Grammy nominee Janelle Monáe will team up with designer Rebecca Minkoff for her NY Fashion Week showcase at Lincoln Center this Friday, September 6, performing live from the runway as part of American Express Unstaged.
Designed to foster collaborations between artists of different mediums, the program emphasizes the importance of digital media and will facilitate live online streaming of the event. Audiences can tune in at 3pm on September 6th but should also look out for ongoing behind-the scenes Instagram updates from Minkoff and Monáe throughout the week.
This gorgeous deconstructed strapless dress by designer Tracy Reese has that fresh, elegant feeling with an up to the minute edge. Perfect for a party, a spring al fresco dinner, or special event this frock will be sure to get you noticed. The cut of the dress is also flattering on numerous body shapes (something Reese is a master of). We can't talk about elegant looks without featuring the bow-belt. Instantly add a pop of color to any look with the addition of a flirty and figure-enhancing belt. This style from Forever 21 adds that classic touch (and the price is right). The perfect stiletto is a must. What's that saying—invest in quality footwear and purse? This pair of peep-toes at Neiman Marcus by Christian Louboutin are a special occasion shoe that's interesting, sexy and demure all in one! These will literally be in your closet forever (or until you wear out the signature red-bottom). No look is complete without a bag to throw all of your social musts-haves—iPhone, lip gloss, business cards, blotting tissues, breath mints, and whatever else. Pastels serve as neutrals this season and literally go with everything in your wardrobe. We are really loving this fab cross-body bag from Rebecca Minkoff at Piperlime (wearing a cross-body bag over a dress is really chic this season, or you can simply wear it on your shoulder). A little bling goes a long way. Add some sparkle and shine with a glittering necklace. How about something with a positive message such as this necklace from In Plush. It seems everything is pulled together with a swipe of your favorite gloss. Instantly brighten up your face and your mood with this fab gloss from L'Oreal. Add an alluring sheen to your lips—making them kissable (no lady in the big city should be without a prince). With argan oil and omega-3 this lip gloss not only looks great, but helps your lips stay über soft!

We had a fantastic time at the Bloggers Brunch yesterday presented by Socialyte.co at the beautiful Caravan Stylist Studio. The exclusive event, which only invited about 50 guests (yes, we felt special!) was held in a sprawling loft in midtown. Bloggers upon bloggers mingled with industry folk while tweeting about anything and everything within their camera’s zooming grasp. Yes, as bloggers, we are all about the tweeting, however, this was a whole new level of social media. Why, you ask? Because every product that a blogger tweeted about at the event, they got to take home with them! Yes, so unbelievable, but so true! And no, these products were not 2 oz. samples of soaps and fragrances, they were handbags by Rebecca Minkoff, shoes by Chinese Laundry, Ulta makeup products, hangover juices, you name it! Suzanna (aka Zanna) co-founder of GreenHouseofFashion.com, even stated at one point “this is so effortless, I almost feel gluttonous by just having to tweet to get free products when I would probably be doing it anyway!”
Neon is making a victory lap and a successful comeback this spring in all sorts of ways. It made an appearance a few seasons ago, and of course we all remember its big hit in the electric eighties, but is it possible that this somewhat tacky look has come to our spring 2012 making a classy third appearance?
We here at Joonbug have found a few neon favs for this spring that could definitely make the once-was cheap trend, turn into a fashion forward chic look.
Check out our favorite bright pieces that made the Not Your Typical Neon list in the slideshow!
Buying a nice bag can be tricky. There are those purses that can cost over $3000 and will break your bank account, and then there are totes that ring in at under $100 and will, well, just break period. So what’s a good budget when buying a nice bag? Our thinking is that you want to get something nice that will last (translation: over $200), but that doesn’t make your rent check bounce (yes, that’s happened). So, we’re thinking of spending no more than a grand. Good news: we scoured our fave designers' collections and found MANY amazing bags in this price range. See our picks below!

1. Ultra Feminine
While the ditzy girly-girl type may get on our nerves from time to time, her style is all the rage right now. Over-dramatized ruffles, bows, and ribbons, demure colors, and baby doll silhouettes are at the top of our wish lists. Carven's tulip-skirt jumpers, round-collared blouses, and bow adorned heels are the perfect definition of girly-girl style. You'll find plenty of frilly layers and soft colors among the designs of Alice + Olivia. Herve Leger and Valentino are also designers to check out if you're in the market to fem-up your wardrobe.
The votes are in; we have chosen Raphael Young, Anastasia Radevich, Victoria Spruce, Josh Wayman of Kandee Shoes, and Rebecca Minkoff as the new up and coming footwear designers to point your eyes (or feet) towards. They have already made such a strong impression in the fashion world thus far that we can't even fathom what their next steps will be!
"The Next Big Thing": Raphael Young
Possessing a design talent and creative eye comparable to those of major footwear design giants such as Nicholas Kirkwood, Diego Dolcini, Pierre Hardy, Alexandre Birman, Jeffery Campbell, Alexander McQueen, Alaia & Kamilla Skoogvard, there is no doubt in our mind that Raphael Young is on his way to becoming the next Superstar of high-end footwear. The French-Korean designer began honing his artisan skills early in life, creating his first pair of shoes at the tender age of 14. Growing up, Young dabbled in engineering and physics, which is evident in his designs. Balance, architecture, and history are also prominent factors that comprise his design aesthetic. While working as an assistant for Yves Saint Laurent, Young studied and perfected the craft of making each design prototype from stitch to finish, a tedious process that most footwear designers do not have the patience or skill to execute fully. In 2007, Young launched his eponymous label which has had 3 successful seasons thus far. Young's designs have previously been marketed solely in Europe, but he is now moving forward and presenting his line on a global scale.
