That land across the Hudson River is called New Jersey. It’s a state, like New York, and by way of a bridge and couple of tunnels, people commute over to New York City for work, dinner, friends, etc. Sometimes, at the same instance, the reverse occurs. The tide of thrill seekers shifts towards the Garden State for various destinations and attractions.
Whether you're a New Yorker or a Jersey 'res there are parties and events happening throughout Jersey that you don't want to miss, so buddy up and check out these dates for a ridiculous time.

It was revealed during last night's episode of 'American idol' that Jermaine Jones, the 25-year-old vocal instructor from Pine Hill, N.J., was disqualified for lying to producers of the show and failing to mention that he has outstanding arrest warrants back home in New Jersey.
Jones has had multiple run-ins with the law, but when asked prior to being in the top 24, Jones lied and said he hasn’t been in a fight since high school, though police records prove Jones' pants are certainly on fire!
With Zeds Dead headed to Starland Ballroom on the next stop of their Living Dead tour, we got the latest from the dynamic DJ duo. Read on!
Interview by Angela Samartano
Angela Samartano: How did you both originally start working with one another? How did you decide on the name Zeds Dead?
Hooks: We started a group called Mass Productions years ago with the goal of making instrumental albums, selling beats, and working with rappers. Years later we started getting into electronic stuff and decided to make a new alias which was Zeds Dead. It came from our initials Z and D (Zack and Dylan) and ya, the scene in Pulp Fiction.
AS: Which musicians or DJs have inspired your music over the years? Who would you say is your biggest influence of all?
Hooks: So many people have inspired me over the years. to list a few: DJ Shadow, Premier, Pete Rock, Rza, Madlib, Dre, Mugs, RJD2, Noisia, Pendulum, Skream, Justice.. I feel like my biggest influence may be the Beatles though..
AS: What has been your most memorable gig to date? Which city do you enjoy playing in most?
Hooks: Our show we just did at the congress theater in Chicago was incredible! So many people there and such great energy. I had some surreal moments on stage looking out at everybody.
AS: Beginning last month, Omar Linx and you started "The Living Dead Tour" throughout North America, bringing along Araab Muzik, XI, Memorecks, Mat the Alien and Knight Riders. How did you go about picking artists to join you on the tour? What are you most excited about throughout the tour?
Hooks: We tried to make the lineup very diverse with everybody bringing something unique to the table. All the artists we chose play different types of sets than us and have a unique sound. It's really cool to just be in an atmosphere full of artists that you respect. It gets the creative juices going.
"Welcome to the jungle, we've got fun and games!" Remember headbanging to that in your neighbor's living room when you were 7 years old? Well, maybe not, but either way, Guns N' Roses has announced a 6 stop mini tour that is set to rock NYC, Chicago, Silver Spring, and Atlantic City. This mini lineup is redemption for ignoring us last year during their massive 2011 tour that stopped everywhere but the east coast. NYC will get the greatest treat, taking 3 of the 6 shows at Webster Hall, Roseland Ballroom, and Terminal 5.
According to Rolling Stone, the band will be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio just before kicking off the tour. Drummer, Steven Adler also told the magazine, "I personally just want to finish what I started with those jack-offs. We started off something, let's end the career playing together, at least once. I'd love to do a whole tour of the world. I personally – and I know that Slash and Duff feel the same way – we owe it to the fans to do a tour around the world. We haven't performed for over 20 years and they've stuck by us and believe in us."
For all the praise we give music that challenges us and makes us think, it’s easy to forget about the genius of music that doesn’t. There’s the music that takes us to a simpler time in our lives and commands us to turn the volume up, surrendering ourselves to our gut feelings and car stereos. While there have been a litter of technically brilliant records hitting stores this year, Jersey-based pop-punk unit Man Overboard’s new self-titled effort is a masterpiece simply because it feels right.
Once the feedback clears and the band kicks into high gear, the frenetic double-time pace of album opener “Rare” should send nostalgic chills down the spine of any avid fan of the genre. Easily the fastest track in Man Overboard’s catalog, the song’s chorus hits like a sugar-coated batch of bricks and will probably get you mouthing along by its second go-around.

From the warm-up you’ll already feel the burn and by the end, your heart is racing to catch up with the glory you feel for finishing that last lap.
