Rage On: Your WMC Opening Day Party Guide

March is upon us, and for electronic music fans in Miami, this month beats out Christmas for the most wonderful time of the year. Because not only does March conclude with the largest dance music festival in the country, but each day leading up to Ultra is also equally rage-worthy.

Miami boasts top electronic acts year-round, but we’re calling the official march madness commencement March 16th - the Winter Music Conference Opening Day.

March 16th offers events for everyone, from pool parties to all-night concerts, you will not want to waste one precious moment of these 24 blissful hours.

Ultra Fest, Ultra Parties

With great music comes great responsibility—to throw equally explicit fiestas! Miami’s Ultra Music Fest (March 23rd-25th) is the upper echelon of EDM musical events; commandeering the city in one awesome sweep of bass, illicit paraphernalia, and righteous tuneage! Headlined by the maestros of the scene—Tiesto, Skrillex, Avicii, Afrojack, Benny Benassi, and David Guetta (to name but a few)—Ultra Music fest is the one stop shop for musical nirvana.

FIRST COURSE
Te Quiero, Tequila!

Frankly, tequila and I don’t have the best relationship under the sun. Honestly, we don’t agree AT ALL! We’ve spent many nights together and have shared many special occasions; but in the end, as I spend the remaining rest of the night trying to remove it and the remains of whatever else I had to eat that night off my shoes and the next morning wondering what exactly happened, I’ve realized that there’s no real way to possibly salvage our failed relationship! Yet, there is one great relationship this year between tequila and a significant other: the 2011 WMC! As the Winter Music Conference approaches, or as we fondly refer to it, the WMC, Magave Tequila is one of the conference’s main sponsors. Hmmm…WMC and tequila, how appropriate for such an event during Spring Break in sunny South Florida! Sounds like the perfect couple.

Miami Music Festival

As the sweltering heat of summer and fall subsides, winter emerges once again, and with it, the inaugural Miami Music Festival. From December 10-12, the young and active will be able to venture out of their air-conditioned dwellings and take to the scenic, tree-lined streets of Brickell Avenue. No directions to the event will be needed; the blast of melodies pouring from amplifiers and echoes of enthusiastic crowds will guide you to Miami’s greatest offering of live entertainment this year.

The three-day extravaganza will host 600 performances on 25 stages. Four large tents will be assembled as the centerpiece and various clubs and restaurants will be rockin’ out for the duration of the festival. Participating watering holes include Transit Lounge, Tobacco Road, Waxy O’Connors and Hard Rock Café, each with multiple stages, and many other hot spots in the area will host performers. You may hear some familiar jams throughout the neighborhood, but it’s just as likely that you’ll come across original bands, exotic and underground, laying down progressions as crispy as a new pair of loafers. The festival represents our fusion of culture here in Miami and boasts world-touring rock, latin, jazz, hip-hop, indie and caribbean artists. The list of featured bands will be available soon at MiamiMusicFestival.org.
