GLAM DAMN IT Beckham in H&M Body campaign
David Beckham Makes History with Elle UK

The soccer-star, underwear designer/model and all-around style icon can now add history-making cover model to his fashionable resume. Last week, Beckham made history when posing before the lens for his cover shoot for the British Elle July Issue in Los Angeles; marking the first time in which a male will appear solo for a women’s glossy magazine.

It comes as no surprise that the British magazine and star have partnered for the milestone in fashion magazine and editorial history. 2012 marks an exciting time for the nation as all eyes will be on the city of London as it hosts the 30th Summer Olympic Games. Beckham, the true embodiment of UK style stardom and athleticism, seems quite the natural choice for the groundbreaking issue.

Elle UK Editor-In-Chief Lorraine Candy released the statement adding, “ David Beckham is a national hero, so we saw an opportunity to shoot a celebratory cover to support a historical and patriotic year...He is an icon and ELLE is known for featuring icons on its cover. This is a first for us on the newsstand and I believe he is loved by men and women alike.”

The 36-year-old Beckham has had plenty of experience flexing his muscles, both on the soccer field and in front of cameras, appearing on the covers of Vanity Fair, GQ, Arena, various editions of Men's Health, Wall Street Journal Magazine, and even W magazine with wife Victoria, to name a few. The former Manchester United and LA Galaxy star has also been featured in Emporio Armani and recently H&M underwear campaigns, but this issue, set to appear on newsstands May 30th will mark the first time in which a male will appear solo for a women's magazine cover.

Miley Was Right, It's Definitely The Climb

If you are looking for an easy, relaxing work out, then pole dancing is not for you. As the pole dancing gods would have it, my inner stripper has already been exercised at previous classes. Not because it's my secret professional aspiration, but becase it's a great workout, a good time, and I appreciate it's assitance in the bedroom. So, assuming the motto, "you can never take too many pole dancing classes," I decided to head over to The Secret Pole Dance Studio when they held Apppreciation Night last Friday.

Pool Season Set to Make a Splash

Today, the Las Vegas pool wars officially kicked off with the opening of George Maloof's Palms Pool & Bungalows. His infamous Ditch Friday parties will start up again May 7.

The other Strip splash spots aren't prepared to let Maloof take all the glory. MGM Grand has some heavy artillery in their canon to fire back with. After the their pool, Wet Republic, opens on March 12, reality star and new mother Kendra Wilkinson will host the complex's first big event on March 27, before the official grand opening on April 17. Then a week later, another E! starlet and mother Kourtney Kardashian will hold her birthday party at the pool, hosted by sisters Kim and Khloe.

'We Are the World' Debuts Around The World To Mixed Reviews

Quincy Jones's remake of We Are the World debuted during the opening ceremony of the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver this past weekend. The video that was showed was slightly edited but the longer version is now available on iTunes.

The video, which was directed by Academy award winner Paul Haggis, begins with Jamie Foxx speaking a few words about Haiti and the original We Are the World. Foxx encourages support from everyone, "Do more than just watch, whatever you have, no matter how big or how small, it all counts."

I Love (Air)Rock 'N' Roll

I must admit, as weird as this sounds, I love a man who can play a good invisible instrument. When Mike serenaded Phoebe on Friends with his air piano in Central Perk, I swooned. Now, there's a whole competition here in Vegas just for these performers to showoff their craft and for people like me to drool over them.

This month marks the beginning of a set of monthly competitions to find the Hendrix of air guitar here in Las Vegas. This is all thanks to Resodence, who has created the Las Vegas Air Guitar Association, which is linked to the U.S. Air Guitar Championship (yes, that does exist).

Signature California Cocktails

Mai Tai

The legacy of Victor J. Bergeron a.k.a. Trader Vic is quite a tale. A small saloon owner-turned-restaurateur, his Oakland restaurant now has 25 locations worldwide. However, arguably his greatest claim to fame is the invention of the Mai Tai. The original recipe, invented at the original Trader Vic’s in the 1940s, included 17-year-old rum, orange Curacao, rock candy syrup, orgeat syrup (a barley-almond blend), with lime juice and mint. Although the recipe has become more simplified for cocktailers today, it still retains the Polynesian essence that was so important to Vic.

Damon Albarn: Top Contender for Olympic Art Director

Damon Albarn, frontman for Blur and Gorillaz, is on the top of the list for artistic director of the 2012 Olympics in London, the Independent reports. This would make Albarn responsible for all non-competition visuals including the opening ceremonies, which have become extraordinarily extravagant in the past few Olympic seasons. Also in high contention for the position is Stephen Daldry, the Oscar-nominated director of Billy Elliott.

August - UGGGHHH!

August

Week In Review

My apologies for the lack of entries over the last 2 weeks. But, I’m back. The summer has flown by. I have had plenty of opportunity to go away but the timing has been all wrong. So I’ve roamed the city and headed out to the Hamptons a few times. So what’s been going on? Well a little bit of everything. Where do I start?

Fashion Week is fast approaching and everyone’s starting to come back so we’re opening Upstairs at Cipriani early. The date is this Thursday, August 28th, play throughout the weekend with Karaoke this Sunday and get crazy all of next week. I’ve been going to everyone else’s places but they seem to just be a stop on the way home. I don’t know why but it's true. BIASED BUT TRUE…

War/ Nightlife Craziness/ The Olympics - Incredible!

Politics

I have to start with politics. I woke up a couple days ago and repeated my same routine, turn on the computer then the TV. Tune to the news, head to the kitchen to fill the tea pot, pausing to decide between tea and coffee (coffee), then back to the computer. What the hell do I read on Yahoo? Russia invades Georgia??? It was like reading something from the Cold War Era.

I squinted, frowned and thought maybe the heading had something to do with the Olympics. How is it possible that after seeing the grievous errors in approach, mentality and miscalculation of world opinion that the Bush administration made in the lead up and prosecution of the “Iraq War”, could the Russian government attack and invade Georgia?
