Never stale, New York’s atmosphere is always changing. Clubs, restaurants, and venues are evolving, revolving and dissolving at such a fast pace, sometimes you need a little held pinning down what’s actually going on. Here to help, browse this list of newly opened and soon to be opened hot spots within the Five Burroughs.

Look out for the return of Pink Elephant in the West Village this May. Owners David Sarner and Robert Montwaird have shared that the new digs will be a much quieter experience offering high-end cocktails and live music. Formerly located in Chelsea, and famous for laser shows and bottle service, the previous incarnation closed in 2009 after the landlord filed for bankruptcy. The change in atmosphere isn’t the only news, Sarner and Montwaid are opening locations in Dubai and Los Vegas in the near future. For those interesting in being apart of the rebirth, bottle servers are now being hired.
Beekman Beer Garden Beach Club is officially re-opening its proverbial doors tomorrow, April 14th. The beach club, right next to South Street Seaport, will be open Fri-Sun for the rest of the month, and beginning May 4th, it will thankfully be open seven days a week from 12pm-3am. This outdoor summer hub will be launching a new menu with additional beers on tap, as well as a slew of fun events.
Beekman has two 25 and 60 foot bars, fire pits, flat screen TVs, foosball, and ping pong tables to ensure your never-ending amusement. Beekman Beach will now have its own private entrance and bar for exclusive events and on May 27th (Memorial Day weekend), the venue will launch its first Bikini Brunch Beach Party, which will take place every Sunday for the summer. Get decked out in your best swimwear and enjoy music from NYC's top DJs.
Psst.. we hear that EMM Group will be opening 'Catch' in Miami. After the success of the New York version, Eugene Remm and Mark Birnbaum will bring the seafood-club hybrid to the east coast's hottest getaway spot, South Beach. Miami has become an increasingly popular spot for New Yorker's to escape to over the past few years, making it the latest city nightlife impresarios wish to expand upon.
Late last year rumors swirled that EMM Group would be opening Abe & Arthur's at the James Royal Palm Hotel in 2012, however they reconsidered and decided to open Catch, citing "a lack of seafood-specific restaurant options in Miami, and a desire expressed by its residents for more social, shareable, city-style dining" as the reason.
Late in 2011, the original Ray's Pizza shuttered its doors forever. And while their demise may not have resulted in the total lack of a decent NYC slice, it did leave a neighborhood (ok, a two block radius) mourning the loss of a great spot.
This week, Nolita residents and irritating foot-trafficing tourists can once again satisfy their pie dreams at Prince Street Pizza. The new restaurant is located in the same space as the former Ray's, but is offering a decidedly modern menu. Prince Street specializes in square pizzas (cloying called "Soho Squares"), which can be ordered by the slice or by the pie. The shop also serves up a variety of "Munchables" which, despite their after-school-special style name, are consistently excellent. Try the Stuffed Proscuitto Balls (Ricotta, Mozzarella and Prosciutto) or the Crazy Calabrese (Broccoli Rabe and Garlic in an Egg Roll Wrapper with Sweet and Sour Sauce- trust us, it works.)
As if we weren't already feeling enough like heffers this holiday season, here's some hog news to keep us all porking out into the new year:
Baconery, the bacon-based baked goods company that launched in September, is looking to lay down roots in Manhattan this winter. The business currently hawks its wears online only but, according to Baconery owner Wesley Klein, there will hopefully be a brick and mortar locale in 3 to 6 months. Klein told Gothamist last week that they were, "still looking at neighborhoods that make sense."
Alessandro (Alex) Stratta, the famed chef most regularly recognized for his success in Las Vegas and for having been a contestant on Top Chef Masters, announced via the New York Times this morning that he will open his first New York City restaurant. Stratta will be the executive chef and a co-owner at Bigoli, set to open next week.
The West Village spot will feature a menu of "serious but fairly simple Italian food." Reported specifics so far include a selection of cured meats with wild arugula and Parmesan cheese in lemon dressing and 24-hour duck leg confit. Stratta is also bringing Joe Swan on as his chef de cuisine. Swan previously worked for Stratta at Alex in the Wynn Las Vegas.

The Grey Dog Cafe: If the Torrisi line has got you down, head next door to the third location of this perfectly laid back, homey cafe. The new spot is larger than its counterparts but serves up the same satisfying meals (and is populated by the ever-present Soho crowd of gorgeous "I roll out of bed like this" patrons). 244 Mulberry Street. 212.966.1060.
If anything could tear us away from the Barney’s sale today, it would be the opening of Zac Posen’s first retail store. Located at 875 Washington Street in the heart of the fashionable Meatpacking district, the store is Z Spoke, Posen’s contemporary womenswear line. Until today the line was sold exclusively at Saks. "It's time to give a retail experience to the Z Spoke woman that houses a spectrum of items that complete a dream wardrobe. Z Spoke represents the nine-to-five part of the day - it has to feel practical and cool,” says Posen regarding the line. Ready-to-wear, accessories, and other in-store exclusives like candles, Posen print scarves, and Illesteva sunglasses are all ready to go home with us. The Z Spoke line features sleek silhouettes, wool separates, and our favorite, ostrich bags and wallets. Prices range from $78-$500. We’ll take it!
