MANHATTAN COCKTAIL CLASSIC
Part festival, part fête, part conference, and part 5-day cocktail party the 4th Annual Manhattan Cocktail Classic is a “celebration of the myriad points of intersection between cocktails and culture.” Tickets for one of the most sought out events in the city go on sale this afternoon at noon. The multi-day celebration of cocktails and culture is held throughout the city at the most renowned watering holes, across three boroughs. From May 17-21, cocktail and spirit enthusiasts will revel at dozens of events including boozy brunches, spirited soirees, bar crawls, bus tours, punch parties, and a three-day trade conference for industry professionals.
The craft beer revolution has been making major waves in the bar and restaurant world for over a decade but what about the small, craft distilleries that create fine, handcrafted spirits? We’re talking about the small batch bourbons, vodkas, mezcal and other liqueurs being made by dedicated craftsmen and craftwomen. These operations aren’t bootleggers using bathtubs or a makeshift still deep in the woods but rather expert artisans creating unique spirits…legally.
The Indie Spirits Expo, a part of the Manhattan Cocktail Classic, is dedicated completely to these small batch operations. You won’t find Bacardi at this event and it’ll make you reconsider your drink choice the next time you order a cocktail. Joonbug attended the expo, held at Crimson nightclub, on Tuesday. We learned a ton about the process, ingredients, history, and some very interesting people while at the event. Below you’ll find some of our favorite spirits we sampled along with some of their cocktail recipes for your drinking pleasure.
The Manhattan Cocktail Classic is back, taking place May 13-17 at various locations throughout the city. Sip your way from bar to bar, learning about your favorite cocktails and chatting with the city's famous bartenders. There's even an '80s themed cocktail party. But don't wait to purchase your tickets. Several events are already sold out, including The Gala. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit ManhattanCocktailClassic.com.
