KINGS OF LEON
The Kings of Leon reputation has been put on the line.
After cancelling a number of shows this year for reasons ranging from bird poop to workout-related injuries to non-lethal fires, Kings of Leon is now giving fans another reason to question whether these guys are actually rock stars or just divas in leather jackets.
Had a good time at Coachella this year? Or were you shunned at the door (or your computer interface) because there wasn't enough space? Better yet, did you fork over five to six hundred dollars to some secondary website for a 3-day pass?
If you answered, 'Yes', to any of these questions than you'll be excited for what Goldenvoice and the festivals founder/producer, Paul Tollett, have in store for you.
On May 12, Caleb became the third member of Kings Of Leon to tie the knot to his girlfriend of four years, Lily Aldridge. The couple met at Coachella in 2007, when Kings Of Leon performed at the festival for the first time, with the front man finally popping the question in Fall 2010.
The ceremony took place in Montecito, CA with an extra daytime reception being held in Malibu the Saturday after. Lily wore a strapless Vera Wang dress whilst Caleb went for a classic Gucci suit.
The actual wedding date came as somewhat of a surprise for Caleb, with the rock-country crooner saying that he had idea when it was taking place, "You'll have to ask Lily about the wedding date. She won't tell me. I think it's somewhere between May 10 and May 20, but she won't tell me because I have a big mouth!"
Kings of Leon have announced the 29 day tour throughout the United States.
The band's planned tour dates in South Africa and Australian were foiled when drummer Nathan Followill had surgery to repair a torn labrum and bicep.
The Kings of Leon announced performed at Coachella and are going to tour in Europe in May.
Summer Tour Dates:
Kings of Leon are currently at the top of their game. The group are five albums deep, with continuous sell-out performances and a hoard of dedicated fans that worship the ground they walk on. More recently, however, there have been less than favorable reports surrounding the group due to the absurd Glee debacle, along with a series of web forums that seem intent on picking them apart for simply for being successful.
Talihina Sky: The Story Of Kings Of Leon is debuting at the right time. Exposing their humble upbringing it seeks to remind critics that the band were not always the super successful rock group that they are today. The documentary shows an array of home footage collected over a several year span that follows the band from their modest beginnings in a small hick town in Oklahoma, right through to their present day success.
'”If you leave you can never come back.”
Caleb says these words of their father still haunts him and his brothers till this day. However the Followill brothers - and one cousin, Matthew - of Kings of Leon knew, that the choice to leave the church to pursue a music career laid solely on their shoulders. Like the saying be careful what you wish for warns; Caleb, Nathan, Jared and Matthew got exceedingly and abundantly more than their hearts could imagine. The tradeoff, a critical reception and warning of eternal damnation from their father.
Over 100,000 pairs of dusty feet trampled through the Californian desert this weekend for the twelfth annual Coachella Music and Arts festival at the Empire Polo Field in Indio, CA. The sun shone brightly on the event as the temperatures reached the high nineties, with excited attendees showing their dedication for the frivolities by braving the baking heat over the course of the weekend.
Recently receiving international acclaim from the press, Coachella was host to a vast array of nationalities and personalities. A large proportion of Brits and Aussies flew in, while Hollywood actors Danny DeVito, Lindsay Lohan, Leonardo DiCaprio and Ashley Greene were all caught dancing along at some point. Sightings of Kelly Osbourne, Katy Perry and Paris Hilton were also recorded. R&B star, Rihanna, was in attendance, accompanied by a huge entourage of bodyguards and was quoted saying Arcade Fire "blew my fucking mind" after she saw them headline on the second day of the event.
Released this morning, the trailer for Talihina Sky: The Story of Kings of Leon previews the familial and religious origins of the band's four Nashville-native members - brothers Caleb, Nathan, and Jared Followill and cousin Matthew Followill - as depicted by the film's director Stephen C. Mitchell.
The documentary follows the Followills' progressive rise to rock 'n' roll fame and their recent, somewhat volatile social position in the media. Including tour footage, southern imagery, interviews with the brothers' parents and the band members themselves, and childhood home videos, Talihina Sky (referring to the town Talihina in Oaklahoma) focuses on the Followills' youth as Christian boys in Tennessee. The film examines how their early years influenced, and continue to influence, their current status as a mainstream rock band.
For the past two years, Glee has quickly emerged as a top-tier television show. Winning numerous awards, and accolades, the show is still going strong since its airing in 2009.
One major reason why the show is such a hit, is because of the performances by the students in the high school's glee club. Popular songs such as, "Don't Stop Believing," "Take A Bow," Somebody To Love," and more, have been performed on the show.
But, just because it's a popular show among the masses, doesn't mean that everyone enjoys the show. Slash, the current guitarist of Velvet Revolver, and Guns n' Roses, recently said, "Glee is worse than Grease and Grease is bad enough." This was said after he declined the show to use a Guns n' Roses song in one of their episodes.
The 2011 Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival is only a few months away. The fun starts on Friday, April 15th, and finishes up on Sunday, April 17th.
