New York City is a place where people strive and continue on every day! More than 500 of New York’s most influential business and philanthropic community members joined The Doe Fund at Cipriani 42nd Street to celebrate the return to self-sufficiency by thousands of formerly homeless New Yorkers.
The Doe Fund serves 1,000 individuals each day by providing paid work, career development opportunities, social services, and classroom education. After twelve months, clients (or “trainees”) graduate from the Ready, Willing & Able program with homes of their own, jobs in the private sector, paying their child support and fully reintegrated into our communities. The event marked a renewed sense of urgency and a call to action for New Yorkers to support real opportunities for those who need them most.
A great trick is right after the shower, to apply a really great body cream. We love the Extended Moisture Cream because you can get up to 48 hours of relief for dry, tight skin with ProVitamin B5. Vitamin packed?! Yes, please.
A New York Times article by Eric Wilson entitled New York Sets Work Rules for Young Models was released yesterday. The piece detailed how Governor Cuomo passed legislation on Monday that redefined models under the age of 18 as "child performers". This reclassifcation sets harsh limits on how the models can work, making them a much less desirable option for the next New York Fashion Week. According to the article, besides receiving a lot of support from state senators, super models Coco Rocha, Arlenis Sosa, and Sara Ziff have supported this law.
This season it's all about that boho chic look. The wonderful aspect to this sense of style is that you can look ultra-stylish and it doesn't have to break the bank. Joonbug checked in with celebrity stylist Derek Warburton who shows us, along with model Marisa Juliette, how to score Boho Chic on a budget! This allows you left over money to meet up with your besties for a fab day or night out on the town! Here's what he had to say about scoring high-style on a budget: An easy way to score that bohemian vibe is with a fabulous headpiece. We love this flower halo by That Madonna Girl. Add in some bronzed makeup and liquid liner -- Art Liner by Lancome is incredible and really opens the eyes. This floral dress by Old Navy is a steal --I think it's $10 right now! Add in a fab faux fur vest, such as this one by H&M and you are good to go! One dress 30 different ways is a stylists dream. Hipknoties is also so versatile and fits every body shape. This color is so seasonal and really warms up the look. Add a cool pair of aviators and a fun bag and you're all set to wow. If it gets chilly at night, put on a chic cardigan. Statement necklace is a fab find from H&M. Coated denim is a style staple this season. I love this pair by Old Navy. You're getting that high-style look for an amazing price. Add on a statement scarf and tie in the look with the perfect boot! I'm feeling CAT Footwear and their fab selection of boots. You can dress these up or dress them down. Many of my clients complain about wearing high-heels. This way you get a lot of style and you still have a comfortable heel! Lace and see through pieces are another trend you will see a lot of this fall. If you're going to wear a sheer top, you better have the right bra! Go to a trusted brand like Maidenform. When I have to style big celebrity clients for the red carpet, I know that I'm going to find what I need from them. This black comfort Devotion bra is a wardrobe must that I keep in my stylist kit! Accent your eye, then go more subtle with the lip. I always tell my clients to use a liquid eyeliner if they aren't fully trained in doing makeup. The liquid liners like one of my favorites from Lancome -- Art Liner is an easy and stylish way to update your look into the holidays. You can do a thin line across your entire upper lid/eye, or accent the outer edges of your upper lid for more of a wow factor.
In all it's glory, New York City, amongst an abundance of other things is known worldwide for its, eclectic people, urban appeal, rustic city charm, and of course fashion. Everything from high fashion chic to hobo hipster flare is a mere train away, located in the heart of the city's five boroughs. One of the most fashion prominent and up and coming boroughs is none other than the town of Brooklyn. It bares such big names as rapper/entrepreneur Jay Z, actress Lena Dunham, and Academy Award winner Woody Allen. Brooklyn has long been a melting pot of talent and artistry, and is quickly becoming "the" hot spot for trendy fashionistas who take pleasure in indulging in rich urban culture, art, and young New York flavor. In an attempt to capture a piece it's essence, Glamdamnit hooked up with Brooklyn native and independent EDM recording artist Manny Love at The End NYC in Greenpoint Brooklyn, where he's been recording his latest project. Shot on The End's rooftop by Mitch Zachary and dressed in casual athletic wear and pieces from New York City's very own Harlem based fashion brand, Gypsy Sport, Manny gives us a snapshot look at how one brooklynite spends his "Brooklyn Nights". As the temperatures start to drop in the city, and the leaves start to change color, it reminds us that it's time to update our wardrobes! Many women and men of the city are pressed for time and need to look our best with ease. Joonbug recently checked in with The Shops at Riverside to see the latest trends from some of our favorite stores. There's something to be said about hitting the mall with your besties, picking up fabulous new wardrobe pieces, and hitting a fun restaurant afterwards. Many of the looks are styles you can wear to work and beyond! We love that! Now, let's get to the fashion! Viva la fall!
With Thom Yorke doing custom soundtracks for Rag & Bone, Florence Welch and Janelle Monae appearing on the runways at Chanel and Rebecca Minkoff respectively, and mainstream musicians becoming increasingly bold with their looks, New York Fashion Week is an exciting time for the music and fashion worlds.
