Enter the Wild with Summer's Raffia Trend

If you have ever owned a pair of woven wedges it's time to reach in the back of your closet and permanently toss them after reading this. Some of our favorite designers have taken the weaving technique to a whole new level in shoes, handbags, and accessories. Using Raffia, a fiber material found in palms throughout Madagascar, Africa and South America, designers have produced styles that are quickly making this material one of the hottest trends of the summer.
Wedges? That's so 2001.
Designers such as Michael Kors and JCREW, known for their seasonless casual chic collections and expertly designed resort wear, offer new alternatives this season to the iconic footwear. The wedge is quickly being replaced by the raffia heel often seen combined with leather and various metal accents.

Fashionista, Eco Conscious.
Kill two birds with one style this summer. Raffia is grown and mass produced in areas of South America and South Africa. While the process of producing most resources from the raffia palm are proven detrimental to the trees, the removal of the fiber (which becomes our coveted accessories) is done by hand from naturally fallen palm leaves. It's up-cycling at its best! From the palms to the runways, and into our favorite summer collections raffia makes a big, sustainable hit for summer.

This Milly tote is woven from sand raffia and is the perfect addition to your island-style look, even if you're toting it around a concrete jungle. The green textured leather trim adds the ideal pop of color and the bamboo handles and gold plated details keep this casual piece super chic. Pair it with a breezy maxi-dress and your favorite sunnies and you're ready for a summer day on or off the beach. Milly Leather-trimmed Raffia Tote, $350; available at net-a-porter.com
Woven raffia is not only right on trend but so comfortable in these t-strap sandals by Rachel Zoe. The adjustable buckle at the ankle is a very flattering style and the rubber-soled wooden platform and chunky heel bring an earthy, organic vibe to any look. Worn with the season's sky-high hemlines, your legs will quickly become the object of summertime affections. Rachel Zoe Natural Woven Raffia Anita Sandal, $177; available at neimanmarcus.com
This Burberry Prorsum cuff is a gorgeous way to subtly accessorize with the raffia trend. Black leather is woven with a sand raffia inlay for a two-toned effect that definitely pops. It has texture, style, and sweet engraved logo that only adds to the platinum-toned sheen. It's the simplest way to incorporate the trend into your style and versatile enough to slip on with any outfit. Burberry Prorsum Raffia Detailed Cuff, $284; available at mytheresa.com

Go Gatsby: Roaring '20s Looks for 2012

With the upcoming film adaptation of The Great Gatsby, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan, a 1920s fashion revival is well on its way. The decade was all about opulence, decadence, and over-the-top everything. And the clothing was no exception. The distinct flapper-girl look included short beaded dresses, bobbed haircuts, and embellished headpieces. Everything was elaborate and luxurious—and we love it!

Shine On: 5 Sparkly Summer + Fall Pieces You'll Love

It’s clear that sparkles are an ever-present staple to a stylish wardrobe; as we’ve seen them take over dresses, handbags, shoes, and even cosmetics. Although they usually make their biggest debut during winter, and especially New Years Eve, they are now starting to take on more realms than one. Slowly showing up in summer accessories and numerous styles, the glittery ensemble is a definite yes for summer. However, as we saw over Fashion Week in February, they are taking all 4 seasons now as they made a very fashionable entrance in fall collections from Lanvin, to Badgley Mischka, and Blumarine as well. Instead of buying the sparkly styles for each season, we here at Glam Damn It have taken it upon ourselves to make your lives easier and your wallets a little fuller. Whether you’re a sparkle fanatic, or like it in small doses, we’ve got the sparkly goods that are perfect pieces to wear during summer, and transition into fall!

Swimsuits to Die For (Almost)

Summer. Is. Here! It's pool party, beach and sun-bathing time. And you know what that means - swimsuits! Sure, some dread the 'ol swimsuit, especially when we're all still a little pasty white here on the East coast. (Self-tanner, anyone?) But the arrival of the swimsuit is synonymous with the arrival of warm weather and that's something to celebrate! We almost forgot what it felt like to bikini shop. We also didn't bother to look into what was 'in' for swimwear this season -mostly out of bitterness.

Trends this season include super string bikinis, hardware, cut-outs (again), animal prints and shiny/metallic styles. While reading through the list, one realizes these aren't really trends. Let's be honest, it's the same thing every season when it comes to swimwear. Regardless, there are some uber cute styles out there. So get the self-tanner ready, hit the treadmill and forego that Twinkie because, ladies, it is swimsuit season!

We Love Getting Wedgies

Summer is desperately trying to move forward. However, stubborn Winter doesn't seem to want to let go. The seasons are turning into the climate equivalent of a relationship gone awry. Talk about running hot and cold! Sheesh. We've had enough. Winter, it's over, move on and go play your games with Australia. That's where you belong.

Maybe if we all start doing more shopping for summer clothes, the warm weather will arrive. Does the Law of Attraction work that way? Something's gotta give. So today, lets daydream about wedges and disregard the gloom outside. There's so many great styles out right now -which is a complete tragedy considering there's flood alerts all over New York right now. Ok, we're done ranting, lets get to shopping.
