Rodarte Gets Gritty with Their Latest Shoe Collection

Rodarte
’s avant-garde designs never leave us bored. From their crazy cut-outs to their carved wooden heels, this design house knows how to keep its followers on the edge of their seats. So it's no surprise that the Mulleavy sisters have whipped up something interesting for our eyes yet again with their latest shoe collection filled with sand, literally!

The collection was inspired by Australian landscapes. Their view of the dry, desert countryside from the 'land down under' has transformed beautifully into high-end footwear. The collection will consist of boots, booties, and chunky heels all wrapped in a mixture of earthy tones with the actual heels containing molded resin with layers of colored sand. This, they explained to Marie Claire, was their way of referencing “…the amazing layers of earth in the landscape.”

GLAM DAMN IT Ruffian S/S 2012
From Runway To Real Way: 5 Must-Try Beauty Trends

A new season is here and it’s time for all of us to pull out our summer make up and update our look for the season. The S/S runways were full of beauty trends that are fun, fresh, and totally doable! From bold brows to bright colorful lips, you are sure to find a look that suits your personal style. Below we provide you with our favorite styles; please, do try these at home!

Colorful Lips

From wine-colored stained pouts at Prabal Gurung to bright reds at Jason Wu, statement lips are everywhere this season. Get behind this trend by picking a color that works with your skin tone. As we saw on the runways, the color itself doesn't really matter. It could be blue, purple, orange, or pink, just pick a tone you like, with a matte finish, and you’ll get a look that’s perfect for you and right on trend!

More is More: Hair Accessories to Spruce Up Your Style

Everything is getting bigger and better this spring! From the chunky statement necklaces, to the bold bright colors. Another trend to add to your style this upcoming season is big (in size and number) hair accessories. They were all over the spring/summer 2012 runways and they are slowly starting to transcend onto the pavement, and we're loving it! We accessorize our jewelry, bags, and shoes with our ensembles, so why not make our hair look trendy too?

Try the more is more approach with this look. If you’re adding a bobby pin to your bun, add 5 more, and make them noticeable. If you're pulling your hair back, stick in some bright colored barrettes or beaded (yes, that’s right, beaded) hair ties.

GLAM DAMN IT Rodarte Fall '12 Collection
Emphasis On the Art: Rodarte Fall '12

Rodarte’s Fall ’12 runway show had a very creative flare to it with styles and themes that came from all different directions, yet still seemed to be the perfect puzzle pieces to fit into the collection as a whole.

The shape of the clothing mixed with the bob hair-dos and blushed cheeks created a delicate baby doll appearance to the models. The large-and-in-charge wedges and heels made the perfect girly statement to counterpart the multiple power-charged aspects of the collection. Our prediction is that the strong shoulders are going to be a big trend. The Mulleavy’s certainly showed this style everywhere, in the batwing bouquet sleeves, as well as the stiff panels atop the blazers’ shoulders.

LA Fashion Week Diary: Days 1-3

Paris is high fashion, New York is big market, and Milan is skilled craftsmanship - but for a long time Los Angeles Fashion Week has struggled to find its identity. In the past, having no set venue or sponsors, have left many respected designers hesitant to even show their collections in this city. There are plenty of clothing manufacturers in L.A., so what can this "one-industry" city provide the fashion world with that's fresh, different and necessary? With avant garde designers such as Rodarte and Band of Outsiders calling L.A. their hometown, and a new venue produced by Bubble Fish Media at the Vibiana downtown, it seems as if after years of questions, Los Angeles Fashion Week may have finally started to find some answers.

High/ Low, High/ Low, It's Off To Shop We Go!

The phenomenon of mixing insanely expensive designer pieces with label-less bargain duds began when Sharon Stone appeared on the red carpet of the 1996 Oscars wearing a Valentino skirt paired with a plain black t-shirt from the Gap. It's been fifteen years (105 in fashion years) since the birth of the High/Low craze, yet it is still going strong. Quickly evolving from a trend to a necessity, High/Low fashion has come to mean that mixing a $3 tank top with a $300 skirt is more than acceptable. In fact, it's highly encouraged. Celebs and commoners alike are balancing their wardrobes with high-end designer pieces and cheap-o trendy clothes and accessories.

Street Style: Amber

Amber: 21 years old

We spotted Amber wearing this comfortable chic look and had to get the scoop on her outfit. Amber is wearing a light jean Urban Outfitters button up, paired with a bright yellow sheer laced Rodarte for Target dress. She accessorizes this look with a Urban Outfitters fedora, and vintage lace up booties. We love the way she looks so chic yet comfortable at the same time!
