Cheap Thrills: Your Guide to this Weekend's Open Bars

Let’s say you have a limited amount of money, or perhaps no money at all, but you’ve already gotten it in your head that you’d like to have a few drinks. Glancing over at the jar of loose change, you refuse, as you should, to settle for a 40 oz. from the bodega on the corner. So you start to scroll through your contacts for a fully stocked fridge, err, friend, but wait! Here in New York City, at any moment, on any night of the week, exists an extraordinary phenomenon known as an "open bar," and it’s only a matter of knowing when and where.

Get Covered With an Open Bar Tonight

With Mars Volta producing new material as sporadically as their musical flavor, Brooklyn's own Mean Little Blanket is looking to fill your prescription for progressive post punk. Equal parts flying ear worms and dance floor head trips, MLB is a tight little combo ready to splay its tentacles across the New York scene and beyond.

They'll be picking up the pieces tonight at the Trash Bar in Brooklyn, making the most of the open bar that comes wrapped up with the cover charge from 8 to 9. Come wet your whistle before the band blows you dry at 9.

You're Invited to Bruce's 1st Birthday!

And who is Bruce, you ask? Only the beloved and long-awaited offspring of Bessie, the mascot of The Sunburnt Cow. The MooLifeGroup is throwing Bruce's first birthday at The Sunburnt Calf on the Upper West Side this Friday, April 1st. When you RSVP and bring $10 cash to the door, it's all-you-can-eat and all-you-can-drink for two hours. That's right - I said 10 bucks. We all know the downtown spot has long been offering the $20 two-hour open bar, and we're ecstatic they're bringing it (and an even better deal) to the UWS. The hours are only from 6:30-8:30 or 8:30-10:30, but that's more than enough time to get you well-fed and well-oiled for a great Friday night. Don't forget to tip your bartenders - we don't want this to be a one-time thing!

FIRST COURSE
Say Yes To Open Bar

Call it a bucket list for your New Years Eve night success. Sexy outfit, great date, amazing venue, and open bar. Right now you may not be thinking about open bar but you should. It is just as important as the midnight kiss.

Venues and parties differ on the open bar policy so know the hours and the shelf liquor that’s free. Also have a plan to get to the bar. With any open bar it is tuff to get the bartender’s attention. Cleave works if you’re a girl and the bartender is a man. Tip well and that bartender will remember you the rest of the night. While most like open bar because you can save or not spend any money, tipping beats not drinking at all during the night.
