PRESIDENT OBAMA
According to the NY Post, Mayor Bloomberg is planning his own mini-prohibition. In an effort to discourage underage and excess drinking, he plans to cut down the number of establishments allowed to sell liquor in NYC. Grants provided by President Obama's healthcare law will fund the effort. Apparently too many underage New Yorker's boozing it up along with increased accidents and ER visits have inspired the new law. From 2003-2009, alcohol related emergency room visits doubled; while 1 in 10 hospitializations were due to boozing. Additionally, 1 in 6 adults reported being lushes. Alcohol is also involed in 28% of fatalies in automobile accidents and nearly half of homicides in NYC.
This could be bad news for the nightlife industry. According to the documents the main crackdown will be on the sheer number retail outlets and bars allowed liquor licenses (which is A LOT).
“Reduce the exposure to alcohol products and bar advertising and promotion in retail and general (trains, buses, etc.) settings (stores, restaurants, etc”, the proposal document says.
“The city’s goals for the Partnership for a Healthier New York are in line with our ongoing strategies of promoting healthy eating and physical activity and discouraging tobacco, excessive alcohol use and consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages,” a spokeswoman said. “Specific proposals, however, are still in the planning phase.”
Last night - Wednesday, October 5th, the modern world lost one of its most beloved technological geniuses, Steve Jobs. The co-founder for the billion dollar Apple empire lost his battle with pancreatic cancer just over a month after resigning as the CEO. He was 56 and is survived by his wife, Laurene, their three kids, and a fourth child from a previous relationship.
President Barack Obama shares his deepest condolences in honor of Jobs:
"Michelle and I are saddened to learn of the passing of Steve Jobs. Steve was among the greatest of American innovators - brave enough to think differently, bold enough to believe he could change the world, and talented enough to do it.
What could all of this be about?!

A few days ago, Matt Damon, 41, expressed his disappointment in Obama to Piers Morgan. Now it's the Great Britain's Independent turn to hear what the actor has to say about the President. In an interview, he goes into greater details about what he considers missed opportunities for Obama.
"I think he's rolled over to Wall Street completely. The economy has huge problems. We still have all these banks that are too big to fail. They're bigger and making more money than ever. Unemployment at 10 percent? It's terrible."
He also talks about one of Obama's more controversial compromises with conservatives.

On Thursday afternoon, the United Nations Climate Change Conference was privy to an unexpected (and in some circles, unwelcome) guest as Radiohead’s Thom Yorke mysteriously acquired a press pass to attend the final two days of the weeklong conference. As representatives of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) were unfairly thrown out, Yorke managed to sit-in on the remaining discussions, including one conducted by members of the U.S. government, alongside fellow environmentalist Tony Juniper.
In an off the record portion of a recent CNBC interview, the President was caught on tape calling Kanye a jackass for his recent behavior at the VMAs. Obama sites that Taylor Swift is a nice young girl who deserves the award she got; and Kanye, who does he think he is? Here is the (off-record) transcript of the interaction with ABC News reporter Terry Moran. Moran apparently tweeted about the incident almost immediately, but deleted it shortly after.
Well, well, well, P.E.T.A. (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) you just love to stir up controversy. And you're constantly reminding us why we don't like you. What I don't understand is that P.E.T.A. gets angry and protests when President Obama swats a fly but they think it's okay to make fun of someone? If you have not seen the ad, it shows a woman whose "blubber" is spilling over the sides of her swimsuit bottom and features the tagline "Save the Whales. Lose the Blubber: Go Vegetarian. PETA." As if to say, "We know it's not OK to make fun of an obese woman to her face. But it's OK if it's behind her back, right?" It is not funny to make fun of people's weight issues, and to assert you know why it maybe occurring is wrong-headed and judgmental. I am now going to go eat a juicy double bacon chesse burger!
Etta James gave a Seattle audience a piece of her mind regarding Beyonce’s performance at President Obama’s inauguration ceremony on January 20th. Beyonce, who portrays James in the upcoming ‘Cadillac Records,’ has apparently been singing James’ song “At Last” every chance she gets, but it was this performance that really did it. Check out this rant…. "You guys know your president, right? You know the one with the big ears? Wait a minute, he ain't my president, he might be yours, he ain't my president. You know that woman he had singing for him, singing my song — she's gonna get her ass whipped. The great Beyoncé… But I can't stand Beyoncé. She has no business up there, singing up there on a big ol' president day… singing my song that I've been singing forever."
Wow. That was rough. It’s okay though, I hear Beyonce has a bodyguard or something. Above is a picture of Beyonce as Etta James… just to drive the point home.
