NEW YORK PARTIES

FREQUENCY
Nosaj Thing, Mary Anne Hobbs, Toro Y Moi, Dirty South Joe at Music Hall of Williamsburg on December 4

The party was first supposed to be at Good Units, it moved to Williamsburg. This is the second edition of Dark Disco. Their main goal is to bring newborn talents with famous djs at the same party.

They won't only satisfy your ears but your eyes too. This is going to be one of those nights with great djs mixing with hudge screens behind them. I like this concept because it strangely doesn't disturb your focus on the music.

SWATCH This!!

As I approached the doors of the Gansevoort Park Ave for The Swatch's NewGents Collection launch party, I immediately notice a mob of people at the check-in. Realizing that the event is only a half hour in and taking a quick glance at the line, I think to myself that this will either be a snooze fest or a total sweatbox. But to my surprise it was neither. It was sexy and well-executed.

The event was hosted by Nikki Reed of Twilight. Now embarrassingly enough, I had no idea who this girl was, but was later informed that she was the mean vampire sister from the first film of the series. To be honest, she looked much better as a dead person. She had dark hair, which I'm sure earlier in the evening was styled, and then some strange dress that reminded me of an ice skater's outfit. And unless your name is Sasha Cohen, no grown woman should be wearing that.

Juliet Supper Club Shuts Down for One Week

Juliet Supper Club, one of the few reasons I still party in Chelsea, is closed down this week due to a smoking violation. The hotspot has to dish out $19,400 in fines due to it's unruly nicotine addicted patrons and has to present a detailed plan to city officials of how they will combat the problem in the future. I have personally witnessed bouncers escort smokers out of the club and know that they do not condone smoking in any form, even those ridiculous looking smoke-free electronic ones. So sorry Romeos, you will have to wait one week for your Juliet.

The Velvet Rope: Sal Imposimato

Salvatore Imposimato has transformed nightlife in New York, Miami and Los Angeles over the past 17 years of his career. Explaining that the 90's saw a cultural melding of club style and age mixing celebrity with the wannabe, Sal explains that the new era of nightlife is one of segregation and exclusion, generating a list of clubs where specific looks are the basis for entry or refusal at the velvet rope. As the gatekeeper for the nation's most exclusive nightclubs, Sal now serves as Regional Director of Nightlife and Promotions for all Morgans Hotel Group properties in New York City.

U.K. Megaclub To Open In Midtown

U.K. superclub, Sankeys, will be opening up a location in Midtown Manhattan. Rumor has it that the space will occupy a former garage and will be a massive event space equipped to handle 1,100 people. Set to open on 50th Street in the heart of Midtown, Sankeys will rival nearby Pacha for dance space and will include some of the industry's hottest technology. The new nightclub will be opening in 2011 and will bring a new generation to the New York club world.
