Hair Extensions: Hot and Cold

We all want that beautiful flowing hair, a la Kim Kardashian, but many of us may have flat, wavy, curly, or frizzy, and even short or medium length hair. For those rocking the short cuts, sometimes the craving for long hair really digs in and starts to take over. Picturing and fantasizing about long hair is a tantalizing feeling so why not extensions, or should we say why extensions?

Most of you may be wondering what “Hot or Cold” may mean. The newest attraction and fad of hair pieces is hot and cold fusion hair extensions. Hot fusion hair extensions is the process of a heated bond being bonded to your natural hair root, so yes, you don’t have to worry about anyone seeing the extensions. The hair pieces aren’t typical “hair tracks”; they are simple individual pieces which are applied strand by strand. This is what it looks like plus the tool that’s used to bond the hair. The clamp like tool is the fusion applicator, it’s hot so as it melts it bonds. Same as the cold fusion. Well the cold fusion doesn’t melt it freezes. This leads into the question about whether it’s damaging or not.

GLAM DAMN IT Trend report.. Color blocking off the runway
Color Blocking

This season’s hottest trend is 'Color Blocking'. We've seen everyone, even our favorite celebrities, color blocking in some of their favorite outfits. Designers such as Gucci, Alexandre Herchcovitch and Miu Miu have created a great collection this season, and it’s all about colors! Check out Gucci’s new line and you will see a wide range of trends, patterns, and colors in the collection.

'Color blocking' consists of different colors mixed together to create a look. This trend is like art; experimenting with colors (green, red, yellow, blue and pink) and mixing them together to create a look. Katy Perry and Rihanna are famous for their color blocking outfits. As a matter of fact, Katy Perry can be seen on the cover of Elle Magazine working a Gucci outfit, and color blocking from head to toe with an aqua shirt, green blazer, and purple pants with a gold belt to match.

Bebe Zeva's Enviable Life: Part 1

Bebe Zeva is probably the coolest 17-year-old you’ll ever meet. A former “I Am Carles” model, she blogs from her not-so-small town of Las Vegas. In a world where thousands of teenage girls cry for attention on their own personal style blogs, the attention comes naturally to Bebe. Her style is truly unique, and she’s been featured in Nylon, Elle, and Seventeen. In January, a documentary, Bebe Zeva, about her life, premiered in Soho. In my exclusive interview with Bebe, she talks about her visit to NYC, comparisons to Tavi Gevinson, and why she doesn’t like to be called a “fashion” blogger.

The Sway by Belinda Pasqua

After debuting last September at the Green Shows during Eco Fashion Week, The Sway has become an environmentally–approved staple in our closets. Created by Sydney-born designer Belinda Pasqua, the bags featured in The Sway’s collection are made solely from leftover leather from a motorcycle accessories factory in Pakistan, as well as rewoven cotton which makes up the inner lining.

The collection consists of mostly clutches and shoulder bags, as well as a few other designs. Each bag is made unique by the textured exteriors, which make fringe and studs look cool again. (Not that they were ever not cool, of course!) We’re in love with Carter ($185, left) in Sky, a mini fringe, double zip chain purse.

Manhattan’s Finest (And Most Colorful!) Gem

In the season where Hippie styles (Flowers and Bell Bottoms) are undoubtedly returning, I couldn't help but be mesmerized by Andy Lifschutz's designs! The Brooklyn native “collaborates with nature”, and has cited his “summers spent by the sandstone cliffs and beaches of Santorini” as inspiration.

In his creations, he uses only domestic materials and reclaimed metals. Although his formula is simple- either rainbow, white quartz, or pyrite stones on bronze, silver, or yellow or rose gold- every piece is completely different! Andy Lifschutz creates custom rings (left) as well as his original collection, Nature Speaks.

Bond No 9's New York Oud

After creating scents that embody New York neighborhoods from Brooklyn to Central Park, and from Chinatown to Wall Street, Bond No. 9's latest creation pays homage to the exotic middle-eastern instrument, the Oud.

This east-meets-west fragrance is full of contradictions, and its adventurously creamy velvet texture is far more dynamic than a stuffy incense.

At its heart is a sumptuous rose bouquet which spins off into the all-important dry-down that defines this perfume: A dense and syrupy oud that joins forces with musky teakwood (another welcome new addition to Western perfumery) and earthy vetiver to create a lingering urban-forest accord.

Look for this scent in Bond No 9's signature superstar bottle in February 2011. New York Oud will be sold at Bond No. 9's four New York stores, Saks Fifth Avenue, and at bondno9.com, just in time for Valentine's Day.

Hot Like A Reb'l Fleur

We all know Rihanna as the crazy-trendy songstress who graces our iPods with her unique voice, and the red carpet with her unique style. And I mean unique in a good way. For the most part, that is. We all mourned the death of her incredibly cute relationship with fellow R&B singer Chris Brown, and have more recently learned of her breakup with Dodgers star Matt Kemp. But who really cares about love anyways?

The ever-present feeling of independence still lingers, as Rihanna prepares to launch the first perfume of her upcoming line of fragrances. The scent will be “fruity and floral”, and bottled in what was inspired by a stiletto heel. As a major shoe-lover, this elegantly styled bottle quickly caught my attention.
