Rest in Peace to the Queen of Prep

Lilly Pulitzer's fashion empire confirmed the death this week of the beloved 81-year old fashion designer. Pulitzer passed away on Sunday, April 7th at her Florida home. The socialite turned fashion designer was known for her preppy, bright, and stand-out tropical prints. Always featuring bright colors and using fruits and plants as a print landed her the title "Queen of Prep."

Besides the infamous women's collections, Pulitzer produces a strong line for children, men's clothing, shoes, jewelry, swimwear, bedding, pajamas, stationary, and even maternity clothes. Most recently in 2010, Pulitzer released a bridal collection. Each design ever created is the epitome of prep. "We focus on the best, fun, and happy things, and people want that," explained Pulitzer. "Being happy never goes out of style." This can account for the reason why she often channeled lime green and bright pinks into a majority of her designs.

The Red Stiletto Strut

With Miami Fashion Week coming up, we've been getting a bit antsy with anticipation. Instead of sitting around and counting the days until our fashion cravings will finally be satisfied, we decided to see what else was going on in the South Florida fashion world in the mean time. That's when we heard about The Red Stiletto Strut--a fashion fundraiser for the awareness of women and heart disease. Not only would the event give us an excuse to strap on our devilish red pumps, but a red shoe bar and fashion presentation all for a good cause? Yes, please. From raffle prizes that almost seemed too good to be true, to tasty hors d’oevres courtesy of Blue Martini and Piñon Grill, The Red Stiletto Strut squeezed some much needed fashion into our February.

Celebrity Clothing for a Cause

Gwyneth Paltrow, who recently announced that she is coming out with a clothing line, is designing even more clothes—but this time, it’s for a cause.

The Golden Globe winning actress and fashion icon has created a limited-edition bikini for Lilly Pulitzer’s A Colorful Cause: Celebrity Designer Program. The project celebrates the Palm Beach retailer’s 50th anniversary by raising money for the Epidemolysis Bullosa Medican Research Foundation.

Eight other celebrities have signed on, including Brooke Sheilds, Debra Messing, Marcia Cross, Angie Harmon, Bridget Moynahan, Catherine Bell, Elisabeth Hasselbeck, and Garcelle Beauvais-Nilson. The stars will design limited-edition mommy-and-me clothing for both daughters and sons that will be available for purchase in April.
