L.A.M.B
It just happened that my first experience dining at Pierre Loti Wine Bar was shared with a group of people I had just met. And for such an intimate spot, with candles illuminating the exposed brick walls and the slightly cramped tables which caused me to virtually rub shoulders with my neighbors, I got to know everyone pretty well.
The menu is inspired by Mediterranean flavors, including the favorite grilled halloumi cheese served with a frisee salad of dried Turkish apricots and cherry tomatoes. The burger patties with grounded lamb, pine nut, black currents and walnuts were a lovely little starter for the other meat items on the menu including grilled lamb chops, poached beef dumplings (that everyone at the table couldn’t stop forking at), soft marinated baby lamb ribs, and the delicate cornish hen.
While ready-to-wear often steals the spotlight, we’d be making a big mistake not to give some special attention to the fresh beauty trends that graced the runway last week. With as much presence as the covetable clothing, New York Fashion Week’s Fall 2012 season brought us an assortment of hair and makeup looks that inspire our beauty routines as much as the collections inspired our wardrobes. From voluminous, airy updos to nail art we’ll be taking to the salon, here are the best and brightest beauty highlights from backstage to the catwalk. (Hint: keep those tweezers at bay—bushy eyebrows aren’t going anywhere!)
Gwen Stefani’s looks are always a little Betsey Johnson-esque with the quirky styles and patterns. Her fall ’12 collection showed a great representation of the No Doubt singer’s true rock ‘n roll colors.
There were the classy pieces and then there were the crazy pieces in this collection. However, the biggest (literally) part of the line that stuck out was the oversized houdstooth print mixed with black, as well as neon yellow and bright red to help create an edginess to an otherwise prep-school girl style. We really enjoyed the use of light check patterns and plaid mixed with black and white color blocking and exposed white shirt collars. All of this gave the looks a little bit of retro flare along with the big, beehive hair-dos and over-exaggerated side parts.
Nivea Unveils Launch of New Years Eve "Kiss of a Lifetime" Contest! New Years Eve is perhaps one of the most celebrated evenings in all of New York City and everyone knows that Joonbug.com is the resource for the most detailed, up-to-the minute and sizzling-hot information regarding the hottest & hippest New Years celebrations and soirees. When I heard about this new interactive, exciting and romantic contest, I just had to share it with the 'Glam Damn It' readers. After all, this sparkling night is all about that magical kiss as the ball drops over the city that never sleeps (in addition, the prizes are quite amazing).
True to Gwen Stefani's funky, eclectic style, L.A.M.B S/S 2012 brought us a wide array of patterns, textures and color. Moving away from the expected color-blocking Stefani, as usual, does her own thing --and we love it!
Fun tribal, animal patterns, mixed with layers and texture made the collection multi-dimensional and unique. She also gave us a huge range of pieces to choose from. From skirts to onesies, to shorts and beyond, this collection has it all. The pieces were mismatched --in a good way! One could buy only her collection for the entire season and wear a different look everyday, that's how versatile her collection is. Gwen was also not afraid to use plenty of dark colors. We love the quilted leather jackets, which are usually reserved for Fall collections. This is a line that is so diverse, you could wear it from spring to winter with no problem. Talk about fashion efficiency! Bravo to Gwen for another season of fun, funky style.
When Debra Silverstein won the aldermanic runoff for Chicago's 50th ward, she thanked supporters the next day outside City Fresh Market, at 3201 W. Devon Ave. It was an appropriate gesture, considering that the 50th ward is one of the most ethnically diverse in Chicago, and City Fresh is one of the most diverse grocery stores in town.
The market specializes in Eastern European imports, but offers Mediterranean delicacies, fresh meat, produce, housemade baked goods, cheeses, wine, honeys, and even Kosher, Asian and Hispanic specialties that cannot be found elsewhere in Chicago. Hand-painted murals depicting different regions of the globe cover the walls and ceilings, reinforcing the store's international flair.
We have something to tell you.... We are shoe addicts! So attending the Transit LA shoe show, part of the LA Fashion Market was a bit of a dream come true for us at Joonbug. The huge space in the California Market Centre in Downtown LA was packed to the rafters with shoes in a multitude of heights, materials, textures and colors.
Matiko showed a huge variety of shoes in very 'now' trends. A pair of wedges had a fantastic 70's style 'T 'bar which would look amazing teamed with flared jeans. Another wedged pair came in a choice of tan or white and had a chunky ankle buckle detail: Great for those who like to make a ‘shout out loud’s tatement with their shoes. High heeled pumps, came with open toes, back zips and shoelace details for a touch of evening glamour.
"Simply Delicious" is the two word motto at the top of this establishment's menu and it is more than suitable. I add to that; 'tiny treasure' and 'pleasant surprise'. Picture a small treasure chest with no glitz, glam or faux bedazzling and contemplate opening, decide to go for it and imagine the feeling of awe and excitement when rays of golden light burst out, what a pleasant surprise! This is the experience your palette will have at Keese's.
There are dozens of American-Mediterranean Grill, Window shop, dine in/ take out/ delivery spots on the Beach, but this one stands above average. Why? The variety, quality and freshness of flavors are presented with pure passion and TLC. Every single ingredient pops out and commands attention and the attention is more than justifiable. The freshness is as crisp as if just harvested, squeezed or caught.
Deep within the heart of Brooklyn Heights lies Waterfalls Cafe: a retreat for all New Yorkers fervently seeking a divine sense of euphoria, refreshment and exquisite taste from their food, without exhausting their wallet.
Waterfalls consistently defies all rules:
-it's fast, but good
-It's good, but cheap
-It's cheap, but delicious and
-it's delicious, but nutritious!
Enriched with grains, chickpeas, lentils and leafy greens, Waterfalls' cuisine liberates that boundlessly energetic and healthy person in all of us who's been encased in a vat of cookies and pasta since the December holidays.
I'm not sure exactly where to start. I haven't written in a long time, and I am not sure why. It definitely isn't due to a lack of things happening. I haven't fallen into a pit of self-loathing or been sitting at home for days on end watching Rock Of Love reruns on VH1 while testing out various kinds of microwave popcorn, convinced the next one may really taste exactly like Movie Theater Popcorn...ok well the second scenario may have been true, but alas, I just haven't been inspired to write.
They say some things are better left to memory, and while I wish I could say this was the reasoning behind my absence, those that know me, and how many pictures I like to take, will call my bluff. So yeah, this blog could just be the ramblings of another flight to Los Angeles with nothing to do but try and stretch in a cramped seat and read countless gossip mags about Kim Kardashian's new bikini body and her diet secrets. If there is one thing I have learned from my years of pitiful airport consumption of trashy tabloids, it is that no diet secret actually exists and that cellulite is simply genetic. So here is Lindsay Luv's secret to dieting, one that I rarely adhere to yet feel is foolproof in theory: Stop EATING Everything. It truly is that simple. A colonic is a just an especially big shit, and diet pills are a just fancy speed. If your heart is faster than a speeding bullet or your shit is on fire, then chances are you will either die from a heart attack or sheer embarrassment.
