Jennifer Hudson Shines at Lucky Shops Event

Who has been naughty? Who has been nice? Regardless, you more than likely need to check-off everyone deserving on your holiday to-do list! We were among a bevvy of fashionable ladies last night on Mercer Street in Soho, NYC to kick-off the season's shopping festivities and meet the lovely Jennifer Hudson. Hudson, the current cover model in the January 2013 cover of Lucky Magazine was on hand to chat with media and fashionable shoppers a-like! In the January issue, she opens up candidly about her dietary needs, her new QVC line and much more. She also talks about her weight loss and having fun when dressing up! Last night, the Lucky Shops event kicked off a 3-day shopping extravaganza where the women of NYC will enjoy special discounts from stylish vendors. Some of our favorites were the vibrant-chic dresses at Hunter Dixon (silky and give you enough room to enjoy a holiday feast), Jewelry by Jane Basch (monogram pieces favored by Gwen Stefani) and the Maybelline run-way photo op (where you received a complimentary make-over and photo-shoot). Tasty cupcakes by Baked by Melissa were served by handsome waiters and tasty 'smores treats topped off a fabulous soiree that featured roughly fifty designers including names such as; Rebecca Minkoff, Foley & Corinna and Jill Stuart. Jeweler to the Stars: Jane Basch
We checked in with celebrity Jeweler Jane Basch to see what styles she recommends for the upcoming Fall/Winter 2012 season. The great aspect to Jane’s jewelry is that even though many of your favorite celebrities such as Christina Applegate, Nelly Furtado, Carly Rae Jepsen and the sultry Fernanda Romera (to recently name a few) enjoy wearing Jane’s monogram designs – they are priced as such so that every woman (or man) can own a special accessory piece with his or her initials! There is most definitely a feel-good aspect to Jane’s handcrafted designs — who doesn’t feel special wearing a jewelry piece that is made just for them and showcases your name or initials in a fashionable way. We also heard that Jane is offering price breaks on her most popular pieces in Lucky Magazine – so be sure to check out how you can get your very own personalized piece of jewelry at 40% off (see bottom, right) which she wanted to share with the Joonbug readers! The colder months are the perfect time to add some interest to your otherwise boring black ensemble by layering necklaces, just like Ashley Tisdale did with her Jane Basch jewelry. I think many are drawn to the diversity of my jewelry designs," says Basch. "From rockers like Nelly Furtado, young ladies such as Ashley Tisdale, teenagers, mothers, executives -- everyone can feel proud to wear one of my handmade pieces. This collection is a life-style collection, meaning you can wear every single style of jewelry featured on the Jane Basch site to a chic gala or with jeans. I wanted to create a growing collection that consumers of all ages and all occupations can enjoy. Celebrities also seem to like my designs, but they are indeed designed for everyone." Recently featured in “Martha Stewart Weddings” Jane always has her fashionable pulse on what’s new and exciting in the jewelry industry. Her script monogram necklace was featured in this month’s Martha Stewart Weddings Style issue. The magazine’s editorial director Darcy Miller recommends giving personalized jewelry to your groom, mother or maid of honor as a token of your love and appreciation. Who would you give personalized jewelry to on your special day? It certainly is a memorable way to celebrate your wedding and give thanks to your wedding party. I recently had the opportunity to preview Jane Basch’s line for men. The pieces are distinguished and make the ideal gift for a wedding party member, groom, birthday, holiday gift or a “just because” token. The details on these sterling silver cuff-links are truly impressive and designed in a one-of-a-kind way that only Jane Basch has perfected. Jane's personal fall fashion recommendation: Be bold this fall and embrace mixing bright colors. Wear our Gemstone Bracelet in Blue Lapis for a fun pop or color!

Jewelry Designer to the Stars: Jane Basch

The right accessories will definitely make your ensemble stand-out from the fashionable crowd; and many of us look to our favorite celebrities for style inspiration. A designer that's taking the jewelry scene by storm is Jane Basch. It was especially fabulous to see one of Jane’s special designs on Entertainment Tonite worn by the beautiful Samantha Harris! Jane’s designs have also been worn by ‘hot’ celebrities such as Christina Applegate, Ashley Tisdale, Demi Moore, Debra Messing and featured in many top fashion magazines such as Lucky! The wonderful aspect to Jane’s jewelry is that you need not be a celebrity to enjoy your very own custom-created Jane Basch jewelry piece because all of her collections are priced well with impeccable craftsmanship (or should I say crafts-womanship).

Financial recruiter Taylor, dresses in a simple cream dress and matches it with the now-in striped cardigan. Creative direct and stylist Lauren, accessorizes her dress with black leggings, spring scarf, black cardigan with a headpiece and the everyday brown messenger bag.

Fashion + Weather = Feather Report

Melisa Russo is founder and head stylist of Feather Report, an iPhone app and fashion blog that offer daily forecasts and style suggestions to women across the country. If you've ever checked the forecast and wished the weatherman would just tell you what to wear, Feather Report is for you. Launched in January 2009 to a New York City readership, featherreport.blogspot.com quickly grew to include a nationwide fan base. Realizing the potential for a weather-based fashion application, Melisa connected with Medl Mobile to discuss plans for an iPhone application that would take Feather Report to the next level. In September 2009, the Feather Report iPhone app, which delivers your daily weather forecast along with a customized outfit suggestion, was born. You can search for outfits based on your body type, weather, and occasion; shop items directly from your phone; and get forecasts for any city across the country. So, let's say you're a Curvy Cathy heading to Happy Hour and Baby, It's Cold Outside. Feather Report serves up five outfits that match your criteria. You'll even get an umbrella alert if the forecast calls for rain or snow. It's like a stylist in your pocket.

Boutique Crawl 2009

This Thursday, September 24th, marks the first ever Lucky Magazine Boutique Crawl. 24 stores located up and down Bleeker Street are participating in the event, ensuring a shopper’s paradise complete with discounts, drinks, snacks, and live music.

Lucky editors and stylists will be sprinkled throughout the shops for your convenience, ready to give tips and spread style, while photo shoots set up at Juicy Couture and Olive and Bette’s will be ready to spot style (i.e.: leave the sweatpants at home, it’s not that kind of shopping trip).

Get 30% at Steve by Steve Madden, 20% off 7 For All Mankind jeans, and 10% off Cynthia Rowley creations. On top of all the discounts being offered, Lucky Bucks can knock even more dollars off the price of those Juicy Couture boots. A Lucky Bucks coupon will save you $50 off your $200 Juicy bill and an extra $20 at Tommy Hilfiger.

Reiss will be offering 20% discounts, serving cocktails, and housing Lucky editors ready to style you. And that MZ Wallace bag you’ve been thinking about lately? Or maybe that LuLu Guinness snakeskin clutch? Both shops will be serving up champagne while offering 20% discounts throughout the store.

Shopping make you hungry? Stop by Bond No.9 for a 10% discount and Magnolia cupcakes, or head towards the Van Leeuwen Artisan ice cream truck for free ice cream. Shopping make you sleepy? Grab an energy cocktail at Verve, where accessories will be 15% off.

And if you need to make some room in your tiny NYC closet after all that shopping, stop by Housing Works thrift shop and donate your vintage designer pieces for a free gift.

Check out the map for a full listing of participating stores, as well as promotional details. The event runs from 6pm until 9pm and I recommend you get there as early as possible, for obvious reasons.
