MUSIC FESTIVAL
With all the recent hoopla surrounding Coachella 2012 (specifically, the digital resurrection of Tupac), one begins to ponder what other shenanigans are in store during festival season. Summertime truly is the season of festivals: beer & wine fests, food expos, but most importantly, music fests. There’s Bamboozle, Warped Tour, Lollapalooza, Bonnarooo, Electric Daisy, and a cornocoupia of other niftily named musical celebrations.
It’s been five months since world-famous DJ Bob Sinclar helped reopen Amnesia nightclub in Miami Beach. And in those five months, Amnesia has taken back its previous title as one of the hottest clubs in Miami, ranking alongside LIV, Arkadia and Mansion. Yes, with the help of co-owner Bob Sinclar, Amnesia has regained its heart, soul, and spirit to once again bring blasting music and luxury experiences to guests.
There is something undeniably unique about the total loss of inhibition that is fostered by the festival experience. It is a force that brings like-minded people together and continues to captivate millions. For a weekend festival-goers separate themselves from mainstream ideals and focus on art, music and culture.
When Burning Man founder Larry Harvey limited ticket sales for the 2012 event, thousands of veteran and artist attendees were left out, and rumors swirled that Burning Man would end this year. But fear not, the transformative festival experience is far from over. Lucidity Music Festival, located in Live Oak Camp in Santa Barbara, is filling the Burning Man niche and then some.
New Orleans will be getting its yearly dose of Halloween weekend madness with this year’s VOODOO Experience. An annual celebration of music, art, and the Big Easy nightlife, VOODOO 2011 will make its way down to Louisiana from Oct. 28-30.
The weekend’s biggest names will take to the stages of Le Ritual in New Orleans’ City Park. Famous for featuring a melting pot of the hottest artists from past and present, this year’s lineup includes Blink-182, Soundgarden, Snoop Dogg, and Fatboy Slim. House heads can make their way over the Le Plur, VOODOO’s space for electronic dance music where acts such as Claude VonStroke, Craig Richards, Tanner Ross, and Wolf+Lamb will keep crowds entranced throughout the night. Last but not least, Le Flambeau will be the place to go to pay tribute to the roots music that helped shape NOLA into the musically rich city it is today. Every night of the sensory-assaulting weekend will be capped off by Deja Voodoo is Verboten, a series of after-show parties that will feature prominent DJs spinning from midnight to 6 a.m. including Cassy, Danny Howells, Deniz Kurtel, Lee Burridge, Maya Jane Coles, Soul Clap, and Voices of Black.

Even though Conan was jumped, beaten up, and left for dead by NBC, he's still managing to make headlines. O'Brien announced on his twitter that he'll be, "heading to your town on a half-assed comedy & music tour. I repeat: It's half-assed." The ‘Legally Prohibited From Being Funny On Television Tour' was announced shortly after the twitter craze that Conan sparked by following a random person (Sarah Killen), who went from 3 followers (pre-Conan) to 27,900 followers and was given a bunch of free stuff.
One of the last stops on tour will be at this year's Bonnaroo festival in Manchester, Tennessee. Conan has never turned down the opportunity to rock out on his previous talk shows, so it seems like a perfect fit.
The tour will start April 12th in Eugene, Oregon, for tickets and details visit Team Coco.
This year's Coachella lineup is finally here and Jay-Z, Gorillaz, and Muse will be headlining the three night festival in Indio, California on April 16th, 17th, and 18th.
Other noteworthy artists that will be rocking your face off include: Thom Yorke of Radiohead, LCD Soundsystem, Phoenix, Vampire Weekend, Grizzly Bear, The Dead Weather, Spoon, The Whitest Boys Alive, and Beach House.
Tickets go on sale Friday, January 22 at 10:00 AM at all Ticketmaster locations and Coachella.com.
You don’t have to be an acid-fried, VW driving, hippie-burnout to appreciate a good jam-band, nor do you have to be a hoity-toity, pinky-flaring, culture snob to appreciate the subtle nuances of good improvisation. In fact, the presence of a loyal fan-base is far from evidence proving notable talent (need I cite the existence of multiple Paris Hilton fan-clubs?). But, there is one so-called “jam-band” that transcends the barriers between underground appeal and critical notoriety. Regularly treading their own successful path through the journey toward musical greatness is the Chicago-based improvisational conglomerate, Umphrey’s McGee.
