RELAPSE
Did Marshall Mathers play us all for fools? On April 13th Eminem posted what seemed to be the tweet heard round the world-"There is no Relapse 2"-and the media took off running. It seemed that every music blog (including yours truly), gossip column and pop-culture media forum was abuzz with the death of the hip hop star's second comeback album. But how quickly did we jump the gun on that one?
At around 4PM yesterday, Eminem knocked us in the back of the head with another tweet, "Recovery" and a link to his website explaining that the production of Relapse 2 has actually been shifted to a new album altogether, Recovery, set to be released in late June. "I had originally planned for Relapse 2 to come out last year," remarked Eminem. "But as I kept recording and working with new producers, the idea of a sequel to Relapse started to make less and less sense to me, and I wanted to make a completely new album. The music on Recovery came out very different from Relapse, and I think it deserves its own title."

Besides recently taking jabs at Mariah Carey and all of the other antics he’s usually up to, Eminem seems like a really nice guy. Kind of. Alongside late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel, the rapper has chosen to take around 200 laid off auto workers from his home town of Detroit to Jimmy Kimmel Live in L.A. where he will be promoting his upcoming album “Relapse”. The two also wanted to make light of how the recession has been affecting Detroit- and of course, show the folks a smashing good time.
This can’t even be correctly titled a hip-hop beef. It’s more like inviting cattle to a slaughter unfortunately. Yes, the cattle is Nick Cannon. Ok- so Eminem dissed Mariah Carey in the track, Bagpipes from Baghdad, off his Relapse LP. He is Eminem, Mr. Slim Shady; this is what he does. Growing up in Brooklyn, I learned at an early age that dudes will try you over your girlfriend in a heartbeat. But if you want to live to continue to see your girl, sometimes you just have to suck up your pride and keep it moving.
Eminem’s comeback is official. He serenaded us with the pop-star parody as usual and now it’s time for the darker, shadier side of Slim Shady. Any Eminem fan knows he has multiple personalities on his records. The playful, vulgar teasing on one hand and the lyrical nightmare of evil on the other. The other hand, in this case, is “3am”.
Rumors circulated last weak that the video for “3am” had leaked. Then the actual song had leaked. Now everything is out and fans can catch a glimpse of the Eminem that is reminiscent from “Stan”. The single has been released and the download is available digitally. The video starts with Em waking up in the woods, bloody and scarred. As he goes into the song, he recounts his escape from a mental asylum and his murder of a nurse there. Keeping the “Relapse” theme alive, he is shown stuffing handfuls of prescription pills down his throat.
How great can this week get? First Blink 182 and now Eminem? I can only assume of course that Eminem is envious of all the press Blink 182’s reunion announcement has received and therefore decided to make a comeback of his own. Therefore, I have decided to reward his endeavors with a post of his very own.
Eminem’s comeback single “Crack A Bottle” has broken the record for opening week download sales in the US with 418,000 copies sold in its first week. The song is currently at Number One in the Billboard Hot 100. Last month, as you may recall, 50 Cent confirmed that Eminem’s new album Relapse was “two weeks” away from completion. Fiddy also lends a verse to “Crack” and recently told MTV that the song will show up on his album Before I Self Destruct before it is released on Relapse. [nme]
Is anyone else worried about this fight?
The release date for Eminem's forthcoming new album, 'Relapse', is set to be confirmed within "weeks", says the rap star’s label mate, 50 Cent. For those of you surprised that 50 would actually sit down for an article about someone other than himself, stay tuned.
His [Eminem] new album is almost actually done," he said. "I went to Detroit to mix my song 'I Get It In' (set for 50 Cent’s forthcoming album 'Before I Self-Destruct') with Dr. Dre – Eminem is currently mixing his album right now.”
When asked if he appears prominently on the album, the rapper added, "Of course! I will be all over the record, you kidding me? You think I won't take advantage of the opportunity for everybody to look at me and listen to me. Yes I will!" [nme]
Yep, that sounds more like it.
