NINA RICCI
You’ve received your first (of many) holiday party invitation (s). Check. You’ve started looking through your closet for what to wear. Check. You want new outfits. Check. We’re here to help make that happen, for all 100% of you (!), with our holiday style guide of affordable vs. high-end looks that will make you a show-stopper at any party you attend this season.
Sleek & Sexy:
Pairing a sleek dress with a fun pair of sparkly heels has holiday party written all over it. We’re loving this purple satin dress from Dolce & Gabbana (left, $1,385) and these glitter platform pumps from Jimmy Choo (left, $745). Can’t quite swing the prices? Good news: find a similar look from H&M (dress, $40) and Wet Seal (heels, $30) for a fraction of the cost. Throw in some fun accessories and you’re ready to go!
Karlie Kloss has scored the cover of Teen Vogue's May 2010 issue; which wouldn't be a big deal if the publication casted models for solo covers frequently. The 17-year old sensation has had quite a year - besides racking up 170,000 airline miles for traveling - from being Jason Wu's 'lucky closer,' to being casted again for Christian Dior's Fall 2010 campaigns. The St. Louis native who remains as 'just Karlie' to her friends, remains humble and sweet as she chooses between her English teacher or her uncle to accompany her to shows; in the meantime she backs sweets - as she did for Teen Vogue's Amy Astley and Alexander Wang. But, remaining a supermodel isn't on Kloss' long-term goals. The model has plans to get a medical degree, hoping to visit third-world countries to help children.
In same color - skin, bag and background - fashion, Peter Copping and Nina Ricci release the labels first ad since the designers' arrival - starring Jessica Stam.
More appropriately - it's the first ad since Olivier Theyskens' departure - but, when will he return?
Thankfully, Theyskens will be having a book launch during Fashion Week on Thursday at Barney's. In our perfect world an exec from Ricci will just so happen to be there after a couple of cocktails and invite Theyskens back - all whilst texting Copping that he's fired. Oop!
By the way, less handbags and more apparel for these ads. Gosh!
Olivier Theyskens is that you?
The ex-Nina Ricci designer-turned-book writer-turned-model poses for Paris, LA Magazine, a magazine that is published twice a year.
How exclusive!
And, get this - the designer brought some of his own clothing to the shoot. What a model!
It's said that Theyskens posed topless as well, with his long mane made to cover his face. Rick Owens, Raf Simons and sheer tops were also used for the shoot photographed by Michael Henry.
Peter Copping, can you do that?
Granted, it's not Oliver Theyskens, but Peter Copping has a way of pulling the wool over our eyes - so we won't note the distinction...this time! Crushed bows and witty flowers aren't particularly fooling us, but are they fooling you? With a frail color palette, conveyed by minimalistic grays and ethereal floor-sweeping gowns to flatter, Copping invites everyone back into the world of Nina Ricci for Pre-Fall - but do we really want to go? Oops! Nevertheless, I wouldn't mind playing around in the two-toned gloves.
Metallic can be fun, and metallic can be oxidized. This season, some of the leading runway designers have plastered oxidized metallic over their coveted accessories. You know, just to spunk things up. When pairing these accessories with looks that don't require too much debate or attention, oxidized accessories have the privilege of being a statement piece - and we love statement pieces, don't we? Whether it be a clutch from Balenciaga or a sky-scraping platform from Gucci, the oxidized trend is also a conversational tool, intriguing aspiring designers everywhere to wonder, "How did they do that?" Of course, it's a secret unless you have the privilege of landing an internship at one of these ateliers. Meanwhile, we suggest taking apart your local Forever 21 knockoffs, and running with the idea.
MObama Shows Off - Amusingly, the First Lady became au fait with an overabundance of American Designers - distinctively, Jason Wu for the Inaugural Ball and the cover of Vogue. Work girlfriend!
Oliver vs. Nina Ricci - Following a season of hypothesized buzz, Nina Ricci and designer, Oliver Theyskens, divided. This left Theyskens out of a job and Nina Ricci to, well, Peter Dundas.
Fashion Week Packs Up - Mayor Bloomberg declared the ending of girls walking the Bryant Park pavements in their Nicolas Kirkwoods, with a fresh start beginning at Lincoln Center next fall. Boo!
From the roadway to the runway, biker chic is this season’s feistiest trend. Release your inner biker babe with Bruno Frisoni’s stacked platform heel and an embroidered Marc Jacobs handbag. Accessories speak volumes, so spice up that ordinary dress with a classic pair of Nina Ricci pumps, accompanied with a Bottega Veneta bag. And for you powerhouses out there, Nina Ricci’s dominatrix-style, lace-up heel goes great with Balenciaga’s crocodile wristlet. Whatever your metallic preference may be, always make sure it’s sexy, shiny, and stunning.
Lace is everything from sexy to romantic to vintage. It’s versatile, a great way to embrace your femininity, and this season we are seeing it on all kinds of accessories. In regards to the shoe department, Chanel is showing a white heel with patches of black lace for a sexy look. Giabattista Valli is showing a tall periwinkle heel with soft blue lace to create a romantic feel, and Nina Ricci’s peach peep toe heel with lace trim is a lovely vintage-looking shoe. Prada’s black leather and lace bag is strong and sassy, while Aurelie Bidermann’s vintage gold lace necklace and cuff are delicate and feminine. Lace is a perfect addition to your ensemble for any occasion and can take you from day to night. Just remember, a lace top doesn’t need a lace shoe and bag to match.
