots will be expanding its popular line of iconic rubber rain boots into new product arenas in 2012. A longtime favorite of Brits, Hunter “wellies” (after the first Duke of Wellington, who modified the original design in the 19th century) recently sold a controlling stake of the company to U.S. private equity company Searchlight Capital Partners. The sale marks the first time in the brands 150-year history that the owners will not be British.

Hunter boots have been a staple of British farm life since World War I. While the Argyll style remains
popular for those who rely on wellies for everyday wear, the knee-high Hunter green welly is the most popular version of the boot. Spotted on aristocracy, supermodels and movie stars the Hunter green welly is synonymous with a stylish escape to the countryside. In 2009, Jimmy Choo and Hunter worked together to release a limited-edition version of the boot, in black crocodile print with leopard lining. At Joonbug, we wear our wellies in a variety of colors but our favorite is the bright red knee-high – it really is just perfect for remaining chic and dry while stomping through snow and mud.

Jimmy Choo's Sweet 15

Although Jimmy Choo has been designing and making shoes for over three decades now, the iconic brand, co-founded with British Vogue accessories editor Tamara Mellon, wasn't officially started until 1996. In honor of the its past 15 years, Jimmy Choo Ltd held an exhibition featuring 15 of its best selling shoe designs in a pop-up store inside Paris retailer Le Bon Marché.

The exhibit, which opened Wednesday, has the vintage shoe designs on display safely in glass cases. In addition to the 15 commemorated designs, customers can also view a capsule collection dubbed "Icons" that was inspired by the vintage pieces. "Icons" includes famous designs like the Sex and the City "Feather" shoe that Carrie famously lost in an early episode, and ‘Fleur’, a pair of striped heels Tamara Mellon wore when she met the queen. Customers will also be able to flip through electronic copies of the commemorative book "Jimmy Choo XV," that tells the companies history through the featured 15 on iPads.

The pop-up exhibit will be available for viewing until December 31st this year.

Lost In Space

They say fashion trends are cyclical, but the reappearance of this fad is even more surprising than the return of 80’s fashion! Behold, the Moon Boot. Maybe it was Russia’s announcement of the upcoming Space Hotel; whatever it is, outer space is in again.

7 years ago, in 2004, The New York Times declared this puffy footwear as the next big thing. That same year, Marc Jacobs sold over 9000 pairs, but they then went out of style as quickly as they came in, disappearing from collections and wardrobes alike.

This season, fashion giants Jimmy Choo and Chloe are both offering pricey options for those willing to give the look a second go. Jimmy Choo’s come in a variety of colors, ranging from black to leopard print and will run you a whopping $695. While Chloe offers fewer choices, with only two types of shearling, they retail for a comparatively reasonable $525.

West Village Goes CooCoo for Choo

Yesterday, Jimmy Choo opened the doors of their new West Village location. The new store, a landmarked townhouse on Bleeker St., now makes for 3 freestanding Jimmy Choo stores in the City. After much time spent searching for the perfect spot, Jimmy Choo CEO Joshua Schulman told WWD that they finally decided on this spot because it encompassed all the "charm of the West Village while still feeling very on brand".
