NEW YORK NIGHTLIFE
Celebrating the new release of their latest album Wake Your Mind, Cosmic Gate has been touring North America for months bringing big room trance beats to the best clubs and venues throughout the country. Luckily for fans, the German trance duo made a pit stop on their tour to famous New York City venue, Cielo Club. Earlier this year, we caught up with Cosmic Gate where they didn't give many details on the new album but later introduced the world to their trance hit track, "The Theme" to fans at their Pacha NYC gig. The song has been getting a tremendous from both fans as well as DJs across the world including it in their sets.
Last Thursday, I had the chance to visit the Murray Hill hotspot TEQA for their Cinco de Mayo celebration. The upscale Mexican restaurant/tequileria stands out in what is usually a post-college frat boy bar scene. Hosting the celebratory event was Mario Lopez, along with his girlfriend Courtney Mazza (I guess Jesse Spano was home studying, still trying to top Zach's unheralded 1502 on the SATs).
Later on in the night, Real Housewives of New York star Kelly Bensimon celebrated her birthday with friends, including fellow housewife and newest cast addition Cindy Barshop. Kelly was graciously greeted with her favorite treat, three huge glass displays filled with jelly beans. TEQA also presented the reality TV star with a special birthday cake made by Brooklyn staple "Made in Heaven Cakes."
Jake Truen, NYC promoter extraordinaire, will be having his birthday bash at Chelsea Room on Tuesday, May 17. The guy you all know and love will be celebrating his 21st birthday in style as world class DJ Jesse Marco spins his crowd pleasing sets. The soiree will also include Joonbug Miami’s inauguration into the NYC summer party scene as the first of its New York City summer lineup. To make sure the New York cool gets some of our Miami heat; New York native and Miami resident DJ Ryan Skolnick will be accompanying the master of mixes, Marco. We can’t wait to bring in the summer with all of you and celebrate Jake Truen’s most important birthday yet! See you at the Chelsea Room, and stay tuned for our weekly New York summer party lineup.
Table reservations are strongly suggested. For reservations contact MIAMI@JOONBUG.COM
Hi Joonbuggers –
Yes yes, its been a while, I know, but what can you do? I've been running around all over NYC like a headless chicken, I just haven't had time to write to you guys about my escapades. Next week I will tell you all about the Royal Wedding antics that went down in NYC, but first I better catch you all up a bit.
When I first arrived here in New York (some 12 - 13 yrs ago), the Paramount Bar at the very swish boutique hotel The Paramount was THE place to be. Over time, like most fashionable bars and restaurants, the once Ian Schrager-owned hotspot gradually fell from grace. Until now, that is. Yes, The Paramount Bar is making a welcome comeback in Midtown.
We'd like to thank the Gods of Partycrasher for tipping us off on this opening. Tonight, enjoy some free drinks at the launch of this new event space and studio, 28 on 27. From 7-11 pack in this 2,500 sq foot space with other art and party lovers, and check out what is sure to be a great addition to Chelsea!
RSVP@28on27.com for entry!!
There may be a lot of controversy between the US and UK over the show SKINS making it's way on to MTV, but whether or not you like the show, you would have LOVED the party.
A secret location only revealed to RSVPers through signing up on the site, party kids from 16+ showed some skin for MTV at a warehouse party in Brooklyn this past Friday to celebrate the show's premiere.
Complete with all the essential rave supplies (IE rainbow facepaint and glow sticks), party goers caught performances by Rusko, Sleigh Bells, Klever, Drop The Line, and Kill The Noise, plus endless amounts of comp'd alcohol and dancing. The doors were tight as capacity was around 1000 and press obviously caught drift of the MTV sponsored event and snatched up most of the passes, but the party still raged on til late, late night with stars and it kids alike.
The fabulosity that is contained in Avenue (the club that resides on the corner of 17th and 10th Avenue, in the most accessibly glamour puss of neighborhood—the Meatpacking District) actually derives from its behavior as somewhat of a recluse among its fellow nightlife fixtures. It’s as flashy in appearances as any other of its kind: an overall darkened golden tone, dim lights beneath, and shiny, woody layered architecture, yet there is an inexplicable well-nigh volume of geeky chic. It’s a notion to be recognized after your third visit or so, but its geeky chic at its most stylized with lots of black and shiny ensembles and from a crowd that feels as if Avenue belongs to them.
They've already got Girls & Boys and Neon Trees, but there's something ELSE going on at Webster Hall tonight! In the studio (aka TRASH!), DJ Jess and Alex Malfunction get the party started with electro, disco, newave and pop, with TRASH!y go go dancers, $4 PBR and whiskey shots, $5 vodka drinks and 2 for 1s at 3am!
Tonight's party is hosted by Twig the Wonderkid, a special late night cabaret by Marlo Marquise and Misty Meaner for DJ Jess' birthday, and FINALLY DJ Loli Lux will be doing a special guest DJ set and premiering her new music video! If house isn't your speed, head downstairs to TRASH! and get your dance on with all of NYC's rock and ravers.
19+, doors at 10PM, $5 with the flyer from DJJESSNYC.COM, $10 without.
Come dance the night away TONIGHT at SoHo Grand for the Neon Trees afterparty, hosted by Grand Life. You may/may not have tickets to their SOLD OUT show at Webster Hall, but regardless, everyone loves a good after party!
Come hang with the gang of Neon Trees, with DJ sets by Tyler Glenn and David Pacho as all the cool kids get down at SoHo Grand. The party starts at 11pm and knowing them, it goes until tomorrow.
The perfect place for a winter night, Ten Bells in LES offers an intimate (yet somehow always crowded) space to sip wine and beer and get your hands on some tapas in a dimly lit atmosphere. I've heard this place is great for a date, but it's a bit too loud in my opinion, but the food and drinks are great, and it's a great change from the typical dinner setting.
With chalk boards lining both walls, they have no proper menus, but the serves and bartenders are happy to suggest something for you, and they've got quite a few vegetarian friendly tapas.
Their wine list includes mostly French wines, with a few Spanish and Italian in the mix, running about $7-$12 per glass. What really gets everyone in is the food, mostly bought local from markets in NYC, they've also got a special of $1 oysters EVERY day from 5pm-7pm, and from what I've heard, it's not a "you get what you pay for" deal, these are great oysters!
A great space for catching up with friends and grabbing a few drinks in the evening, Ten Bells is a great change of pace from the dives sprinkled throughout LES.
