RICK OWENS
Heeled Boots
For those of you unfamiliar with the genius of Rick Owens, allow us to introduce you. This American born but Paris based designer is worshiped by the fashion elite for his innovative, edgy, slightly Goth aesthetic. For Spring 2012, Rick introduced his 100mm Mohawk Wedge Boot for men, his first heeled boot for men. (For those of you too lazy to Google it, 100mm translate to just under 4 inches.) Although visionary, Rick Owens was not the first to introduce the heeled boot trend. Jeffrey Campbell, the beloved footwear brand, had its Areas men’s boot with its 2.5-inch heel. Other designers who have embraced the heeled boot trend are Gareth Pugh and Alain Quilici.

Jetting uptown to Bloomingdale's during lunch hour yesterday was a delightful treat; as John Hardy showcased his Spring 2010 & Chinta collections. Attendees swarmed to the jewelry counters to gaze at prominently-sized sterling silver, jade stones and interlocking chain links. Prices ranged from $500 to $2000; although I was able to sort out a divine rope bracelet for $295. The one-day only event was preempted by a luncheon hosted by Hardy; positioned himself behind the counter, engraving shoppers jewelry with customizations.
At Wayne's Fall 2010 presentation, we may not have had the best seating in the one row area, but it was by far the best presentation of Fashion Week yet!
Wayne described the Fall 2010 bevy as the warrior aesthetic for a nomadic lifestyle - fabulous, right?
We felt so much throughout the presentation, getting chills and bringing us back to Rick Owens, awkward asymmetry, and fox tails attached to belts.
There were camouflage full-suit ensembles, tailored to fit each model's frail and fragile frame, and a glimpse of how much horizontal stripes could complement the Wayne label.
Now only if we can find a clear reason behind Wayne's use of genuine and faux furs.

Olivier Theyskens is that you?
The ex-Nina Ricci designer-turned-book writer-turned-model poses for Paris, LA Magazine, a magazine that is published twice a year.
How exclusive!
And, get this - the designer brought some of his own clothing to the shoot. What a model!
It's said that Theyskens posed topless as well, with his long mane made to cover his face. Rick Owens, Raf Simons and sheer tops were also used for the shoot photographed by Michael Henry.
Peter Copping, can you do that?
Rick Owens described his mens Fall 2010 bevy as something his father would be able to wear.
Oh really? In that case, his father must love things that tie at the waist, snakeskin boots, a splash of denim, and of course an abundance of leather.
It seems that the trend for a plethora of designers this Fall 2010 is leaning towards sophistication, with a bit of the young edge that trademarked their names from the beginning.
To each it's own, of course, but average-looking seperates and fur trims are not the Rick Owens that I know.
While many in the fashion industry seem to be cutting back, there are still just as many looking to expand. Women’s designers Matthew Williamson, Carlos Miele and Roland Mouret have all recently announced plans to add menswear collections, and the latest names to the list are Gareth Pugh and Rick Owens.
While Owens has showed menswear mixed in with his womenswear, this will be his first menswear only show. Pugh has also featured men on some of his runways, but the idea of his statement-making designs being dedicated solely to menswear takes the category to a whole new level.
Look for Owens’ menswear collection on the runway in Paris this spring. Pugh expects to launch his collection with FW09.
