Ten miles of darkness and 2000 cars separated us from the festival we had only dreamt about. As we stared forward, excited and anxious, there was a faint flicker towards the sky and then the familiar explosion of fireworks in the distance. A roar ripped through the desert from the cars around us. Indian chiefs and their topless girlfriends yelled and cheered out their windows, as packs of neon spattered fur boots ran by on foot. This was the scene I had heard so much about. The one that would save dance music events
Insomniac’s Electric Daisy Carnival has consistently been remarked as the premier Electronic Music festival in the country. With steady competition from Ultra Music Festival , and the multitude of other events that have developed in the past few years, claiming that title is quite a feat. Insomniac’s founder, Pasquale Rotella, has rose through the ranks of California promoters to a point of utmost success. He has absolutely earned his stripes, with the immense scale of his events and consequences this sometimes brings. The risk involved with such massive gatherings as these has made it necessary for Pasquale to impose a new standard for safety at these events, both at the gates and in the festival. In both appearance and functionality, EDC proved to be nothing less than the world-class event that was beckoned for.

This is pretty much the best thing we've seen all month. Jong-il was the center of many comedic skits, memes and parodies throughout his life, but this posthumous Tumblr is possibly the best of them all. Honoring Jong-il's lifelong dream of being hip and cool, in this blog he becomes the epitomy of cool: a DJ.
DJs, known for their globe-trotting, party rocking, groupie gathering lifestyles have become the new James Bond's of the current era. In this blogosphere masterpiece Jong-il finally makes it. Dropping bass next to DJ "Gods" such as David Guetta, Skrillex, Tiesto and Moby, Kim finally reaches the level of cool he was never able to achieve while he was alive.
In honor of the National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month, the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation is holding the Reeve Foundation’s Night For a Cure benefit. The event will take place Wednesday, September 7th at 7PM on the beautiful rooftop of the Mondrian SoHo.
The Reeve Foundation is a highly respected and successful nonprofit organization that has funded over $100 million in spinal-cord repair research and quality of life grants. All proceeds from the event will go directly to the foundation. Besides the great cause, the evening will be filled with hors d'oeuvres, cocktails, and a complimentary gift bag, courtesy of Clark's Botanicals. There will also be star-sightings, with actress Julianne Moore and W editor Stafano Tonchi in attendance.
That's right, Electric Zoo has added a whopping thirty additional bands to the schedule -as if Chromeo wasn't incentive enough! The event is set to be bigger than ever before. The festival has expanded to three days and will now feature four stages. The mainstage will include an expanded dancefloor so you'll have plenty of room to dance/perform musical tourettes. The festival will be held on Randall's Island in New York City on Friday, September 2 to Sunday, September 4. 3-Day intro priced passes are already sold out but tickets are still available.
Ultra Music Festival for the first time ever will take place over the span of three days this year. The first major U.S. music festival of 2011, Ultra is set to take place on March 25, 26, and 27 at Bicentennial Park in Miami. They have just released phase-two of their line-up, including Duran Duran, Armin Van Buuren, Underworld, Moby, and more.
Duran Duran will be appearing for the first time ever this year in support of their Mark Ronson-produced 13th studio album ALL YOU NEED IS NOW, which is out March 22. Also new is Armin Van Buuren’s A State Of Trance 500 area and the debuts of Erick Morillo and Sasha’s (V_rtek) live shows.
Hello, hello, hello! How was everyone’s weekend? Are we ready to dive, ears first, into a week laced with amazing songs courtesy of yours truly? I’m thinking that after accidentally taking last week off (::blows sorry, shameful kisses towards her wonderful editors Chet and Ian::), I’m more than ready to love you all up with some tunes that, hopefully, you’ll end up loving for the rest. of. your. lives. Commitmentphobics beware! THIS IS FOREVER.
Okay, but hold the phone. Before I get into anything serious, I feel it’s only necessary to plug the music of my husband-who’s-married-and-has-a-baby-by-another-woman. Don’t play dumb and scratch your heads. You all know I’m talking about Trent. I know I talk about him too much, but my diary is getting pretty full and I haven’t had a chance to run to Barnes & Noble to replenish my stock, so just bear with me, okay? YOU’RE ALL I HAVE.
The Electric Zoo Music Festival is plugging into Randall's Island for a two-day, 24-hour party with an expected crowd of over 25,000 throughout the weekend. The line-up includes some heavy-hitters such as the Chemical Brothers, Armin van Buuren, Moby, Pretty Lights, Bassnectar, Major Lazer, Fake Blood, and Steve Aoki.
This open-air music festival is buzzing more and more this year, and especially with each day leading up to the event. It will feature an unprecedented line-up of over 70+ artists across four stages, covering all genres: House, Techno, Trance, Electro, and Indie, including DJs. Tickets are still on sale, so get yours today!
Joonbug recently caught up with Kelli Scarr, a Brooklyn based singer/songwriter who released her debut album, “Piece,” today. From working with Moby to composing film scores, Kelli has an uncomparable musical backgorund. She is currently touring in support of her recent release and spoke with Joonbug about the inspiration behind the album and some of her favorite memories from the current tour.
Q: Tell us about your experiences with writing and Recording “Piece.”
KS: Well it all started because I had worked as a score composer for a friend’s film called “The Pacific and Eddy.” He and I have been good friends for several years and we always shared the same kind of musical taste. He actually turned me onto a lot of the music that I site as inspiration for the album. I had written and recorded “Baby Boom” over the course of about an hour one day and it really struck me, and for the first time made me feel like I should make a record.
America's first legal male prostitute, or "prostidude," has been revealed. While some media sources are providing him anonymity, referring to him only as his working name "Markus," I agree with Steve Freiss. This is not a privilege he deserves when the picture he has circulating through the media is the same one as his Facebook profile picture. His name is Patrick L. Norton and he has made history.
Patrick, 25, is an ex-marine college dropout who left a floundering career in porn to become America's first legal gigolo. Once the Shady Lady Ranch won the state and county approval they needed to begin hiring prostidudes, Patrick was hired and has since become a focal point for controversy. He's received much flack from his female counterparts for refusing to take on male clients, but that's the least of his problems. Patrick recently came under much fire for his interview in Details Magazine where he compared his role in the sex business to that of Rosa Parks in the civil rights movement.
