RESTAURANT OPENING
There are only two retail spaces left in Grand Central Terminal, and for the first time in 25 years, they are up for grabs. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority announced this week that they are making two sizable new spots available for restaurants.
One space is roughly 12,000 square-feet and located on the west side of Vanderbilt Hall. The marble floors used to serve as the waiting room and has been used for special events.
The other section that will be available for lease is the area above the Grand Central Market. The 4,700 square-foot space that is currently being used for storage will become a place where diners can enjoy a meal and a view from the balcony looking over the market.
Sometimes, all you really need is a change of scenery and some good food. Luckily for South Floridians, you won’t need to tread far for this one.
Recently opened at 1111 Lincoln Road, Juvia is raising the bar (or the elevator) for sophisticated eaters in Miami. The restaurant is located on the penthouse level of the visually stunning building which can be accessed on the corner of Lincoln Road and Lennox Avenue. There, private elevators transport guests to the top where you’ll encounter an alluring oasis made to entice your every sense from the Amazon Rainforest-inspired vertical garden to the unobstructed views of the Miami skyline and Biscayne Bay.
Eric Ripert and Maguy LeCoze reopened Le Bernadin on September 9th with a striking new design. Chef Ripert still centers his menu on inventive fish-centered dishes on his new Lounge menu such as gravlax and lobster cappuccino (yum). Enjoy your dinner in relaxation mode as Brooklyn artist Ran Ortner's art piece, Deep Water, takes center stage as the dining room's only piece of art. Enjoy the new Le Bernardin lounge, which will play host to the venue's signature cocktails. The only remaining fixture is the iconic wooden ceiling. Try out their delicious dinner Monday-Saturday and their lunch Monday-Friday. Bon apetite!
If you’ve ever been to Dos Caminos in New York or Las Vegas or have heard of their high quality modern Mexican food, you’ll be glad to hear of their new location opening today, January 27th, at the Sheraton Beach Hotel in Fort Lauderdale. This will be the sixth location for Dos Caminos of this fast-growing restaurant company and we’re excited to welcome them to the Sunshine State!
Dos Caminos Fort Lauderdale will accommodate guests inside and outside – for everyday dining and special events. With its oceanfront setting and the industrial elements, that maintain all Dos Caminos locations, this new restaurant will fit right in with South Florida’s exciting atmosphere and beach-loving environment. Another great feature of Dos Caminos Fort Lauderdale will be its feature of a collection of historical and modern, black and white images by photographer Murray Hall.
There is a new restaurant opening in Penn Quarter where you can get your taste of Little Italy without going to New York. Carmine’s a NYC's legendary family style Italian restaurant is opening a new location in Washington D.C. Tuesday Aug. 3rd. And remember to wear something a little roomy since the food served at Carmine’s is served family style and made for sharing with 4-6 people.
Vegas hit the curb for lunch this Saturday for gourmet burgers, hot dogs, and tacos. Saturday, July 24th from 6:00pm to 10:00pm Curbside Café will be outside of Hellboys 702 Tattoo shop at the South East corner of Rainbow and Sahara freeway. For Curbside's grand opening they will be giving away the first 50 burgers, plus a free Hellboys 702 t-shirt and a $50 certificate for your Tattoo at Hellboys 702. Upon first hearing the name of this April 9th opener, you might mistake it for some sort of intestinal disorder, or perhaps the latest member to join the Jersey Shore cast. Neither is the case, thankfully, for this decadent dining addition to Manhattan. The Quattro Gastronomia Italiana, an authentic Northern-Italian restaurant, is one of the many nightlife options that the Trump Soho Hotel is set to deliver this spring to the downtown area.

This past Tuesday night, John Kelly's The Parlour opened its doors to a very exclusive crowd of media affiliates for a sneak-peek at the restaurant that's soon to be blessing the Midtown-West area with its Irish-style gastro-pub. My editor and I were two of the lucky ones whose eyes got to grace this sophisticated space before its public opening (Wednesday night), gingerly sipping drinks from the open bar whilst enjoying music and tasty samplers from the menu. Oh! And we saw Robert Verdi. What did you do Tuesday night? It's not a contest...but we win.

We are in the midst of a food revolution, and it's taking place at the street level. What began with carts offering simple options like pretzels, hot dogs, and canned sodas has evolved into gourmet trucks with their own twitter accounts. With its distinct pale yellow, almost creamy looking truck exterior, the Van Leeuwen Artisan Ice Cream truck has changed the ice cream game. Those seeking a subtly saccharine snack now have a gourmet option to the ubiquitous Mr. Softee. However, the best part of this continual evolution is Van Leeuwen's newest location that includes four walls, not wheels. Located in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, Van Leeuwen's first store location allows those seeking the finest, freshest ingredients frozen into the creamiest concoctions to never have to guess (or consult twitter) on where to go to find it.
