Diamonds Really Are A Girl's Best Friend

When Marilyn Monroe danced across movie screens and proclaimed “Diamonds are a girl’s best friend!”, it was one of the most iconic moments in cinema history. The song became a highlight not only for Marilyn’s career, but for many of the jeweler’s mentioned. They garnered mainstream attention --and with good reason. Finally, women had a counterpart to the oft-repeated “dog is man’s best friend." Who needs to play fetch when you could play dress up?

Laying claim to one of the largest diamonds ever discovered, the Tiffany Yellow Diamond, the company set the bar high for excellence in jewelry design early on. At 287.42 carats in the rough, 128.54 carats with 90 facets after it was cut, the massive rock has only been known to have been worn twice since its 1878 discovery in South Africa (one of those women was, of course, Audrey Hepburn while promoting Breakfast at Tiffany’s).

Jimmy Choo's Sweet 15

Although Jimmy Choo has been designing and making shoes for over three decades now, the iconic brand, co-founded with British Vogue accessories editor Tamara Mellon, wasn't officially started until 1996. In honor of the its past 15 years, Jimmy Choo Ltd held an exhibition featuring 15 of its best selling shoe designs in a pop-up store inside Paris retailer Le Bon Marché.

The exhibit, which opened Wednesday, has the vintage shoe designs on display safely in glass cases. In addition to the 15 commemorated designs, customers can also view a capsule collection dubbed "Icons" that was inspired by the vintage pieces. "Icons" includes famous designs like the Sex and the City "Feather" shoe that Carrie famously lost in an early episode, and ‘Fleur’, a pair of striped heels Tamara Mellon wore when she met the queen. Customers will also be able to flip through electronic copies of the commemorative book "Jimmy Choo XV," that tells the companies history through the featured 15 on iPads.

The pop-up exhibit will be available for viewing until December 31st this year.

Sex and the City Prequel Rumors Canned

Rumors have been swirling that a Sex and the City prequel might be in the works.

But now, Michael Patrick King, who directed the four ladies in the two S&TC blockbusters, and who was an executive producer on the HBO series, has put the rumors to rest.

He told reporters during the Television Critics Association press tour, “My Carrie started at 33, and I took her to 43. I didn’t even want to know who her parents were. The idea of going back in time…and making her less evolved — the idea of going backward — is not something I’m interested in doing.”
