MGMT
In Los Angeles it's hard to cypher through the talented and the unfortunately talentless. Everyone claims to have the skills to make it to the big time, but let's be honest, in this day and age everyone thinks they can DJ. This is not the case for LA's newest young talent Agendas, who is a producer/ singer/ drummer/ guitarist/etc. The artist, formerly known as Jake Weary, has proven through his eclectic and exciting sound that he is a truly talented musician. Hailing from Montclair, New Jersey, Agendas has been working hard to produce top notch tunes. He released his self titled EP in April 2011. Yes, he is from New Jersey but before your mind wanders to the Jersey Shore buffoons, think twice, you won't be seeing a bundle of Bros obnoxiously fist pumping on the dance floor. This artist keeps his beats classy.
Straight from the minor leagues into the big game, Foster the People took us all by storm with their mellow dance sensation, “Pumped Up Kicks”. To no surprise, that song gave them the boost the People needed to hit #1 on Billboard’s Alternative Songs chart and #3 on the aforementioned Rock Songs chart. With the waves they've made, it's hard to believe Foster played their first show in 2009.
Round Two: With the rise of their debut LP, Torches, the rapidly ascending Foster the People have released a second video directed by famed, Ace Norton (LCD Soundsystem, “Big Ideas”; Santogold, “Creator”; Deah Cab’s, “You Will Be Loved” to name a few).
I've always wondered what famous artists do listen at home, or while driving their Escalade. You probably know that a lot of people who work on TV don't actually watch it at home. I was also curious to see if my favorite artists shared my tastes. I was astonished to see that Chris Martin from Coldplay could actually be able to listen some good sh!t (hate Coldplay).
You have here fifty different artists ready to share their Top 10 songs on one theme they care about. Wanna know what MGTM's 10 best psychedelic songs are ? Are you curious to see what king of blues does Mick Jagger listen at home ? I find that pretty entertaining.
Today I got some steady rocking grooves for ya’ll. Some hard hitting Tech-Funk beats to a soulful Indie rock ballad. You guys are going to love this one, This being my first post I thought I would treat you to my life story in the form of other peoples music.
First off… PLEASUREKRAFT!
It’s been 10 years since Green Velvet released the original La La Land. The track is now considered to be a classic in the club scene and with Pleasurekraft’s “Sideshow” Remix it has made a hell of a comeback.
A sideshow it is, This track will get you jumping up in your seat asking for more while making you ask yourself if you are on an intense acid trip. Don’t worry, you are completely sane! You are just experiencing the intense vocoded funk that is Kalle Ronngardh & Kaveh Soroush AKA Pleasurekraft.
The Sunday Snapshot:
The festival set-up, sound and acoustics, as well as operations were extremely professional. It's obvious they have done this before. I loved how they had two stages by each other with back-to-back shows. I parked it at the Budweiser/Playstation stages for most of the weekend due to the line up, but it was incredible to see 10,000 people stacked to see the headliners on the BMI stage. Kudos Lolla.
Sunday Musical Delights & Awards:
Chiddy Bang: Award for Band Best Listened on a CD. I was personally pumped to see Chiddy play. My friends produce their music videos and I have been rocking to their cool remixes/raps for a bit now. Think, Girl Talk meets Drake for their vibe. I was sadly disappointed in the live bit, but I still like them a lot. But the electronic Perry’s stage was a sick addition to the festival. We would be visiting again.

Here is what we loved most about Saturday at Lollapalooza 2010. I wish I was still there!
In addition to the green scene at Grant Park, there were some really cool sponsorship and brand presence situations in the mix. Toyota was giving away cold bandanas and headbands (much needed with the hot temperatures). They always had a line to their tent, which I’m sure got them some good exposure. Another great sponsor was the water filling stations; I know I spent a lot of time here. AOL provided free WiFi, for those of us working during the festival, this was clutch. A fun one was the Q101 Hammock Station, where you could actually take a break and lay in the hammocks for a bit. It’s always enjoyable to see brands and companies giving out products and services that are super beneficial to the festival goer. Giving a consumer something they can really use during the weekend is really going to stand out for marketing purposes.
Completely pumped for this festival, Lollapalooza managed to blow me away. Not only with the talent they had this year, but as an event planner, I was even more impressed with the set-up and operations they had in place. If you missed our live Tweets from the festival here are some tasty tidbits from the weekend. Catch us tomorrow for Saturday's recap:
Friday:
We arrived in Chicago around 7am from New York, took a nap, and proceeded to the event around 4pm. Other than grabbing my media pass (which was like a mile away from the entrance) I was immediately impressed.

Fans of electro-indie music, (all 4 of you [I kid]) you're in luck because two of the genre's most popular acts are making stops in the Los Angeles area next week. La Roux will be at Club Nokia on June 15 followed by MGMT at The Fox Theater Pomona on June 18.
MGMT recently released their second album Congratulations, in April, after making waves with their 2008 debut Oracular Spectacular. La Roux has become the latest indie "it girl" with her chart-topping single "Bulletproof" and her Flock of Seagulls hairstyle.
