MTV VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS
In 2014, a Video Music Award ceremony should feel as out-of-place as a Pog competition, but the MTV VMAs have continued to be one of the most exciting award shows of the year, every year. Bolstered by unforgettable performances, outrageous outfits and a knack for noticing the rising stars before anyone else, we would never miss this award show, or we might have missed one of these ten unbelievable moments!
10. Eminem performed his hit "The Real Slim Shady" with about 100 clones at the 2000 VMA's. Will the real Slim Shady please stand up?
Although twerking will not be required, Skidmore College, located in Saratoga Springs, NY will be offering a summer sociology course focused on Miley Cyrus. The course is called, “The Sociology of Miley Cyrus: Race, Class, Gender and Media,” and will be taught by Visiting Assistant Professor of Sociology, Carolyn Chernoff.
After Cyrus’ performed at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards, Chernoff got the idea for the new course. “I was teaching a course called Youth Culture in and out of School, and the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards became the twerk heard ’round the world. I showed that video to my class, and the students had so much to say,” Chernoff stated to the Saratoga Springs newspaper The Saratogian.
With Robin Thicke's “Blurred Lines," having literally taken over the radio waves this summer, this new addition to the line up comes as no surprise. The song, which features ingenious producer/artist Pharrell, and Atlanta rapper T.I., dominated the charts with over 242.65 million listeners and remained at No.1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 for 7 weeks straight. The R&B superstar was heard saying that he has “some big surprises planned” for the show. Hopefully that's code for a guest appearancefrom Pharrell or T.I.
Russel Brand will return for another round of hosting the 2012 MTV Movie Awards. The British funnyman will bring his raunchy comedy back to television, we just hope his recent divorce from Katy Perry will not be the butt of any of his jokes. Brand is reportedly very excited to take the reins of host again, a position he had when he hosted the MTV Video Music Awards back in 2008 and 2009.
Expect to see stars like Emma Stone, Andrew Garfield, Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Mark Wahlberg at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards, at the Gibson Amphitheatre in Universal City, Calif., and broadcast live on MTV.
Tune in on June 3 to see Brand and all his madness.
It's pretty hard to imagine what the world was like before MTV - or MTV Music Television, as it was so lovingly called - came into our lives. They dropped the latter part last year 2010 (our 80s & 90s hearts still hurt with that). Nonetheless, even though there are several bones to pick, happy birthday, MTV!
Earlier today at midnight, the network re-aired its debut television broadcast, Moonman and all. Along with its premiere in August 1, 1981 came the very first music video shown in the channel: The Buggles - "Video Killed the Radio Star". From that point on, millions of viewers were in love. Nonstop flow of music videos and series of live concert performances charged the then-young television network, sparking the interest of bored teenagers and angst-ridden music lovers. You didn't care if the videos were a bit on the low-budget side, the music was incredible and (finally!) there was a place on television that gave younger generations a voice!
Whimsical ballerina's walk the runway and even dance their way up the music charts. From David Koma's strong but feminine ballerina-silhouetted dresses, to Valentino's sophisticated full-skirted cage dresses, to dancing around Kanye West at the MTV Video Music Awards, there is something so lovely about the essence of a ballerina. But when fashion visits the ballet, you can be sure to see a twist in the traditional thought of a ballerina dress. This spin of a classic trend can be yours in two easy steps: place your hair in a knot on the top of your head and invest in a delightful pair of ballerina flats. There is not a better way to soften your look than with a ballet flat, try Adi Designs quilted ballet flats at Target. Show mercy to your feet and stash away your stilettos for the night as you dance it up at Wall at the W Hotel in Miami.
Will it be another Kanye vs. Taylor year? Let’s hope not, at least for that poor girl’s sake.
This year at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, the biggest happenings will probably consist of the long awaited return from Eminem and how many wins Lady Gaga will take home thanks to her ‘little monsters.’
Eminem is the opening act for the highly anticipated event. Like most other award shows, a huge artist sets the stage for how the rest of the night will go. Maybe rapping either Not Afraid or a surprise revealing of Rihanna with Love the Way you Lie would do just the trick. Hitting the stage first should push any questions aside about where he is headed. Eminem has made his comeback and is not going anywhere.
Eminem is up for eight MTV Video Music Award nominations, making him the year's most nominated male artist.
But the rapper is upset at the timing of the VMA's saying:
"Apparently MTV doesn't care that I have two massive stadium shows on the other side of the country the day after the VMAs. F me, right?!?!," said Eminem. "I mean, I'll be there but don't expect me to be nice about it."
He is up for who's up for Best Male and Best Hip Hop Videos among other nominations.
Lady Gaga, 24, scored 13 MTV Video Music Award nominations, the most ever received by any artist in a single year. The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards will air live Sept. 12 at 9 p.m."I'm so honored for all the little monsters and self-professed freaks of the universe, to have more VMA nominations in a single year than any artist in MTV history," said Gaga. "Ironically, I'm even more proud it's an unlucky number: 13."
She goes on to say: "A long time ago the world told me and my little monsters we would never be heard, together we changed the rules. God put me on Earth for three reasons: To make loud music, gay videos and cause a damn raucous. Thank you, MTV!"
She is up for: best pop video, best dance music video, best female video and best choreography for "Bad Romance."
Keep it up Gaga!!! I'm sure your "little monsters" are sooo proud of you!
