Best Fashion Moments of 2009

MObama Shows Off - Amusingly, the First Lady became au fait with an overabundance of American Designers - distinctively, Jason Wu for the Inaugural Ball and the cover of Vogue. Work girlfriend!

Oliver vs. Nina Ricci - Following a season of hypothesized buzz, Nina Ricci and designer, Oliver Theyskens, divided. This left Theyskens out of a job and Nina Ricci to, well, Peter Dundas.

Fashion Week Packs Up - Mayor Bloomberg declared the ending of girls walking the Bryant Park pavements in their Nicolas Kirkwoods, with a fresh start beginning at Lincoln Center next fall. Boo!

New Designers Invade NY Fashion Week...

The trend of top designers being absent from the runways of New York Fashion Week has left the door open for a slew of new talent to show for the first time this September. Some big names on the off-site showing roster are Marchesa, Betsey Johnson and Carmen Marc Valvo, who all share the common goal of saving money. It seems they, as well as many other designers, are not alone in the desire to save, as Anna Wintour fights to salvage high-end fashion. According to New York Magazine, the Vogue Editor-in-Chief felt that the downsizing of designers showing at fashion week has been a positive development because “people that shouldn’t be doing it” are better off with a “low-key presentation.” Despite the harsh criticism of Anna Wintour, the show must go on. Expect to see inspirational new designer collections such as Erin Wasson, whose RVCA collection resembles a Rags to Riches tale. The official schedule is set to release this Friday and the veil of mystery surrounding these unknown new designers will finally be lifted!
