OLIVER THEYSKENS
Karlie Kloss has scored the cover of Teen Vogue's May 2010 issue; which wouldn't be a big deal if the publication casted models for solo covers frequently. The 17-year old sensation has had quite a year - besides racking up 170,000 airline miles for traveling - from being Jason Wu's 'lucky closer,' to being casted again for Christian Dior's Fall 2010 campaigns. The St. Louis native who remains as 'just Karlie' to her friends, remains humble and sweet as she chooses between her English teacher or her uncle to accompany her to shows; in the meantime she backs sweets - as she did for Teen Vogue's Amy Astley and Alexander Wang. But, remaining a supermodel isn't on Kloss' long-term goals. The model has plans to get a medical degree, hoping to visit third-world countries to help children.
Everyone is patiently waiting for Alexander McQueen's last collection to save the god awful Paris Fashion Week. But, even better, everyone is eager to see who will replace the late designer. Speculations pointed to Gareth Pugh and Olivier Theyskens. As if Theyskens can really do what McQueen did - we just all feel bad for him because he's unemployed. It looked like both the industry and the Gucci Group owner, PPR, all felt that Pugh had the potential to pull it off.
Whether the Gucci Group wanted to continue Alexander McQueen's label or not - consumers and public figures discretly made the decision for them.
And when First Lady Michelle Obama dons a McQueen transparent neck-tied blouse to speak to students in England, we suppose that very much seals the deal.
The Gucci Group and PPR recently announced the company's efforts to continue the McQueen label and intentions to show the Fall 2010 bevy [that McQueen completed before his death] next month during Paris Fashion Week.
In same color - skin, bag and background - fashion, Peter Copping and Nina Ricci release the labels first ad since the designers' arrival - starring Jessica Stam.
More appropriately - it's the first ad since Olivier Theyskens' departure - but, when will he return?
Thankfully, Theyskens will be having a book launch during Fashion Week on Thursday at Barney's. In our perfect world an exec from Ricci will just so happen to be there after a couple of cocktails and invite Theyskens back - all whilst texting Copping that he's fired. Oop!
By the way, less handbags and more apparel for these ads. Gosh!
Olivier Theyskens is that you?
The ex-Nina Ricci designer-turned-book writer-turned-model poses for Paris, LA Magazine, a magazine that is published twice a year.
How exclusive!
And, get this - the designer brought some of his own clothing to the shoot. What a model!
It's said that Theyskens posed topless as well, with his long mane made to cover his face. Rick Owens, Raf Simons and sheer tops were also used for the shoot photographed by Michael Henry.
Peter Copping, can you do that?
Granted, it's not Oliver Theyskens, but Peter Copping has a way of pulling the wool over our eyes - so we won't note the distinction...this time! Crushed bows and witty flowers aren't particularly fooling us, but are they fooling you? With a frail color palette, conveyed by minimalistic grays and ethereal floor-sweeping gowns to flatter, Copping invites everyone back into the world of Nina Ricci for Pre-Fall - but do we really want to go? Oops! Nevertheless, I wouldn't mind playing around in the two-toned gloves.
MObama Shows Off - Amusingly, the First Lady became au fait with an overabundance of American Designers - distinctively, Jason Wu for the Inaugural Ball and the cover of Vogue. Work girlfriend!
Oliver vs. Nina Ricci - Following a season of hypothesized buzz, Nina Ricci and designer, Oliver Theyskens, divided. This left Theyskens out of a job and Nina Ricci to, well, Peter Dundas.
Fashion Week Packs Up - Mayor Bloomberg declared the ending of girls walking the Bryant Park pavements in their Nicolas Kirkwoods, with a fresh start beginning at Lincoln Center next fall. Boo!
